Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake
Dragon Quest games are so nice and cozy. I love how you can travel the world, and speak with everyone after beating the final boss. It makes the victory feel more impactful and it gives me a warm feeling. Beautiful game.

@CaleBoi25 It's hard to explain but I just feel like the enjoyment I derived from the game was just in line with the enjoyment I got from other games I rated 8/10. This probably isn't the explanation you want so sorry but that's just how I feel haha

I finally beat Nier: Automata. As in actually beat it, since that does need to be elaborated at times.
...this is probably one I'm not gonna definitively know my thoughts on so quickly. I can tell you it is either the 2nd or 1st best Platinum game I've played, which is high praise but very slightly less high praise than it would be from some people. The game ultimately has a ton going for it and deserved all the acclaim its gotten, unquestionably. It is thought provoking in a way that's also very emotionally provoking, at least for me. And it has some of the best music I've heard in any game. It is an incredible mix of story and gameplay masters that feels very rare (particularly for a AAA action game). Like maybe the only games that hit that specific note for me would be Majora's Mask, maybe Mass Effect 2. (in the sense that enjoying gameplay with that much cover based shooting stands out to me)

But I'm not sure its gonna be quite an all timer for me. The gameplay is not as great as Platinum's best and the world is too limited in scope in a way that's underwhelming and annoying. And the last 1/3 while absolutely having its moments, did not hit the mind bending, incredibly even higher highs that I felt like had been hyped up for me. I dare say it goes in exactly the direction I thought it would, in ways that didn't hit as hard as it could have. (though enough times hit harder than most games to be fair)

Perhaps I missed something, there's things I did not do and I have a feeling just maybe there's enough I didn't actually complete...somehow. It's a weird game that makes me doubt my completion of it a bit. But it is at least definitely the best game I played for the first time this year. (though with some of the games I want to play very soon, I think that could change)

I will say to add to this, the ending stuck with me harder than I expected when I wrote this the next couple of days afterwards. It's commendable in a way that I felt quite miserable thinking about this game afterwards lol. Yeah really wish I had played this game in a less awful year.

@CaleBoi25 I haven't really seen you make any Portal references in recent memory so 17.423(0) = 0

Nonetheless, I'll be GLaD if you make some clever references, in fact it's hard to overstate my satisfaction. Just don't test my patience too much, or I may just Cave under the pressure.

@CaleBoi25 Ah, you must forgive me. I merely wanted to shoot for the moon for my first go at references. Perhaps I fell too much into puns rather than simple references lol 😅

Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo. It wasn't as great as I read, but it certainly wasnt a bad game. The combat was basic, and somewhat repetitive. The dungeon design was probably the best part. Boss fights were a bit of slog at times. I actually had to turn down the difficulty on the final boss which was hard enough, even before the second phase . The platforming was definitely one of the weaker points in the game since its a top down 2d game, and it could be hard to judge. Especially once you have multiple abilities and need to utilize them for traversal. The sprite work was great though. All and all, like I said, decent game. More like a 7/10. Just too many difficult enemy sections, platforming, and boss fights.

Fallout 3 on the Steam Deck. The game feels so good on the deck, much better than on the Xbox One X that I have played it on that can't even take screenshots properly.

DQ 1 Remake
Feeling a little mixed about this. On one hand, I appreciate developer Artdink's effort in this remake. Animations, graphics, arranged soundtrack, voice work...are all excellent. Conversely, I don't appreciate how the adventure has been padded out with more things to collect, such as hiding the MoreHeal spell inside a shelf in the southern-most town. And the difficulty spikes on normal difficulty were a bit of a shock.

Thankfully the auto-save / retry system in the game is exceedingly generous if you die in battle.

I just finished Luigi's Mansion. What a nice, spooky nostalgia trip for me. It's been so long since I last played it on the GameCube, and I'm happy to say that I still enjoyed it. Love the spooky atmosphere, and catching ghosts is as fun as ever. I've explored as much of the mansion as I could, and I also caught 48 Boos. Heck, I even like the fake doors... opening them is actually pretty funny, lol!

I do have a couple minor critiques. I did struggle with beginning to vacuum the ghosts sometimes, those could take another try or two. Finding the Boos if they escape was sometimes a bit of a pain, particularly if I haven't unlocked enough rooms yet.

It's a short game too, but honestly, I'm OK with that. I still had fun with the game and I'm glad I got to revisit it after so long. I even like the ending, where Mario gets shot out of the portrait machine, making him all dizzy, and Luigi laughs tears of joy!

DooM 3 on the Switch. This is probably the most stressful DooM of all

You feel weak in this game. However it is quire atmospheric with its darkness.

Another game down, just finished Star-Crossed World in Kirby and the Forgotten Land's Switch 2 edition. I'm surprised how short it was, but I still had a good time with it. I saved all the Starries, as well.

I beat Alien Isolation. Really cool game that lived up to the hype, more or less. I think its most interesting that I would like a horror/stealth game at all. It took a long time to appreciate either genre (arguably I'm still not into most horror games but horror movies I've gotten more into in the past decade which obviously would help for this game in particular). Really impressive Switch port, fantastic atmosphere and sound design. Quality stuff all around.

Also in terms of horror games I've played on Switch that went on longer than it felt like it needed to, proved me wrong, unlike Doom 3. No one has made that specific comparison before I bet.

Just beat Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition. I bought it when it was on a deep discount on the Nintendo eShop a few months back, and now having played it, I can say that it is a fantastic, albeit small metroidvania. My only gripe is that the combat was fairly mundane and repetitive. Other than that, it's great. Would recommend!

Yet another game down, just finished Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Happy Home Paradise! I did my last facility tonight. I enjoy the base game, so it's no surprise that I enjoyed HHP as well. Making the vacation homes is fun, and seriously gets me thinking... since I want the clients' homes to be as good as possible and to have exactly what they want. Likewise with the facilities.

There's still a little something I want to do in HHP, so I'll keep plugging away at it a little longer. But in terms of its main story, it's considered done by yours truly.

A Tiny Bookshop. I didn't realize how long I played and all of a sudden it was over. I had so much fun though with the business management and the easy going feel.
