@BravelyDavid I already played fire and ice, thats the reason I got interested in shattered crystal as well. I really enjoyed fire and ice =] kind of makes me wonder why people around me said it was terrible, in my eyes it was a great game and I will surely get back for a second playthough at some point
I've still got my original GB, GBC, GBA SP and DS Lite. They all occasionally get used too, but I wouldn't dispute that they're commercially dead by now and the 3DS will probably be in much the same situation in a couple of year's time.
@VoltageX Ahh, well if you did like fire and ice then shattered crystal is just ok in comparison, the flow of the game is just a little slower and forces you to find some collectibles before progressing, which was all improved upon in fire and ice so I would play it knowing that going in
My prediction is that either the end of 2018 or spring 2019 we will get 2 new versions of Nintendo Switch. A Switch-mini that is lower cost, more durable and geared as an entry level/kids product, and a Switch-Plus that has a more powerful graphics card and processor to better support newer games and ports. The original Switch will shift as a mid-level product after a price drop. Nintendo will eventually develop the Switch as a family of systems(much like the 3DS line is now). All 3 versions will also begin to be sold with a micro-SD card of varying size depending on which system you get. My guess is 32 for the Mini, 64 for the standard and 128 or 200 for the Plus.
All the while Nintendo will keep selling the 3DS/2DS line on the side while slowing and quietly fading support and game development for it. Once demand drops below a certain point they will announce a final end of production, probably in 2020. Then sell off the remaining stock for a few months after that.
@YummyHappyPills Please forgive my simplistic technical terminology. But the idea is the same, an improved/updated version of the Switch, probably using the Tegra X2 like you point out. Alongside a cheaper refined model for entry level users.

When I was a moderator at some other forum I made a picture because well, it's a really frequently asked question. But ever since I made it there's always been someone to beat me to it.... #first world problems
I'm afraid 3ds will be commercially dead in 2018. I'll bet there won't be any significant first party games. But as long as I draw breath the 3ds will live because I'll make sure of it!

The only 3DS game Nintendo has announced for the 3DS for 2018 is that Sushi Striker game. A few Atlus games are being localized as well, but that's it.
All of Nintendo's internal development studios have moved on to Switch, as well as most of their external developers. With Gamefreak moving to Switch, Pokemon Ultra Sun/Moon will be the last big 3DS game.
@westman98 The Alliance Alive too, just to complement. Also, as far as I know, Dragon Quest XI is confirmed as being localized and not just a possible localization but I could be wrong. It probably will be dead by 2019, but is nice to see that they are still giving a few big games for it's closure. It's also good to see that one of those Atlus games is a Shin Megami Tensei.
@iLikeUrAttitude Yeah, me too, I always see their videos to avoid missing good games.
