If I recall correctly gammoth's japanese name also had a mammoth pun in their. So it looks like they just carried it over to the English name, similar to what they did with Dinovaldo's English name.
The only lacking name IMO was Mitzune, which just literally means Water Fox.
When playing online and needing help with Mizutsune, I'll ask, "Anybody willing to help stage a performance of Le Miz" -bu dum tiss-
Keeping as blind to this title as I can other than being outrageously excited, I merely hope there are some good bubble status weapons, HH particularly as I hardly hunt any other way.
I always liked 'zinogre' because it had 'ogre' in it. And it seemed like an unruly sort.
The monster itself... I always had qualms with. It's whole lore of existing only in extreme temperature areas always seemed like a cop out (or maybe that was stygian and brachydios—regardless my point still stands). I really love Monster Hunter when it feels like the beasts themselves fit into an ecosystem—the zones—which in turn reflects upon them. Like if zinogre looked less like vault boy...
...and instead inhabited the deserted island and flooded forest exclusively, using an attack that would electrocute the standing water and anyone standing in it. In the way zin would be like agnaktor, barroth, and kecha wacha—it would belong.
This is harley relevant to Cross, but I do hope Monster Hunter takes this more wholistic approach to creature design in the future.
