And I have updated my list with Castlevania Order of Ecclesia (Switch). I think I am done with the list for this year.

Next year I think that I will try to complete more games that I have never beaten. As you can see I started strong and halfway through I started completing games I have beaten before. The main reason is that I did not make my usual screenshot journey of those games and that was the main reason to replay them.

I just beat Aladdin, for the Super NES "Console N." Decided to treat myself to the Disney Classic Games Collection, and mostly bought it because it has the version of Aladdin I grew up playing. It really amazes me, I have not played this game since I was a kid, yet, I knew where to go and what to do. Seeing that ending was so satisfying, it brought a tear to my eye.

@Anti-Matter I hope so too. At least the GOG version is DRM-free, so I have the offline installer backed up to a disc. It does deserve a physical release. Still wanted to put in a good report on it.

I've finished my replaythrough of Super Mario Odyssey. I still think it's a very good game - Mario's controls feel great in this game, I like the exploration and how you'd collect Power Moons throughout the various areas, and the capture mechanic isn't too shabby, either. I do generally like a lot of its kingdoms, but I especially love New Donk City and even Bubblaine. They're just fun to roam around in... especially as someone who has been to NYC and has grown up visiting a private beach owned by my family. The soundtrack is fantastic, as well. I love the themes for the two kingdoms I just mentioned. ❤️ And of course, I do love the song Jump Up, Super Star as well.

However... there are some things I'm a bit critical about. I don't like how they shoehorned in motion controls for some things (one example being you'd have to shake the controller to climb poles the fastest), and I'm also not a fan of how you'd have to have a certain costume to get certain Power Moons. I think I'm getting a bit burnt out from all that moon hunting, too... I can understand why people say there's too many of them, and I'm not sure if I want to get all of them a second time, haha.

So, probably not as great as I remember it being, but I still enjoyed my time with it. I'll probably play a little more of it and see if I can still do the Darker Side. I don't think I'll replay SMO as often as most other Mario games, likely because of the massive amount of moons in the game, lol. On a side note, I've been playing the game on Switch 2, and it looks and plays great on it.

I'm back, and I somehow managed to beat an eighth game just a few days before Christmas!

Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online

Gameplay is awesome. Some minor grievances not so much. The one thing giving the pause menu not actually pausing the game a pass is that it fits context wise. And the fact that the PS4 kept whirring practically the whole time that I was playing was... urgh. But I liked the story, and the funny as usual dialogue. And, as I mentioned before, the gameplay is awesome too, and I spent a solid 30 hours on beating it with only getting 75% of the trophies. Would I recommend it to anyone who isn't a massive Neptunia fan? Not necessarily all the time. But would I recommend it to someone who is into Neptunia just like I am? Yes. Especially if you can get it on sale for, like, 10 bucks, like I did. Since it's a good Neptunia game, I give it a (kind of biased, since I like Neptunia) score of 10/10.

Almost hitting the finish line for Mega Man 11. It's been an absolute blast, and surprisingly one of the most difficult entries in the series on Normal Difficulty. Torch Man's stage is straight up madenning, and probably the most difficult stage that I've actually ever encountered in the entirity of the traditional classic series(With the exception of MM7 since that's the only sequel I've got left to tackle), to the point where I was on the verge of nearly tossing my controller straight into the TV screen.

Boss Battles wind up being more diverse thanks to the Robot Masters utilizing their own Gear System, which brings out their inner Mecca-Super saiyan, with a brief transformation that makes them near invincable. And I love using Mega's Gear System to slow down enemie movement and projectiles, which really spruces things up and adds more depth to the core gameplay. Favourite Boss battle so far would have to be Yellow Devil.

But the soundtrack overall just stinks. Acid & Tundra man's themes are pretty solid, including Dr. Wily's Gear Fortress Map theme, but the vast majority have this forgettable whaning techno ravey' ambience that lingers or seeps into nearly every single track. It's so dissapointing, not to mention annoying coming from games like Shovel Knight which boasts a top notch OST, that's actually reminiscent of Classic MM.

Trying to think here what MM11 does new for the classic series....
Modern graphics, 1080p, Widescreen, Rumble, 3 Gear System mechanics, Robot Masters transform with their own Gear System, and an item shop that delves deeper into upgrading Mega Man's abilities. So far, I think Shovel Knight(Which i just wrapped up last week) is still the better game, with MM11 being at least an 8.5. It's all held back by the soundtrack, which is my only real gripe with this entry. I'd still rank MM9 slightly higher for it's time too. It was surreal getting an 8-Bit Mega Man sequel in 2008 was it? in the midst of state of the art graphics, which felt like an anomely compared to now. Plus it managed to capture a bit of that MM2 , heart, magic and soul, and just overall knocked it out of the park.

BUT, I still have a bit more to do in MM11. I'm currently re-fighting the 8 Robot Masters, which will probably be followed up with a Dr. Wily boss fight, possibly another stage or 2, leading into another Wily fight. Also, the same track gets used over and over for all of the Dr. Wily Gear Fortress Stages which is pretty dissapointing, not to mention the track itself is pretty forgottable.

