I got Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex box set for Christmas. I'm a little confused though. There's three films in it - The Laughing Man, Individual Eleven, and Solid State Society. Are they related to the original Ghost In The Shell movie? I've watched Ghost In The Shell 1 and seen Ghost In The Shell 2 on the shelf at the library, trying to work out whether these are GITS 1, 2 & 3 or an entirely different set of films under the same/similar canon. Don't have access to a DVD player right now to find out for myself.

Laughing Man and Individual Eleven are movie compilations of GITS: Stand Alone Complex (the TV show) seasons 1 and 2 respectively. They basically take the whole season, trim out "filler" (although in GITS:SAC I dont like to call it that) and edit it into a 3 hour movie for both. I didn't like them as much as the main seasons because I liked the season's dub better (and liked almost all the "filler,") but that might just be me. As for Solid State Society, its a sequel to the TV Series and is an original movie that takes place as if it were a third season. And if you wanna know how Stand Alone Complex relates to GITS 1 and 2 (the movies,) its really anyone's guess. Same universe, many of the same characters, but not necessarily in the same timeline or continuity/canon.

@Objection_Blaster: Ah, ok. Thanks for clearing that up.

So, anyone heard of Darker Than Black? Watched the first ep last night, was pretty good. Seems like an interesting storyline

I've heard of it, and it seems to be a favorite of several members here. I'm tempted to give it a watch, but I already have too much on my plate at the mo.

Darker Than Black isn't all that great imo. It's just a blatant cigarette ad with a pretty little anime cover and a very slow-paced and experimental storyline. I can understand why some people may like it, but it just isn't for me.

Anyway, I just finished Ep. 6 of Phantom: Requiem of Phantom, and I'm really liking this show. The action is over-the-top (just the way I like it), each episode seems to have a specific meaning, and the plot is pretty interesting. I also think it's pretty funny how whenever a girl talks in the anime, the camera zooms into their chest and completely avoids their face. :winky:

I just got done watching Gunbuster, from Hideaki Anno of Evangelion fame. Very good mecha anime, And I highly recommend it to anyone interested.

Also, who here likes/has seen The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya? I'm curious about that one.

The fanbase sucks like you wouldn't believe but it's pretty awesome. Kinda of a parody of...lots of anime (particularly high school/harem...I think) that slowly (or quickly?) turns into a compelling, character driven sci-fi adventure of sorts. Maybe. It's one of those "screw being in a specific genre" series and I have to admit I'm far from the best person to accurately describe it.

And if I can't convince/force people to watch Detective Conan, this is the next best thing (although outside of the high quality of both they are quite different).

Thanks, that sounds more interesting than I thought. I'll give it a shot probably tomorrow.

Make sure to watch it in the broadcast order though. (don't ask, it'll make sense when you watch it and just in case I'd rather not spoil why you should watch it in the broadcast order)

Just finished Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom and it was fantastic. Replacing Death Note as my third favorite anime of all time. :3

I liked Phantom, but better than Death Note, really? Didn't think the characters were anywhere near as likeable, the story way more non-sensical and... Scythe Master? Gotto love time-skips though, but I didn't care for the ending (or indeed most of the second half).

Anyway anime of the year 2010 is probably Yojou-Han Shinwa Taikei (aka The Tatami Galaxy) for me. Anyone else seen that?

I'm watching the first episode right now. Pretty cool so far.

@TeaLoverToma Well, if the entire show was like Episode 12, then it would've been my favorite anime of all time.

First season great, some boring episodes- But for the love of god don't even touch season 2. Or if you do watch season 2 skip episodes 2-9. They're the exact same.

Agreed with Marzipaz on Haruhi, watch season 1 (preferably in achronological order), skim through season 2. And then watch the fantastic film.

I was only planning on watching the first season, but thanks for the tip, Marzipaz.

I'm finally getting through some OVAs I had on the backburner. Now I only have Megazone 23, Bubblegum Crisis, FLCL, and Project Blue Planet SOS(Ugh...) left to watch, though I may take a break after Megazone 23. If I do I might squeeze in Plastic Little next time...if I ever find it Got it order for $5.

OVAs:

Gunbuster
Dream Hunter REM
Genmu Senki Leda
MD Geist
Legend of Lemnear
Dragon Century
Megazone 23
Bubblegum Crisis
FLCL

Also, Ani-Monday's moving to Tuesday, with Gurren Lagann getting a third run, which means I'll be able to watch it this time.
