Summer235

I beat Epic Mickey Rebrushed. I played it when it first came out but never finished it. It’s a cute game, at first I wasn’t really getting into it but once I started paying attention to the backgrounds (paint/thin out) and the morality system I started having fun.

I just beat Star Wars Outlaws and would give it a 9 out of 10. It was a really good Star Wars game that i would highly recommend. It took me 65 hours to beat the game and all the side quests while doing nothing but contracts for about 3 hours to get credits. All and all i would say that anyone who likes Star wars or action games should play Star Wars Outlaws.

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter
Pretty great. Personally, I would put this on par with Skies of Arcadia. 40+ hours for a playthrough. Great characters, solid writing, good soundtrack, quick and snappy turn-based combat, and beautiful graphically. Estelle and Joshua are the plucky bracers, out experiencing the world. I appreciate the trailer for TitS 2nd Chapter after the credit roll. And Scherazard Harvey...is my new favorite best-girl.

Dragon Quest XI S: Definitive Edition - 10/10
When a JRPG holds all the way and leaves me wanting more when the credits run it's a solid 10 in my book. I was initially skeptical about the time travel story told in Act 3 but I'm very happy how it turned out.

A great cast of characters doesn't need a complicated story, and while the twists are there (some unexpected), and the amount of charm, humor and pure hype on display is rare to see. Yuji Horii is a legend for a reason, and what he accomplished with his team is extraordinary in it's very classic design.

The hype it left me for the 2DHD remakes know few bounds.

Doom Sweeper
A great palette cleanser coming off of Trails in the Sky 1st. Doom Sweeper is an ASS (Automatic Survival Shooter) game. Waves of enemies; you get attack and defensive bonuses at X-number of enemy kills. More power > more enemies > more power > more enemies...and so on. I completed all four stages in under a couple hours.

Not the best experience in the genre (that would be Vampire Survivors). No high points regarding story or graphics. Honestly, some of the weapons feel as though they don't contribute anything in the field. Although it is kind of interesting to see the Switch 1 buckle under the weight of spawns beyond the twenty minute mark, lol.

Fun, but not necessarily recommended.

Really enjoyed this one and the finale was pretty cool. It is a lot of fun to collect and to train the Pokémon. Thanks!

Beat Return to Castle Wolfenstein on PC today, played via the RealRTCW mod this afternoon. Been playing this one on and off.

Another id Software classic beaten, plus I enjoyed the game with the mod more than playing the vanilla game, which had a timing bug on a stealth mission (no matter what I did, I kept getting caught, game really was meant to run on an old PC that could time it properly). The mod fixed that.

The resident Trolls superfan! Saw Trolls Band Together via early access and absolutely loved it!

I went trough Wolfenstein The Old Blood, The New Order and The New Colossus back to back

Still The Old Blood is the best one for me. The creepy occult things that happened in that game UNFORTUNATELY did not carry over to The New Colossus.

I beat Pokemon Legends: Z-A yesterday. The gameplay loop battles are amazing and the writing is humorous. My only complaints are that the map is a tad underwhelming, in addition to the usual graphical woes---these are fairly minor complaints, though.

8.5/10

Just finished Super Castlevania IV. What a tough game... but it's a good one for sure. This marks the first time I finished a Castlevania game. I played it on Castlevania Anniversary Collection.

Love the atmosphere and music, and while it is tough, it is fair, at least mostly - there's some instances of cheap enemy placement in the later levels. But I pushed through. I did use the collection's restore points, but rest assured I didn't go overboard with them.

