Topic: New Nintendo 3DS screwdriver (help!)

I have read that the screws on 3DS XL and New 3DS (XL) are the same. Any of my father's screwdrivers work on the 3DSXL. I bought a Phillips 0 screwdriver just a while ago and, shockingly, it doesn't work either. The screws are alright because I never tried to unscrew the screws before. What ******* kind of screwdriver do I need for the New 3DS? I need to open the new console tomorrow.

I think the screwdriver you need is called Phillips screwdriver.
The faceplate also cling to the n3ds quite well without screwing the screws in though..

The one I bought is Phillips 0. I want to remove the bottom cover in order to access the SD port so I need to unscrew the screws.

You'll probably need a 00.

Where do I find a Philips 00 screwdriver (not online)?

Nintendo should have included the screwdriver with the New 3DS, even if it was plastic-made. It's a stingy decision not including any if you need one for swapping memory cards.

You'll probably need to buy it at a hardware store.

Nintendo official information says I'd need a Phililps 0 screwdriver. That's not true, they made me lose money and time.

It's possible that your screwdriver is defective as well, or poorly made.

No, it's brand-new. I bought it at the department stores today and it's good quality.

By the way, Nintendo recommends using a 00 screwdriver on the regular 3DS XL. So your source was misinformed, or recommends using a 00 on the New 3DS as well.

Vanilla dude cool down. Im pretty sure philips 0 screwdriver is correct. Maybe on your old 3ds xl model the screws are really tight ? I'd tinker around with it. And keep in mind the screws got a cross and not a line. Sry dont know how to say the difference in screwdrivers in english
The screws look the same indeed between 3ds xl and new from screenshots based on here : http://www.nintendo.com/3ds/features

My source is the official Nintendo video you linked. It says:

"You will need a size #0 Phillips screwriver" (minute 0:27)

Yep, somebody here said that the screws are the same, that's why I tried to unscrew the 3DS XL screws, not because I need to but because I want to make sure this thing will unscrew New 3DS screws. They both have crosses yep.

Yeah I'm annoyed because Nintendo didn't include a cheap screwdriver with their new console and it's mandatory to access the microSD card and swap them. At least, they could have included a bigger capacity SD card. No big card nor screwdriver.

It's probably very, very tight. I've been hearing from a lot of people that it's difficult to open.

It just slips, like it doesn't catch the cross. Well, I think I'm strong enough to unscrew these things.

Does it seem like it fits? Or does it seem like it's a little to big for the screw?

The second. It's difficult to explain, but it's like the screwdriver cross is too big to be inserted into the screw cross.

Agree about the screwdriver (why have it that way to begin with) but not with the SD card size. 4GB is very generous of them. Sony uses a proprietary card and includes nothing. Most electronics like cameras you usually have to buy separate.

Although to be honest, lots of toys you need to use screwdrivers to open the battery compartment, and none come with screwdrivers. It's usually pretty easy. Will have to check mine when it arrives but maybe you had an unlucky one.

It's not the same replacing a lithium battery (very unlikely that you'll need to do that) than swapping memory cards so yep, they should have included a screwdriver.

It's not unlikely because many toys don't come with batteries at all (alkaline), so you have to remove the lid with the screwdriver, insert the battery. It's just an example about things you buy where you need screwdrivers and they are not included.
