@Jhena It makes sense when you factor in that the game was a mess due to Inafune and his team being the lead developers. Most of the game's content was finalized only after Inafune was kicked from development and Level 5 brought development into their internal studios. Things like the Open World feel tacked on because they weren't added until a few months before release.

@VoidofLight
Thanks, this really explains why the game feels the way it feels. Maybe I should skip troubled projects.

I beat Marvel's Spider-Man this time on PS5 and now I am near the end of Spider-Man 2, and I am doing ALL of the map activities. I remember how much I love Spider-Man on its own and not in the company of the Avengers.

Spider-Man and Batman are the 2 jewels that can shine on their own in this superhero jungle.

Yesterday, I finished Yakuza 0 Directors Cut (I had already played through the standard version on the Series X three years ago). It's still one of the best games of recent years and one of the best game series of all time.

Now I'm looking for something new to play through, and I'm torn between Donkey Kong Bananza, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, or The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.

Arguing with stupid People is like playing Chess with a Pigeon. No matter how well you play Chess, the Pigeon will knock over all the pieces, poop on the board, and strut around as if it had won.

I just beat Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter. It took me just over 58 hours to beat Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter and I must say it was an excellent RPG. I would give it a 9 out of 10 and totally recommend it to anyone who likes RPG's or is new to RPG's.

Beat Toy Commander (Dreamcast). An ambitious game and I like it a lot. I was afraid that I would have to get gold in every mision to beat the last boss, but thankfully it was enough to get gold in most missions of the first room.

Borderlands 3. Finally beat this one and it felt good. I put my thoughts in the main Borderlands 3 thread. Overall I did enjoy it and now it onto the DLCs.

Just finished Be Brave, Barb , an adorable little puzzle platformer by the Dadish devs. Took about 4 hours for 100 levels with collectables. The collectables were essentially bad jokes which was cute. This was a one-button game (literally one button because you can't change direction with buttons) which I worried would feel a bit mobile-game-ish but this was actually a pretty satisfying arcadish feeling game. Super easy in some ways but... I also died a ton of times. 😅

Dark deity 2, which is basically a GBA fire emblem clone. Solid time, decent little story, fun characters, and lots of hours of content. I think i clocked in at 29hrs while doing a decent amount of side missions. Solid 8/10 indie and was a genuine surprise.

Pikmin (NGC)
After playing the rest of the series, I knew that the og pikmin would be hard without the QOL additions and better pikmin AI of the later games. But I didn't think it would be THAT hard! No pikmin color swapping while in your squad, pikmin die suprisingly fast to most hazards, Bulbears are actually threats again.. despite my skills I had almost 1k pikmin deaths by the time I beat the final boss on day 24.

Despite this, pikmin was still a fun, albeit challenging, time. I also loved the story, and how isolated and mysterious everything was. I kinda wish the series stuck with this more darker storytelling than going for a more 'silly with hints of mystery' tone later entries did. Its like the lugi's mansion 1 of the pikmin franchise - I wish more games in the franchise were like it, but I don't entirely dislike the direction the rest of the franchise took anyway.

I beat YIIK I.V. I question how many people know this exists but controversial indie RPG, YIIK: A Post-modern Adventure, got a massive update late last year. Very much a "let's try this all again" type of update, almost like the recent Yooka Laylee remaster thing, but as a free update.

It was one of the first games I played on the Switch, I was very interested in this one getting a sort of redemption, as someone who had been paying attention to the dev since they had a kickstarter back in like 2012. I'm undecided entirely what to think about it, especially considering the bizarre bombshell it drops at the end of the game that I was unfortunately spoiled about. I can say it is unquestionably better than the original release but I'm not sure if by a massive degree or if I just respect it going for broke. It is...an experience, to say the least.

I will say, tonally, among other reasons, considering I've been on and off playing Nier: Automata this year, kind of a fitting companion game in its own way. Maybe by the end of the year I'll have a concrete opinion on it.

Dead or Alive 2
Finished the story mode with Ein and Ryu Hayabusa. It was enjoyable and the difficulty is just right for a fighting game amateur like me.

As part of my yearly Halloween tradition I beat Castlevania Symphony of the Night once again. Still a great game and one of the GOAT. Up next for my Halloween game session Resident Evil 4 Wii edition.