Just polished off an (almost) 100% run through of Pizza Tower. Phenomenal game that has just about everything I love in platformers and video games in general. Great world and character designs that are hilarious while never feeling like they entirely devolve into memes, character movement that just feels good to get good at and run through the whole stage without messing up, stage design that accommodates the character rather than fights against it, fun boss fights, and one of the top 5 OSTs in gaming. Pizza Tower is textbook to why we need indie games, as this kind of unfiltered passion that isn’t afraid to iterate on other games while still being its own game just doesn’t happen from AAA studios all that much. I P-ranked every stage except Secrets of the World while completing every Chef Task, and while at times it felt like a prison of my own making, it always felt good to see that P-rank screen. Favorite level was probably The Pig City, and my least favorite was Gerome Forest (both showing how to design and how not to design a gimmick level.) Favorite song was Unexpectancy Part 3 with Crust Cove’s theme coming in at a close second. Excellent game, and one I’ll probably go back to try a run through as the Noise in a few years.
Edit: nvm I felt the compulsion to P-rank Secrets of the World and did so first try so now everything’s P-ranked.

I finally beat Nier: Automata. As in actually beat it, since that does need to be elaborated at times.

...this is probably one I'm not gonna definitively know my thoughts on so quickly. I can tell you it is either the 2nd or 1st best Platinum game I've played, which is high praise but very slightly less high praise than it would be from some people. The game ultimately has a ton going for it and deserved all the acclaim its gotten, unquestionably. It is thought provoking in a way that's also very emotionally provoking, at least for me. And it has some of the best music I've heard in any game. It is an incredible mix of story and gameplay masters that feels very rare (particularly for a AAA action game). Like maybe the only games that hit that specific note for me would be Majora's Mask, maybe Mass Effect 2. (in the sense that enjoying gameplay with that much cover based shooting stands out to me)

But I'm not sure its gonna be quite an all timer for me. The gameplay is not as great as Platinum's best and the world is too limited in scope in a way that's underwhelming and annoying. And the last 1/3 while absolutely having its moments, did not hit the mind bending, incredibly even higher highs that I felt like had been hyped up for me. I dare say it goes in exactly the direction I thought it would, in ways that didn't hit as hard as it could have. (though enough times hit harder than most games to be fair)

Perhaps I missed something, there's things I did not do and I have a feeling just maybe there's enough I didn't actually complete...somehow. It's a weird game that makes me doubt my completion of it a bit. But it is at least definitely the best game I played for the first time this year. (though with some of the games I want to play very soon, I think that could change)

@kkslider5552000 I feel like thinking of it as a Platinum game isn't really the best, given that Platinum only had a hand in the gameplay I believe. Majority of Automata was Yoko Taro and his team- at least in terms of the story ideas and how the story is executed.

It's sort of like how Smash Bros is seen as a Nintendo IP, but in reality it's SORA that produces the game- and Sakurai's creation.

NieR Replicant's remake was produced by Toylogic as well.

I don't think that logic works at all, since the majority of the game was Platinum combat.

Also in some ways it arguably IS for the best, since more than one Platinum game has had a story that I felt was an active detriment to my enjoyment of the game, so having a great story is a pretty notable improvement!

Played through some of my old 3rd person action games on my 360 over the course of spooky season.

Lords of Shadow - This game tends to be kind of divisive among Castlevania fans, but it's actually one of my personal favourites in the series. The gameplay is heavily inspired by God of War, but I just love the lonely, somber atmosphere of the whole game, which is elevated by the phenomenal orchestral score. Also has probably the best post credits scene in any game ever.

Splatterhouse- The 360 reboot from 2010. This game is fairly mindless and repetitive, but it is fun while it lasts and that's all you really need from a beat em up. It's definitely elevated by the voice talents of Jim Cummings. Also it's cool you can unlock the original 3 splatterhouse games.

And now I'm on Dante's Inferno also from 2010.

@kkslider5552000 Ehh. I just struggle to think of NieR as a Platinum game, given the nature of Yoko Taro and how he works on games. He sorta just shops his projects to different studios.

Beat Silksong 100% on Steam a few weeks ago. Before that, got the Platinum trophy for Visions of Mana (an okay Mana game that doesn't hold a candle to Trials) and Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising (which I somehow found more engaging than the Hundred Heroes RPG).

Currently working on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.