Dr. Wily's Gear Fortress 'Stage Select' theme. Best track in the game imo.

Tanookduke

Gunstar heroes 3D (3DS): After 5 years i've finally sat down and beaten this game. Its really fun, especially with all the QOL changes and modes in this version. The 3d effect was also pretty nice. The only shooting stage around the end of the game though was really bad.

The tanookduke strikes again!

Wario World. Really enjoyed this one, even with some frustrating moments. Solid 8/10 surprise

Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland - 6/10

Riff's off of Super Mario Bros. 2, but failed to come even remotely close to being as good as that game and completely lacked it's magic. I hated how you couldn't easily cycle between 4 of the babies by the press of a button either. You had to press start to switch between them which made things a bit awkward and cumbersome.

Nice 8-bit graphics and 8-bit OST which feels reminiscent of both NES & Comodore 64. I ended up playing it on hard difficulty which ommits being able to baby swap in-game. You select one of the 4 rugrats right before the stage starts and that's that, with only one health meater to depend on instead of juggling 4 'TMNT NES'-style. 3 hits and you lose 1 milk bottle. Cookies give you a 2nd milk bottle. you can't hold anymore than 4.

yet the problem I had with this game was that certain stages almost urge you or even demand that you select one of the rugrats based on their unique attribute to get to lets say the next platform that requires somebody that can jump higher, like with Chucky. Or Lil because she can float frome rope to rope which is impossible with any other rug rat for one particular area in the Attic Stage.

This can cripple hard mode, where you're then forced to exit the stage and select a the different baby to get to whatever area you need to do. It can get a little messy, which is why I'd recommend playing on Normal mode, even though it's stupidly easy.
Selecting modern graphics mode is a bit hit and miss. It looks a bit cheap compared to the show at times, especially with the grown up character models which look a little dumbed down in detail compared to the cartoon it's based on. Also, the plot is fine. With Angellica acting like the boss man as usual. Cute ending that fits perfectly in line what the cartoon series too.

There's some fun and a wee bit of challenge to be had, and it gets better as you progress and try and hunt down every last Reptar Coin within each stage, which you'll need all of to access the final area. I loved the boss music too. That was the stand out track of the many imo. Still, there's nothing unique about the gameplay, at all. It feels like a semi watered down half hearted take on SMB2, but with no run button, along with more confined tight nit stages, less difficulty and stiffer platforming.

0:21 - 0:30 lands hard. Commodore 64 vibes in full effect.

Tommy is Mario(Neutral/All-rounder), Chucky is Luigi(High jump), Phil is Toad(Strong & quick when picking up enemies, objects & digging/or jump-pounding through sand) and Lil(Who daws Princess Peach's Floaty jump, except she floats diagonally downwards instead of straight). I beat it in one 3 hour sitting i think. I may be worth checking out if you grew up in the early to mid 90's watching the Rugrats cartoon, when it's on sale that is.

Beat WARIO WORLD 100 percent at the weekend. I think it is the right length for what it is. Though, anyone who beat it without save states, for the red jems at least, is a real master of gaming. Couldn't do that. So many jumping deaths in those puzzle segments. Loved the NSO Gamecube output so far. A lot of worth in it.

Anyway, had a lot of fun with it. Hope we get more Wario games on NSO soon.

Metroid Dread, 100%, normal difficulty

I had the game since 2021. I got to the final boss all those years ago but couldn’t beat it. I was around 67% completion.

The weeks leading up to Prime 4, I was excited to finish that fight. I tried my original save and… I was absolutely dummied. That boss is no slouch unless you’re extremely familiar with controlling Samus at a level of confidence where you can play very defensively.

So, instead, I made a new save to relearn the game mechanics. In some act of defiance, I managed to hit 100% (before the boss) in under 10 hours. I took a few nights but I have finally managed to beat the final boss and game.

While I am happy to finally close that chapter in my backlog, I was surprised by how well the game plays. I love how you progress through the game, even after all these years, the formula holds up so well. Dread might just be my favourite 2D Metroid, topping Fusion.

Absolutely loved it and happy to play it again in another 5 years!

  • Tanuke Justice - (-7/10)

Felt like cross between Ninja Gaiden and Legend of Kage with a splash of something else entirely. A really addictive, fun and enjoyable Arcade-like experience, that unfortunately doesn't land anywhere near as hard as it could have because of it's weak sauce forgettable OST, and i just didn't like how you couldn't just jump down platforms by holding 'down' & pressing jump which you'd think would be required or manditory for a game this frikkin' hectic and action packed. But back to the music..

The first track that pops up on Stage 1 seems promising enough and definitely sounds inspired by a particular title on NES that i can't quite put my finger on. If this game were squished down into a 4:3 aspect ratio, on a Smaller CRT, I'd 100% believe this was a long lost NES game that never saw the light of day. If feels that authentic minus the WideScreen presentation & lack of a CRT Filter.

