@Grumblevolcano: I dunno... it would be a waste of alternate forms if it didn't... but it would also be a shame if a Pokemon from a previous generation completely hijacked a new game.... If this is a completely new generation, that is.
To be honest, I suspect its role will be very minor. Seems like Zygarde's story arc got skipped over when these games were announced, and I suspect the new legendaries will be the main focus. In other words, it's alternate formes will appear in this game, and you might be able to catch it in the wild, but it won't play a big role.
I would imagine Zygarde's formes will be given in Sun/Moon, but any plot regarding them will either be in some Delta Episode style arc, or will just be anime exclusive.
I think this may have been intentional. For one, take a look at Zygarde Complete, which has 5 colors in its chest. It has red and blue which likely relate to Xerneas/Yveltal, but there's also an orange, a light blue, and a white. Do some of those extra colors sound familiar? Orange and Light Blue are the colors for Sun and Moon.
Additionally, Zygarde's concept and lore could fit right in with Sun/Moon. Zygarde is stated to monitor the environment a.k.a. the Earth. So Zygarde is not just the third mascot for 6th gen, but 7th gen as well, at the center of everything in both generations.
Or Zygarde has no association with Sun and Moon's lore, and people are too hooked up on them doing something with Zygarde when they don't actually have to

Guys
I have confirmation that Zygarde is indeed associated with Sun and Moon's lore
The Moon logo has a shape in it that looks like a croissant

People wouldn't be hooked on them doing something with Zygarde if they didn't keep leaving hints that they want to do something with them. The amount of people concerned with what's happening with Zygarde should tell you something, the fanbase wants to see a "Z" type of game to complete 6th gen. Game Freak needs to be very careful about how they handle this, if it turns out there is no equivalent to Z (especially if that means Pokemon games will never get an equivalent to third versions/sequels again) I can pretty much guarantee you there's going to be a mass exodus of fans from the series.
I think there's plenty of reasoning to suggest Zygarde will eventually have its time to shine. It's been teased and promoted, and they've even titled the anime XY&Z. I think it's safe to say that Zygarde will be some sort of a 'bridge' Pokemon (not literally) between the two generations. Although it's interesting that it's not getting a title role in the Magearna film.
Unrelatedly, I've more-or-less finished the bad guy battle track, now featuring actual percussion. I think I may have gone overboard with drums on one part, but overall I'm pretty pleased with it. I'd appreciate any thoughts. https://soundcloud.com/user-327390218/team-scrumptious-battle...
Because if XY is the new normal for world building, there's going to be a lot of fans that would get sick of the sheer lack of depth and oversimplification of the games. There's already been a lot of fans complaining about XY being too light on content and the storyline being too rushed/not explained properly, third versions and sequels are when they go all out in these areas. Skipping that would mark a huge decline in quality for the series.

That makes sense.
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
Or, you know, skipping Z is just a one time occasion and Gen 6 is just an anomaly. I do believe that the concept of the "third version" needs to be dropped. Sequels or bust from here on out.
About the whole Zygarde thing, isn't it possible it could be anime-only? For one I don't really see how the Zygarde forms would be handled in-game except the complete form and maybe the doglike form. iirc the cell forms can't even fight.
And unless Ash actually appears in the new games, it wouldn't really make sense for Ash's Greninja to appear except, possibly, by event like Spiky-Eared Pichu.
As for new reveals, it would be nice to see the starters but I'd love to see the Legendaries first
@TingLz: lol. Well, Mr-What's-His-Face did say that he was going to try something "unexpeced" which probably means the starter will be a fire/psychic instead
