Oh, bloody hell. I guess this rules out a future "Australia" region Pokémon game. =P
I hope that they will at least consider more Pokémon based on Australian fauna to make up for it. Now, I'm no patriot, but I wouldn't mind having an all-Australian Pokémon team.
If we're speculating on possible future Australian-based Pokemon, I wouldn't mind seeing designs based off of the Wallaby or Thylacine. Since the latter is extinct, maybe it would be a fossil Pokemon?
Nekkoala might be my favorite of the new designs so far. Also that ability is really good for competitive battles.
Yee I could see it doing well in little cup, predicting a switch into sleep powder or effect spore.
You've got its ability backwards, it's immune to every status condition EXCEPT sleep. So you could switch into to moves like Thunder Wave, Poison Powder, or Will-o-wisp, but not Sleep Powder.
Well, I could see it being built around the gimmick of being constantly asleep. So maybe witching into a sleep inducing move will be safe in most cases.

That's a brilliant idea. I was thinking that the Thylacine could be the basis for a legendary Pokémon, but it makes a lot more sense as a fossil Pokémon. I'd love to see some super rare (but not legendary) Pokémon that can only be found under specific conditions given how some of Australia's most iconic fauna are sadly, critically endangered or extinct.
Having more Route 1 Pidgeon/Rat Pokémon is a given, but I'd also like to see a slightly less common Pokémon based on the Australian White Ibis, and a Kookaburra Pokémon goes without saying. Snakes and crocodiles are also a given, but I would like to see a crocodile Pokémon with a less anthropomorphic form. Croconaw and Feraligatr hardly resemble crocodiles at all, and the Krookodile family hardly resembles real-life crocodiles due to its bipedal form. I want an intimidating crocodile Pokémon on all fours, dammit!
What would make perfect sense for legendary Pokémon in the "Australia" region (Australis?) would be creatures based on Aboriginal myths (the Bunyip would be an obvious choice for one of those legendaries).
Porygon did nothing wrong.

Wow they hate zygarde, a legendary that's forced to hold a focus sash is surely viable and strong. Gotta love that complete form that dies in a single hit before it does anything.
Like seriously... I think 50% zygarde in x/y has a better position than complete or 10% LOL. Atleast I can run damage+bulk+recovery (resttalk), with new zygarde It's basically reshiram except weak until almost dead and then dead.
Anyways,
As adorable as the dog is, it's just that, a dog. I get they want a casual design but the two new ones are literally just the animals. The koala could use some more markings or something so it doesn't look like it has even less detail over a real world koala.. it's literally just a koala without a dark nose. Even pancham had some differations from a real world panda with sharper patterns and a twig in it's mouth.
Regardless, the designs are adorable. Just they seem much more casual and feel like there could be more to their overall appearence. They are stage 1s but like I said, stage 1s like pancham and lilipup had much more detail so you can tell them apart from a clip art panda or dog.

I think a Dark type Kookaburra would be interesting, as they've always struck be as being a bit mischievous. Although that might end up a bit like Honchkrow. Anyway, definitely a Kookaburra of some type would be cool. And some sort of Dingoey thing would be cool too.
