Samus Returns is currently sitting at #7 on the Amazon Video Game sales charts, in the US, at least. It's sitting above Mario + Rabbids, which made it to #3 Monday, Splatoon 2 and Breath of the Wild Switch, along with PS Store cash cards and other controllers and stuff. Metroid Prime 4 is at #10, believe it or not.
I managed to pre-order the limited edition with the soundtrack yesterday. Didn't wanna wait and miss my chance. But yeah, Nintendo's been killing the charts all year now. Odyssey moved into the #2 spot for a it yesterday, knocking one of the PS cash cards off, which is huge, cause those NEVER move.
So has anybody managed to pre-order the SE yet? The only place I'm finding with it listed is GS, and it kicks it out of the cart as no longer available any time I try to check out
@Meowpheel My strategy every time I play return of Samus:
Not do the logic and practical thing (do a map or google one) and run like crazy for the next hours with a permanent sense of deja vu. Works every time!
@NEStalgia I was able to order it from GS yesterday, and it says it's still available. The amiibo dual-pack is also up now. I hope both do well, sales-wise. If they do, we might get more Metroid games.
I figured this game wasn't PC enough these days to be remade. Our hero is a Genocidal Mecenary on a mission to eradicate an entire species....GO SAMUS!
To be fair, remaking Metroid 2 as it is without going off the lines to make it more interesting would result in a very boring game.
The original game isn't very long or hard, if you just add a map and make things easier to distinguish then you'll make it even easier and shorter.
This. The original was fairly linear, dull, and empty so it wouldn't stand out much nowadays. That's why Doc changed up the design in AM2R and that's why this game will probably do the same. I'm also hoping that like AM2R, this game will add more character to the areas instead of just being generic caves and ruins. Making the main area a regular cave is fine but the other areas should have more variety and better theming to really make them interesting to visit.
@Monado_X Hmm, it shows as available, but I tried to order it a few times yesterday and today, and no matter if I pick checkout for online, or pick up in store, once I get to the checkout part it ejects it from the cart and shows an error saying no longer available (even though it's still listed as available.) Maybe you got in just at the right moment.
I don't think I've ever played a Metroid game longer than perhaps 30 minutes on the SNES. I can hardly wait to get this. I should probably also think about playing the trilogy or Other M on my Wii...
I hope this remake adds more bosses as well. AM2R knocked it out of the park on that front with the robot bosses, and I want to see more SR388 wildlife like Serris and Arachnus. Don't put every Fusion boss in there, but tie both games more strongly in some way.
Agreed. The Metroids never really felt like bosses to me when there's so many of them (they're more like minibosses than full bosses) and it'd be weird if they left Arachnus as the only one. And with the new combat mechanics in this game, boss battles should be a lot more dynamic and interesting. So I see no reason not to throw in some actual bosses into this game.
Where's the legion of people who've been begging for a new Metroid all these years? Particularly the ones always talking about a 2D Metroid?
I'd expect this thread to be a little more lively than 6 pages by now
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
Zachariah 12:10 (500 yrs before Christ)
They will look on Me whom they pierced
I don't think page number really represents hype for the game. I'm sure everyone who's been wanting a 2D Metroid is extremely happy at the moment. Plus, I'm guessing this game might be the first of a few. Maybe after this we get an actual Metroid 5
