I'll say it again, Terry O'Quinn is an awesome actor.
SOME SPOILINESS
Man o man, Sayid! I loved the way it was played it, too. Sayid just seems to fully accept what he has become -- like "okay, fine, i'm an agent of evil. might as well play the role." And you know Sayid's crossed that line when even Ben backs away from him in pure fear.
As for Kate, she's just going along for now, clearly no clue what's going on. FLocke seemed nonplussed to see her, kind of like "Hmm, didn't expect her. Let's see how this plays out."
Meanwhile, i'm wondering where Jin and Sawyer were during the whole Temple hoo-ha ...
And Lapidus appears and speaks the most sensible line of the episode, as always. Go Lapidus!
Next week's episode looks to be Ben-centric, so we'll probably also be seeing the ATL Ben, which should be awesome.
SPOILER FOR THE PROMOS. DON"T LOOK AT ALL Did the promos say that the man who has brought so much death to the island, will finally face his demise? So does that mean that Ben will die. I can't imagine they would put that in a promo as this season's promos have been pretty devoid of all new footage. But what could that mean. END SPOILERS
Oh and Shpydar, that quote in your sig, was that from the LOSTCATZ on Ign? If so I saw that too.

"Lost showrunners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have made it clear that they want nothing to do with any spin-offs or continuations, but ABC executives seem to be prepared to move on without them"
They need to blow up the island in the final episode and everybody on it, the immense exotic-matter explosion will cause a rupture in the space/time continuum which will destroy all adjacent universes. Destroyed, all of it!
@Paupack: Yep, that's from the LOSTcats piece. Some of them were hilarious!
I'm doubting Ben's gonna die next ep, especially since that's exactly what they implied. Can't imagine they'd give it away like that -- heh, unless it's the ATL Ben who gets killed somehow! I think Ben wil die before the end of the series though, or perhaps in the finale, making some sort of redeeming self-sacrifice -- or trying to do so and failing. It would be a bit of a cliche story-wise, but i think it would fit his character well, especially after killing Jacob. It would also follow after his little eulogy for Locke and then willingly running back into the temple to try and get Sayid. Ben's always looking out for Ben, but he seems to be understanding the error of his ways, and he still has a huge role to play.
I should think so too! As much as I love Ben, the lil rat is responsible for providing Smokey with a vessel of worth, and then killing Jacob. He's not gonna squirm his way outta this mess, surely!
I need to watch those "Henry Gale" episodes again. Such greatness.
Oh hey, where the hell was Richard this past episode? Last we saw him, he was heading back to the temple, and it seems more than enough time passed for him to get back there. Hmm, possibly connected to Sawyer and Jin's whereabouts? Arrgh, damn you LOST! You make me want the weekend to be over so Tuesday is closer! That ain't right. Just like Hank Hill's boy.
Great episode. I've always enjoyed Ben's character (and particularly Michael Emerson's portrayal) a lot.
SIGNIFICANT SPOILERYNESS, BEWARE, 'CHU! (AND OTHER NON-US PEOPLES!)
And we got a lot of answers in this one! Ilana confirmed the "candidate" stuff, we get some confirmation on Richard's origins, and meanwhile we get Hurley asking if Richard's a cyborg. Awesome! Meanwhile Jack has finally made that final leap of faith and Miles profits from the hated Niki and Paolo.
And let me just say -- that scene between Ben and Illana towards the end was AMAZING. I genuinely felt for Ben, with his "He's the only one who'll have me", and his genuine shock at Ilana's response ... wow. That whole scene (and their arc in the episode in general) really played out like a Biblical parable of a sinner who feels he doesn't deserve redemption. And an excellent contrast with the previous episode where Sayid was in the same sort of position -- a crossroads of whether to resign himself to the darkness, or to finally turn from it.
I felt the cliff hanger cheapened the emotion of the episode. This was my favorite episode this season. I know there weren't any huge OMG moments but the emotion throughout was powerful. Not only the amazing Ilana/Ben scene shypdar mention but Ben's redemption with Alex. When Ben's father mentioned they left the island in the ATL it made me wonder how/why they left. Did the bomb really sink it? WTF happened?
Agreed on the little cliffhanger part; quite a juxtaposition in tone, especially after the emotional heaviness of the earlier scenes including the reunion on the beach. I started amusingly humming the "Jaws" theme.
The info in the convo with Roger & Ben was defintiely interesting. Wonder if they left because the Island was sinking (from the bomb), but seems like that wasn't the case since Roger implied that they could have stayed with DI. There was also the implication that Ben was never shot as a child in the ATL, since one would think that Roger wouldn't be so keen on the "maybe we shoulda stayed" idea if his boy had been shot and nearly died while they were there -- of course this gets us into more timey-wimey stuff, as it would further imply no Sayid (and other Losties) on the Island in the ATL-past, etc etc. But i suppose it all comes back to the central question of when/how was the ATL created/begun, and what relation it has to the "original" timeline.
Oh, gotta point out i also (of course) loved the little scene with Ben and Lapidus, with Ben's "Would your life really have been different? The Island got you anyway" line. Very cool.
I agree with you guys, a top episode that really emoted, but was kind ruined by an awesome cliffhanger. Off and on island was cool, so many mirrors and refractions in the ATL, and it was...
oh ****!!! spoilers!!!
...good to see the 'army of light?' assembling on the beach. And Jack, running his little experiment, that was fantastic. Whenever Jack's doing something crazy I like to kid myself and say 'yup, that's what I'd do'.
Awesome episode last night guys. Once again the writers have found a way to get me interested in both on island stuff as well as off island stuff.
SPOILERS Im not going to talk about the episode yet, but the previews for next week's episode are saying it's a Richard flashback episode. Now thats something to get excited about. It seems we'll be seeing a lot more of the Black Rock than we thought, Machu. SPOILERS BE ENDING