But after stage 1, the music is all downhill after that. So ya, Music & not being able to leap down platforms are my only two real gripes. And I gotta say, that last boss will have you on the edge of your seat. Eye cordination needs to be absolutely IN check boils & ghouls! lol Talk about exhilirating. The last two stages will truly test your skills, and possibly with a pinch of hair pulling. And if you're good enough you'll mostly likely get through it in a one 2-3 hour sitting. For what it is, I'd give it a weak 7 or strong 6/10.

Finally beat Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope. This was a game that I’m surprised I hadn’t played earlier, but playing through some of the Mega Man games earlier this year helped me to appreciate the DNA that’s in this game in addition to Mario, Zelda, Ducktales, and other retro greats. I really appreciate how it takes the great ideas from retro titles but then doesn’t waste your time. Just when a section is getting long, we get a checkpoint. Just when a boss is getting a fun level of challenging, that’s when it’s over. Just when a side quest requires a little bit of effort to figure out, that’s when it’s completed. It is the best example I’ve seen of a retro throwback while still feeling like its own thing. The music and characters are great, the gimmicks are fun while not being overpowering, and the challenge mode was surprisingly enjoyable for me, scratching that Kaizo Mario itch while not being unfair. An excellent game that I wish had like one or two more levels but I know there’s a lot of DLC that I can enjoy when I want that.

I recently bought and beat Dadish 4. It's yet another great game in a super underrated series.

Super Mario Maker 2 is the best game in the universe and that will only change if Super Mario Maker 3 comes out.

I beat A Hat In Time. Which is a mildly awkward name because I just want to call it Hat In Time.

Very good platformer, even when practically only doing the bare minimum to beat the game. I'm sure I'll play more of it soon enough but as of now, really quality game. When I think about it, I've actually played less 3D platformers than I assume I would have considering my fondness for the genre and because of that, with the exception of Mario, Banjo and Sonic, this is a strong contender for my favorite of them, probably right up there with Rayman 3. The best 3D platformer that doesn't reach a 9.10 I guess.

It had just a ton of creativity, I love the art style, the bosses were really cool. The only major issue is it felt a bit jank at points, not helped by my occasionally off right joycon, which is not perfect but is never flawed enough to justify buying a 3rd set of them. And with 5 levels, its really hard to not be way more impressed with it than pre-remaster Yooka Laylee that did the same but mostly worse.

I hope I get around to more 3D platformers on this level (or even better?), since in the past decade its really only been this, Mario Odyssey and Sonic Generations that I've gotten around to that were actually great examples of this genre.

Donut Dodo - (NS)

Finally managed to plow through all three difficulty levels. This game puts the original Donkey Kong & DK Jr to complete shame, including most early 80's point rackers. Those two are rendered obsolete in my eyes after wrapping up DD. Out with the old, in with the new! Heck, I can't even get into BurgerTime or Dig Dug anymore, just to name a few. A lot of those 'early' 80's arcade games have been bested by the likes of Flynn Arcade's recent releases, with Donut Dodo being one of the strongest examples. Heck, Freddy Farmer is even better.

Although, Donkey Kong 3(83') holds up wonderfully, as does DK 94' for the Super Game Boy.

Beaten Digimon Time Stranger over the couple days off I had during the holidays/the past two weeks.

It's a solid 7/10, if you're a fan of the franchise. Probably a 5-6, if you aren't. It's MUCH better than the abysmal Cybersleuth duology, but not by a ton. It kept me engaged enough to play through the whole story, building digimon is as fun as ever, same brand of experimental "fusing" and evolving as SMT as always. The areas start out very pretty, but the visuals get ugly as hell after the midway point, for story reasons. The area design is also just bottom tier trash, firmly stuck in the PS2 era of JRPGs. Combat has some more nuance but is still very shallow and the way boss encounters are set up doesn't allow you to adjust your teams to tackle different threats before you already get your ass beat by them and/or you have to sit through battles that are slow as molasses because none of your squad deals effective damage, just because the game rarely, if ever, gives you an idea of what you're about to fight.
The story is very cool in concept, but the execution of the time travel concept is pretty mediocre. It's basically just repeat areas with very minor changes and the way they set up the pacing of the game means you will go through the same area you already visited in one time line a second and third time, usually right after another.

It's a solid romp, overall. Some cool moments for fans of the series. It does have a lot of engaging gameplay elements but they never truly come together and, like I said, the general game design is entirely stuck in a mindset that was outdated ten years ago.

The trailers made this look so much better than it is, I was expecting a higher budget, more modern experience than what Cybersleuth did but, ironically, pokemon has Time Stranger beat in just about every aspect but cool, pretty environments and those make up maybe a third of Digimon's runtime. Everything else is just better in the recent Pokémon games. And by that I mean the pokemon games since ORAS 😅
Bummer, as a casual fan of digimon, but World 1 continues to be their best game and at this point I'm convinced that was a complete accident.

Just finished Silksong. Really great game, even if it's really hard and I have to use MANY mods to finish it. But like... yeah no regrets. I think it's really a far better game than hollow knight.
