They won't keep Mimikkyu's name the same. At the very least they're going to localize it to something like Mimichu (which is a good name for it anyway). English speakers wouldn't be able to read its Japanese name so easily.
So happy about Hyper Training. Raising IVs? Thank you! Breeding takes way too long at times (screw you, Dratini).
As for the new Pokemon, I like them. Comfey is pretty cool for a Fairy-type design. It has the ability Flower Veil or Triage, which makes restorative moves have highest priority in battle.
Then there's Mimikyu and it's ability Disguise, which gives it a 1-time substitute.
Mudsdale is a pretty cool design. One of it's abilities is called Stamina, which raises it's Defense by 1 every time it's hit by an attack (I'm assuming physical attacks only, or at least I hope).
Wimpod: It's that it doesn't have the Rock-type, otherwise I'd think this could be one of those fossil Pokémon. I think it'll be more like the Krabby, Corphish or Clauncher of this game.
Bewear: Basically the red panda version of Pangoro. I'm not really sold on it yet.
Mimikyu: Will there be other forms of this guy based on dolls of other Pokémon, I wonder. Reddit's Pokémon subreddit has beeb letting its imagination flow freely over this for the past few days.
Comfey: This guy reminds me a lot of its fellow Fairy-type Flabébé. The flower wreath thing is a clever idea.
Bounsweet: This I expect to be the Bellsprout or Oddish of this generation. But it reminds me even more of Cherubi from Diamond/Pearl. Will this evolve into a flower or fruit tree Pokémon?
Mudsdale: Really digging this Ground-type horse. One of my favourite designs so far and the only one I immediately liked in this trailer. Can't wait to get one of these. Being a Ground-type means it also has a good counter for Electric-type foes.
"Wimpod," "Mudsdale," "Comfey," and "Mimikyu" (Mimic You) had me pretty bummed out, but "Bewear" is an excellent name.
I love how their idea for Mudsdale was a horse in ankle socks and dreads. I'll put this guy in my party because it's a horse, but I hope it evolves to look less ugly.
And finally, Mimikyu's ability animation is the best. It's all "Hey, little kids! Have fun playing Poke—"
Wimpod is ok, sort of ugly but I do like crab Pokemon. Its description about spewing toxic liquid against threats makes me wonder if it will evolve into a Poison type?
Comfey and Bounsweet are both cute, though they remind me of Flabebe and Cherubi respectively. I hope their evolutions will be a little more unique to differentiate from those two.
Mudsdale is neat, not a favorite of mine but still cool. Its design isn't bad, but it does look like it's wearing ugly 80's leg warmers.
Still don't like its design but the bear is now growing on me, especially once I realized the pun... I also hope, if it evolves, that it will embrace the pinker and kinder part of itself and become a Fairy/Fighting type. That would be awesome.
So far the only evolution line we've seen is Grubbin -> Charjabug -> Vikavolt. Overall we've seen 25 new Pokemon. Wonder if they'll show a couple more evolutions soon. Middle stage of the starters perhaps?
Mimikyu - I still really like this one. I love the possessed doll feel of it, and its concept is pretty sad; all this Pokemon wants is to be loved like a certain overrated yellow mouse.+ Wimpod - This one's...interesting. It's ability seems kind of useless other than offering a free switch. Maybe it'll grow on me, but for now, I think it's kind of meh. Bounsweet - This one is...okay. The description for it has made me deem it as Alola's version of Hoppip. Comfey - This one is probably my least favorite of the batch; it reminds me too much of Flabebe (which I'm also not fond of). Still, it gets a couple of brownie points for bearing the concept of the Lei. Mudsdale - I LOVE the design for this one! I love its calm demeanor, and yet it could still trash opponents like they're nothing. Plus, I've been wanting another horse-like Pokemon. Bewear - I really like the localization name for this one. It's still not one of my favorites, but it's starting to grow on me. More than anything, its name and the fact that it's a bear reminds me of this:
Don't get me wrong, I like Pikachu. It's just that there are other Pokemon that I like better.
Bounsweet got me thinking of lychees, and watching Alex's latest video made me want to make a lychee-esque Pokemon. I remembered I'd been lent one of those drawing tablets that you plug into your computer, so downloaded some free software and had a go at drawing. I'm not very experienced (at all) with tablet drawing digital art studios and stuff, so it's doesn't exactly have a Reddit topping degree of polish, but I think I've been able to get the main design ideas across.
It's changed a bit in the process. The 'ruff' around the neck ended up becoming something that reminds me of a vanilla flower, and the lower petals are more like... well, petals than lychee pieces, but generally it's pretty close to the original idea.
Anyway, I've hit a bit of a block with it, or at least got to a point where continuing might lead to the rest of it being a bit boring. Here's what I've got so far:
I'm unsure about the head. I'm a bit worried about drifting of into the generic 'feminine flowery thing in a dress' archetype. I could just admit that it's tied up with Bounsweet, give it Bounsweet's face, and pass it off as a cheap 'fakevolution'. I though I could make it Grass/Psychic to give it some floating objects around it's head to make up for it's lack of limbs, but this is a pretty vague idea too. I had a go with giving it vines coming out from under its petals, but they ended up looking a bit creepy.... Anyway, I know this thread is not an art club, but feedback would be appreciated from people who actually know something about Pokemon.
Looks like there may be a live-action Pokemon movie in the works. Via Serebii:
"Variety and Hollywood Reporter are reporting that the movie studio, Legendary Pictures, has won the rights to make a live action Pokémon movie and will begin in 2017 with a movie based on Detective Pikachu, the Nintendo 3DS game that was released earlier this year in Japan. The movie will be distributed by Toho in Japan and Universal outside of Japan."
I'm not sure how I feel about this, honestly.