I beat Miles Morales, and it is really the low point of the 3 Spider-Man games. I just do not like Miles in this game. Peter is the best Spider-Man

Recently I ordered Spider-Man The Return of the Sinister Six for the NES I know most people consider this a really bad game but when I was a kid, I used to beat that game every day. It is such a nostalgia drug AND its soundtrack is awesome!

Tanookduke

A kappa's Trail (dsiware)
A fun little dsi game that could have been a little less touch-screen dependent for controls. Had a lot more content than I expected.

Silksong - I achieved the 100% in-game percentage, and beat the final Act 3 boss... which pops the "Completion" achievement.

Took about 80+ hours, with mixed feelings upon finishing it. I love that Team Cherry made the game that they wanted to make, without compromise or pandering for mass appeal, but equally I do wish they would have dialled down some of the more tedious elements (runbacks, the whole economy/currency system, high halls gauntlet....).

On a positive note, some of the boss battles are absolutely epic - beautifully choreographed and some very memorable battles.

100% completion and beating Act 3 is a perfect place for me to put this down now. No way am I attempting some of the time-based achievements.... 5hr speed run lol!!! (Final Act3 boss probably took me that long alone)

E33 is still my GOTY, still not really sure where I weigh in on Silksong. To quote a redditor I saw recently "the greatest game I've ever hated" (!)

I randomly beat Shovel Knight Dig. I had not played this game in quite a while, but it happened to be on the SD card I had with another game I went back to, so I played it for a while longer and beat it. Though it has some sort of extra content apparently, I dunno if there's a true ending or anything.

Um...its a very good game, though I still much prefer non-rogue-like Shovel Knight. I really don't think it was a good fit for the puzzle game spinoff especially. It's funny I beat this less than 2 weeks to what WAS Mina's release date.

I finally finished Mario's Super Picross. I love a good Picross game and it is a solid one. It was nice being able to finally play this one too, it never came out here in the US until the NSO release. I don't like the time limit though, particularly for the later puzzles. I tend to take my time with these puzzles, and in the more challenging ones, I would be short on time when I'm not close to being done yet. Other than that, good puzzle game.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 for the first time. I really liked the first half. The second half dragged on just a tad bit. Not too bad, but i had to keep going back to older Galaxyies just to get enough stars to progress. Felt like it slowed down the momentum, but it wasnt too bad. Some of the better boss fights in the series, and definitely some of the best level designs in the 3d series. But there were a few really annoying and frustrating sections. Some that come to mind are just about anything with a time limit, and that damn spring power up. 💯 the worst power up in any mario game. Its uncontrollable and irritating. I did like the cloud power up though, that was a favorite to use. I can't remember if I liked Galaxy 1 more since its been a long time since I've played it, but i can certainly say its not my favorites 3d mario. 64 still takes the cake for me, then odyssey. Nostalgia probably plays a big part in that, no doubt. Needless to say, one of my favorite levels in Galaxy 2 was the throwback Galaxy. Overall, solid 8/10. Just a few annoying parts and star road blocks held it back from being a 9 or 10.

Just finished The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch remake) a second time. Still an awesome game after all these years. I like its story and dreamy atmosphere, and it's a good classic Zelda game through and through. It might just be my favorite top-down Zelda game next to A Link to the Past and A Link Between Worlds. Ah yeah, and as someone who is a fan of Mario, I liked seeing all the cameos/inspirations they stuck in this game, too.

I didn't get everything in the game, but I did get a large chunk of items, like heart pieces and seashells. I also did the color dungeon, and I even finished the game without a single death! On a side note, I played on the Switch 2, and the frame rate was a smooth 60 FPS the whole way through.

My only real critique about the Switch remake is the dungeon maker. I've used it a few times, but from what I've seen, it feels half-baked, and it just doesn't seem like a necessary addition to the game. Also, the fact that there's only eight directions for Link to move is a little... strange. I don't know why they made the movement like that, but it didn't hinder my experience at least. Everything else about the game is fantastic though. My favorite feature about this Switch version is definitely the extra inventory buttons, since I wouldn't have to swap equipment around nearly as much (though I do understand why the original and DX versions weren't like that, the Game Boy/GBC only had two face buttons). And heck, I like the cute art style, too. It's not a flawless remake by any means, but it's still a lovely one overall.
