Should probably clarify: the character themselves isn't pink, it's moreso a hint as to the series they're from. In fact, the original and the rip-off are both the same colour!

Well that's thrown me, I thought it was Kirby and the rip-off was Mario stealing his enemies' powers in Odyssey. Maybe the little mushroom guys from Kirby then? But I can't think how they would have been ripped off.

They got ripped off because they had their name snatched and put onto a much more popular character 20+ years later in Mario Odyssey (and besides: when do you hear people talk about Cappy the enemy, more than Cappy the sidekick?).

(also I was today years old when I learned the the background characters in Kirby Right Back at Ya were Cappy's)

@TheSaneInsanity Well I personally enjoyed it for what it was. It was certainly in the spirit of the thread, and it’s always interesting seeing the interpretations on the theme that crop up every now and then. I few about as well placed to answer this as give advice on how to lure boys.
