Am I allowed to say The Legend of Zelda? Most people will at least acknowledge the impact it has had on gaming, but almost everything I hear about it is how awful it is as a game and doesn't hold up anymore, and I couldn't disagree more.

These people should play literally almost any other NES game that isn't a fondly remembered 2d platformer if they think Zelda 1 is dated.

I never see anyone talk about Mario Party DS, but honestly it was great. Me and my cousin played it all the time!

@burgerkingsauce I thought more people knew about that game now because of the anti piracy videos?

@Greatluigi Oh man I forgot about those! Yeah that was a fun time, but it's kinda sad the game will be known for a fake anti-piracy ARG than how it actually was. And it was great!

@Tyranexx Am I missing something re. Dragon Quest IX? You can get it for under £20 in very good condition on eBay UK.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

The 3D era of Mortal Kombat games are definitely underappreciated, at least in a sense. I sometimes see chatter for the classic games or the reboot era, but the era between MK4 and Armageddon I rarely see discussed. They weren't perfect, but they definitely tried to make unique, interesting fighting games with fun single player content.

Wish we could get simple ports of these to modern platforms.

@gcunit games do vary a lot between regions. Devil's Third is going for stupid money in the US, whereas in the UK it's like £30.

@TheLX Deadly Alliance and Deception were great. I think fighting games tend to be judged by a small minority of hardcore multiplayer obsessed gamers.

I spent way more time playing Deadly Alliance than MK11, because there was more to do, and at a basic level it was more fun.

@burgerkingsauce I loved Mario Party DS as well! The boards and minigames were great in that game. Definitely the best handheld Mario Party game and I really like how it doesn't require multiple carts for multiplayer.

@Wargoose Perhaps, but they really shouldn't vary that much between two english speaking nations for game on a region-free platform.

@gcunit ...Actually, you present a fair point. While I still don't fully understand why many used games are more expensive on this side of the pond vs. the UK and Europe at large (and vice-versa in some cases; more demand maybe?), I did momentarily forget that the DS is region-free. Probably because I've mostly been stockpiling 3DS games lately, where the distinction is important. In that case, I'll likely try shopping online on stores outside of my region. I appreciate the reminder!

@WaveBoy I can't speak for Klonoa - never played the series - but I second Wario Land: Shake It!. In my opinion, it's one of the most fun platformers on the Wii. I thought the shaking gimmick would annoy me, but I found it enjoyable.

@Tyranexx The DS is region-free?

Starts franticly buying European DS games

@Tyranexx You're welcome. But I don't think it's just you, as I'm fairly sure I've seen a few references online recently to the inflating price of IX and wondered what was going on. From my UK perspective, IX has always been the most plentiful and cheapest of all mainline DQ games since I got my first 3DS in 2015.

Some collectors will insist on consistency of region for multiple reasons e.g. the different DS cases across the pond, but I'll happily take them from anywhere if the contents are compatible.

@Deltarogue Yep! Any DS game that doesn't require an add-on of sorts, like the Guitar Hero: On Tour games, should be compatible with any system. I have no idea why Nintendo had the DS region-free and then dropped that for the 3DS.

@gcunit The sad thing is that I shouldn't have forgotten; I ordered a CIB copy of Spectre's Call from a UK seller on Amazon US early last year and played it 3-4 months later. It was in excellent condition and was slightly cheaper than what Last Specter was going for used/loose at the time. I was happy to sacrifice access to the Layton's London Life add-on if it meant I could play the main game.

In many cases (at least for RPGs), DS/3DS prices over here are pretty crazy for even used games. Case in point, I bought Dragon Quest VIII on 3DS new for about $30 USD a few years ago. Now it's well over $100 in many cases used. Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology? Not as crazy; ~$35 when I bought it, ~$100 for a new copy. The pandemic certainly raised demand, not to mention Nintendo is now sunsetting the 3DS and Wii U eShops. Still, for prices to climb as high as they are is mind-boggling.

I'm not personally fussed where a game comes from, so long as I can understand what's going on if there's a plot, the game is in decent shape, and is legitimate. I'm a player, not a collector lol.

A personal favorite of mine that I'm sure at least a few of you in this thread have heard of is Fantasy Life on the 3ds. I received it as a gift for my 11th/12th birthday back in 2015 (can't remember exactly which birthday it was, but I'm currently 19 if anyone wants to do the math). From that day onwards, I played that game RELIGIOUSLY throughout the entirety of my Middle school career, racking up between 200-300 hours of total playtime across the base game and its DLC, with a sizeable portion of which I spent playing with my sister over local wireless slaying bosses and trading items. The 12 different life classes added some nice variety to the gameplay, and the seemingly neverending mountain of quests will keep you playing for a long time! My only real complaint about the game is the story. While the characters are well written and charming, some conversations between characters can get a little wordy, to say the very least. All in all, I highly suggest that anyone with a 3ds should check this game out, especially while you can still get the DLC (which you don't need the game to purchase or need to progress to any specific point in order to buy). Also, if you are a fan of animal crossing, monster hunter, or both, DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS GAME!!!!

@Wargoose Deception and Armageddon were probably my most played games in the franchise. I really enjoyed the third-person adventure modes, as awkward as they were at times. The mini games, like chess, karting etc. was also fun for what it was and it's a shame most of the newer games are almost 100% built to have an overly cinematic story mode and complete focus on online play

Spy VS Spy on the PS2. It was actually really fun to play multiplayer. Me and my sis had a lot of fun playing that game.

DKC Tropical Freeze is the greatest 2D platformer of all time and its not even close. Yet its only sold 3.4 million on Switch. The quality of the game deserves far more.

Sniper Elite 4 and Zombie Army 4 from Rebellion are the two greatest 3rd party shooters on Switch. Sniper Elite 4 is the best stealth game I've ever played (more so that MGS or Splinter Cell) and provides fair opportunity to shoot your way out if spotted. While Zombie Army 4 is the best zombie shooter on Switch. Both games have quality gyro aiming, excellent HD rumble, full game on cart, small file size digitally, fast load times and ZA4 even has Steam cross save. And they're 1080p docked, 720p handheld and don't drop a single frame. Yet nobody talks about these games. It's absurd how good they are and yet go completely ignored in favor of mediocre games that run poorly.
