The thing is, the NX is probably a handheld. The 3DS is on its deathbed right now. The Wii U may have been born crippled, but it's reaching its peak years right now.
OK, peak years or not, it has still yet to sell 10 million units. That's less than half of Gamecube, which was considered by many to be a commercial failure, and only just above Dreamcast. Don't get me wrong, I love my Wii U, and I want it to succeed, but come on, let's be realistic...
It is realistic. It costs Nintendo nothing to let the Wii U live out its best years and get some return on their investment. If anything, it hurts to drop Wii U too early, because they will be forced to switch platform mid development on major games, and fans will feel screwed over.
On the other hand, they've released nearly every major franchise on 3DS, the technology has seen its best uses, and its sales are petering out. They have everything to gain from making a new handheld.
And I say this all as someone who owns a 3DS and not a Wii U.
Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F
I looked at IGN's E3 schedule and I found they are presenting eight Nintendo titles during their coverage, which is interesting as from what I remember last year there were only five.

We can probably cross out a few we already know about. Wooly World. Mario Maker. Starfox. Xenoblade. Devil's Third. Hyrule Warriors 3DS.
This will never happen (and in the alternate dimension it does, it'd be at TGS), but what if Capcom VS Shonen Sunday was announced!?
I mean, they already did a crossover with Tatsunoko, and Shonen Jump doesn't need any sort of push in the gaming space (especially with the almost yearly DBZ & Naruto fighters), so it could be an interesting choice.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

That would be interesting, though I'm not sure how well that would fit. Shonen Sunday's biggest character is a kid detective. Not the type of stuff you'd think to put in a fighting game. But to be fair, Phoenix Wright was in UMVC3...
