Me after playing Am2R earlier this year: "One of the reasons I'm glad this exists is because it updates the other outdated Metroid title, and one I can't see Nintendo themselves going out of their way to remake."
Though this will probably be better than LoS at least, since it looks like a Metroid game instead of a mediocre version of whatever 3D action game was considered cool at the time.
Very happy about this, but I'm also one of the people slightly concerned about Mercury Steam's involvement. Samus' animations look a bit janky here and there, and at times it feels like the backgrounds kinda clash with the rest of the game. I heard Magmoore Caverns' theme at a lava section during the Treehouse, and I really hope they don't reuse too much Prime music. The series needs less recycling in that regard.
Aesthetics aside, it's nice to see they're willing to change the game significantly. Metroid II doesn't have the best map design in the series, so I hope they mix it up heavily. The presence of warp points seems to imply otherwise, though. They wouldn't need them if they remade the map to interconnect its areas more naturally.
People are inevitably going to compare this game to AM2R, and that's a tough act to follow.
@DarthNocturnal Alright, if they're the same they're the same.
The point was, I don't want a new game —even if it's a remake— to sound exactly like another game in the series. Metroid and Super having similar themes makes sense since both take place in Zebes, but SR388 is its own thing (that goes for Tallon IV as well). Give us new compositions, that's all.
Septermber 15 can't come soon enough. The only aspect that worries me is that this game doesn't seem to have the charm on the enviroments that other entries had, but then again the original return of Samus wasn't good in that regard. The gameplay looks relly fun and in the end, that's all that matters to me.
Edit: Nah, I just saw the treehouse gameplay video and it looks amazing in every way. A bit weird to have that Norfair remix theme though, since this isn't Zebes.
@roy130390 People have said the trailer looks better in 3D. If it doesn't affect the gameplay, this might be the first game I play with 3D on since... ALBW?
@meleebrawler Non-stackable beams were one of the best things Prime brought to the table gameplay-wise, if you ask me. Was that shown in the Treehouse segment?
@MarcelRguez 3D is a mechanic that I tend to forget in most games to be honest, but I believe I can see how it can enhance the visuals considerably with this game, considering that they seemed to give prority to make the backgrounds with different levels of deepness. For some reason Shinobi 3 came to my mind when I tried to imagine how could it look with the 3D effect.
@MarcelRguez It was certainly a good way to help encourage different approaches to fights. Although Prime 1 was a bit too on the nose with it at various points (this enemy is yellow, so use the yellow beam to damage it, derp). 2 did it best with ammo management, punishing excessive use of a given tactic, especially with the Annihilator Beam.
Three main elements of beam were mentioned (fire, ice and electric), and the... Gamma, was it? Metroid couldn't be damaged at all until Samus switched to the Ice Beam. I also noticed a purple Spazer/Wide beam.
@roy130390 Lol, I meant to say the framerate, not gameplay. But yeah, to what degree the backgrounds pop out can enhance the aesthetics greatly. Just lock the framerate down, the N3DS shouldn't struggle with 3D in O3DS-compatible games.
@meleebrawler I still have to watch that, thanks for the heads-up. Will do it now.
Metroid II was the first game in the series that I completed. Thanks to Club Nintendo (R.I.P.), I was able to download it on my 3DS a few years ago. Needless to say, I'm stoked for this remake!
As for MercurySteam being involved, while I never played Mirror of Fate itself, I did quite enjoy the demo. I'm definitely giving this one a chance.
Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)
I can't believe they actually made this. Guess they saw how much people liked AM2R and wanted to capitalize on it. There's definitely some interesting things about this game, the melee counter and Aeion abilities definitely spice things up. Melee counter especially really takes Other M's combat and tones it down in a way that actually adds to the gameplay.
That being said, there's probably going to be some things AM2R does better. Already the Arachnus fight looks worse than AM2R's.
I'm actually glad to hear MercurySteam is working on this as Mirror of Fate had some of the best 3d I've seen on the system. Can't wait to get my hands on this!

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
@Spoony_Tech I wasn't, as I didn't care for MoF, but the treehouse footage reassured me. It looks and plays like an updated Metroid game, and has music that was composed by a previous Metroid composer. I think this is going to be great.
@Bolt_Strike This game has undoubtedly been in development for a good while. Long before the AM2R controversy, assuredly. It takes time to create polished commercial products.