To be honest I wasn't all that impressed with this week. The island parts just seemed like set up for future episodes. I did let out a sigh of relief to see Kate not die. Locke is definitely interested in her for some reason. She must have a serious part to play. All the meat this week was in the ATL. It was awesome seeing Sawyer's life flip flopped. Miles was spectacular too.
As Paupack said though next week is the episode we have really been waiting for! Richards past reveiled! I want to see it now!!
SPOILERYNESS (do we really need to say that -- or other amusing variations thereon -- anymore?)
This was a "slower" episode, but still quite good. The ATL stuff was great, especially seeing Miles (again, i love the "lesser" characters) and ESPECIALLY Charlotte (much like Charlie Brown, i totally have a thing for redheads). It's very cool to see that in the ATL, the characters really are the same people (i mean that personality-trait wise, not literally), just on different paths or making "better" decisions (eg, Ben deciding to help Alex rather than himself).
And i love that one of Widmore's people is played by Frederick Koehler, who played Chip on "Kate and Allie" (i don't know why i watched that show as a kid, but i did, and loved it. Probably because of Jane Curtin, late of SNL at the time). More normal folks may recognize him as the stockboy in those Fiber One cereal commercials (among other commercial work).
Yes, i am strange. =)
EDIT: Oh yeah, the next week's preview! RICHARD EPISODE! Seriously awesome. Funny how pretty much every clip and quote in the preview was from prior episodes. Totally cannot wait for that ep.
I should have been in here sooner, watched it last night. I really really enjoyed it! Just like I've really really enjoyed all of S6 so far, and will really really enjoy the last remaining episodes. It's so bitter/sweet for me right now. D: During that hour and a half where I'm watching last weeks before this, I'm in heaven. When it ends, the pain begins. Part of me wants to just rush to the end to find out what happens, the other part of me wants to stop watching it now, so I can save it, forever. Neither is gonna happen though.
OBLIGATORY SPOILER WARNING
Sawyer episodes tend to be good, and this was great, felt like it was building up to something epic. The ATL was so cheesy, but made me almost wish that this was the spin-off show. Sawyer and Miles, two kick-ass wise-mouthed cops. On island.... a pile of dead bodies!!! wtf!

Exactly how i feel. I simultaneously want to know everything, yet not see the episodes because each ep brings me closer to there being no more. I often get the same way about any great serial that ends, like the last run of Battlestar, or while watching the final Tenant as The Doctor specials.
I would totally watch a Miles and Sawyer cop show. How awesome would that be!
Next week, Richard ... just a matter of time before Desmond reappears, i hope! Or has he already? What was locked up in the sub? More C4 like on the Kahana (doubt it), or is it some one !?
Hey, so does the show air without commercials during the episode over there? I wasn't sure what you guys do when airing US shows. That's the only thing i hate about watching Who on the US commercial networks is how the mid-show commercial breaks are smashed in. Thankfully PBS had recently been running the Eccleston episodes, and they only do the between-episode promos and commercials
