I have my doubts that Devil's Third will turn up in the Digital Event. Nintendo has barely acknowledged the game's existence since last E3, and even then it just appeared without much fanfare. I think it'll be demoed at IGN or somewhere else after the show.
Itagaki has been talking about good the development has been going though. Nintendo will talk about it at E3. Trust me.
A) Itagaki is the game's developer. He kinda has to discuss the game's development or people will get the wrong ideas, not to mention he keeps bragging about how much the game's been improved but has done jack all to prove it (like, a picture? a video? anything?)
B) Did I say Nintendo wouldn't bring the game to E3? Of course they would, but I don't think they'll bring it up during the Digital Event.
I think the Digital Event will be almost exclusively Wii U focused.
It seems like they used this direct to reveal all of the big 3DS games coming this fall. Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, Mario & Sonic Rio, Chibi-Robo (confirmed to be retail), and LBX (assuming retail, since it's based on an apparently popular anime). That seems fairly solid lineup, though I guess another title could be squeezed in (Rhythm Heaven?).

Those are hardly big games. Big games would be a big name IP like Mario, Zelda, Smash, Mario Kart, DK, Kirby, etc. There hasn't been a single new announcement from any of those IPs, so I think we may see games like those at E3 from both the 3DS and Wii U.

Pokemon and Mario & Sonic at the Oplimic Games are actually pretty big series. I do think we will see a main line Pokemon game as well, but I don't expect much else... I am also expecting the 3DS replacement to be announced next year, so this could be a light year.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
Glad to see they did this. Gets some of the little stuff out of the way like Dr Mario and Mario & Sonic. Also, with Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon coming in Winter, I think that pretty much confirms that there will not be a main series game this year.

Well maybe Nintendo would have other big titles if they actually put focus on other games

Eh, not really. They're both 2nd or 3rd tier games which are popular within the context of their parent series but not so much with Nintendo as a whole.
Also, I doubt we're seeing a main series Pokemon game this year. Mystery Dungeon is releasing about when it normally would, and Pokemon's marketing seems to be squarely focused on existing Pokemon, they don't seem to be ready to show off or promote Pokemon from the next game (no Zygarde, no Volcanion, no new Mega Evolutions, etc.). Pokemon rarely has a huge presence at E3 anyway.
The 3DS really doesn't have a big holiday title yet. Chibi-Robo and SPMD are the only two retail titles, and neither of those are huge franchises.
If E3 is Wii U focused, I think that all but confirms that the NX is set to be a handheld, because the 3DS will have been clearly winding down.
Or it's more Nintendo focusing on the Wii U and just ignoring the 3DS. The 3DS's 1st party lineup has been sparse since last year's E3. Smash was the only big game that isn't a remake or smaller IP (Fossil Fighters, Code Name STEAM). Nintendo is basically doing the same thing Sony did - letting 3rd parties make up the system's lineup and keep the system going. However, they'll throw a few bones so that people can't say they've abandoned it like Sony did with the Vita.

By "big games", I simply meant retail titles (though it's been done before, they don't often release more than one retail game a month, per system).
Anyways, in terms of big name players, PSMD is likely the Pokémon game for the holiday season, and it's entirely possible that Mario & Sonic Rio fills the Mario void (at least for 3DS, as Wii U also has Mario Maker).

I think there will be no Mario Sports game on Wii U because of Mario & Sonic Olympics. Also Devils Third and Fatal Frame won't be in the digital event but will be in Treehouse due to the age rating.
Age rating??? Bayonetta 2 was still in the last Digital Event. Its rated Mature. Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem is rated Mature and will be at E3. I'm sure Fatal Frame and Devil's 3rd will be there.
True about Bayonetta 2, that said it was given the shortest time out of every game that appeared in the Digital Event and the other Mature title was not present at all in it (Devil's Third). If they're sticking with the setup of 1 Mature title for the Digital Event then I think SMTxFE seems most likely.

I'd consider Codename: STEAM a pretty significant title. It may not have sold well, but it clearly has a lot put into it. I'd also argue that MM3D and OR/AS were pretty notable remakes. The former was significantly modernized, and the latter was rebuilt from the ground up. It definitely was somewhat sparse, but this year is even worse. Chibi-Robo looks like a very uninspired 2D Platformer, and SPMD doesn't really come off as the major release the main series games do.
Also, I should mention that about a year and a half into that strategy for Sony, they've officially called it a legacy platform, meaning the platform is considered done.
The 3DS is pretty clearly winding down for a new hardware iteration in my opinion. An E3 without much 3DS news would just solidify that.

I don't think the 3DS is going to be dead that soon, there's still a couple of unannounced games like Metroid, Zelda, and Pokemon that haven't come yet. Now if we get those over the next year, I think it will be dead, but aside from that I think the 3DS will last until 2017. There's still a little bit more they could do with it in the meantime. Either way, we can't really tell for sure at this point, if we see a lot of the games I mentioned above and maybe some other stuff like Wario that still hasn't been done at E3 this year, then I think that will be a clear sign that the 3DS doesn't have much time left. After E3 this year, we'll probably have a clearer idea whether or not it lasts until 2016 or 2017.
We should probably keep in mind that the last two E3s were Wii U focused. They seem much more okay with saving new 3DS games for Directs rather than announcing them at E3 than they are for Wii U games, so I don't think E3 is the best indication of the future of the 3DS.

That's because of the lack of big games though. They don't see a reason to hold off eShop, third party, and localized games until E3 because those don't tend to garner as much sales or attention. Whereas they do save announcements for the big IPs until E3 usually, so if we don't see any then, that's a sign that Nintendo doesn't want to do much with the 3DS for that year.
I really hope Sony impresses me with jaw dropping PS4 announcements. I got a feeling they will have the most boring E3. I'm not hating them. I honestly want a PS4.

I don't think anyone's going to have a stellar E3 this year (maybe one of the third parties), but Sony's is probably the most likely to be boring. Relying on 3rd party games this year is going to kill people's interest. Microsoft's could potentially be good depending on what kinds of first party games they're planning on showing, and while Nintendo seems to be in a similar position as Sony with them having a lot of previously announced games to get through, they seem to have more room for new announcements.
I'm most looking forward to EA's press conference this year. The only reason is that this is the year I think we are going to FINALLY get a new MVP Baseball game. I've been waiting 10 years for another entry.
The only plausible thing that could get me more hyped would be that Nintendo actually changes their minds and reveals more Zelda U info.

I just can't help but shake my head at companies who pretend 3rd party games are exclusives. Like... I bet Sony is gonna talk about Star Wars: Battlefront exclusive content to PS4 and I'm just like, "WHO CARES?! Spend the money you got for the marketing and exclusive content and just focus on making exclusive games!". And am I the only guy who doesn't care for Sony's Until Dawn and No Man's Sky?
