Yeah I'm annoyed because Nintendo didn't include a cheap screwdriver with their new console and it's mandatory to access the microSD card and swap them. At least, they could have included a bigger capacity SD card. No big card nor screwdriver.

Agree about the screwdriver (why have it that way to begin with) but not with the SD card size. 4GB is very generous of them. Sony uses a proprietary card and includes nothing. Most electronics like cameras you usually have to buy separate.

Although to be honest, lots of toys you need to use screwdrivers to open the battery compartment, and none come with screwdrivers. It's usually pretty easy. Will have to check mine when it arrives but maybe you had an unlucky one.

It's not the same replacing a lithium battery (very unlikely that you'll need to do that) than swapping memory cards so yep, they should have included a screwdriver.

It's not unlikely because many toys don't come with batteries at all (alkaline), so you have to remove the lid with the screwdriver, insert the battery. It's just an example about things you buy where you need screwdrivers and they are not included.

The toys I had when I was a kid had a very simple cover you could take off with your bare hands but anyway let's leave toys apart.

Cheap screwdrivers would trash the thread if used badly. Expensive screwdrivers would add to the cost.

It's not cheap! I bought it at the department stores, made in Germany (not China).

I don't like using Philips screwdrivers. (I have some that I think are JIS that work on Philips screws).

He's talking about including a screwdriver with the 3DS. Cheap ones would trash the thread. Expensive ones would add too much expense.

Okay... So what is Phillips exactly, a kind of screwdriver tip? Mine says Phillips 0.

Does every 3DS include a Philips CD-i?

If anyone is struggling to find one, I used one from a glasses repair kit. It was a perfect fit. Plus you're more likely to find a glasses repair kit in a supermarket.

I have a screwdriver from the Nyko 3DS Charge Base, and unsure if it's a Phillps 0 screwdriver. I was unable to check it online, as well.

I just bought a glasses repair kit at my local Walgreens. It's not a philips head, but rather a flat head, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

I don't own any swiss army knives

Also the glasses repair kit was $2

@Espy @TeeJay Thank you, guys. You really helped me with those possibilities. I don't live near any optician's which is weird now that I think of it. I'm going to the ironmonger's and if they don't have it that size I'll try to find a glasses repair kit. This is going to be an adventure!

Then I'll send a parcel bomb to Nintendo.

I returned the Phillips screwdriver and bought a small flat screwdriver. Its work perfectly fine on both my old 3DS XL and my new 3DS. If you want to know, the included SD is 4GB speed type 4.

Just curious, why would you want to open up your old 3DS XL?

@alLabouTandroiD LOL

@Espy. I didn't need to but I read the screws were the same and I needed a screwdriver as soon as possible as I was trading in my 3DS XL. I just wanted to unscrew the 3DS XL to know if the screwdriver would work on New Nintendo 3DS.

My conclusion, official Nintendo information (Phillips 0 screwdriver, as stated on the instructions manual and the official Nintendo of America video) doesn't work. Small flat screwdriver for glasses repair worked perfectly.

Separate from this I opened up mine to install a Mugen battery (regretted doing it as it made the console too heavy to be comfortable).

Reporting in: My flathead screwdriver worked. At first it seemed like it was too small and would strip the screw, but thankfully that didn't happen. It could have been just a smidgen larger but nevertheless it worked

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

@TeeJay same here, I got a slightly smaller than the screws screwdriver but it worked perfectly. It seems that flathead screwdrivers are better for this, just what Espy and you advised.
