Not to hard if you go out and about upgrading your life, it's like Zelda with collecting hearts before a boss

Maybe, I know I spent an hour and a half having to replay the whole first area because I didn't know about the upgrading I kept getting to the boss and dying and then having to replay the level, I was so mad

There a variety of ways to improve your character, either by increasing health, sword strength, different special move... whatever. It can be a bit tough once or twice, but it's generally not what I would call an overall difficult game.
The game looks fun, and hearing it that it plays like Punch-Out makes me want to get it, but I'll wait for it to go down in price.

do you still like the game?
Oh yes and I still have yet to beat it and unlock hard mode (maybe that's where the reviewers say its hard) but the main story isn't too hard for me

The final boss is really tough. If you take the time to level up your sword and get enough gold to buy items, then it is not too hard until the final boss. You will recognize most of the patterns after awhile and be able to consistently dodge most attacks. The problem I had with the game is that it is essentially one mechanic that is applied throughout the game, and there is just not enough variety to carry it.
I played through the game on normal, and it was actually pretty easy. Maybe I just have good timing. Only hard part was the final boss, who was kind of brutal.

Yes I have yet to beat him, any suggestions?

Don't remember much about the actual fight. I maxed out my item count, upgraded my sword as high as I could and collected all the hearts. I also did the street games to upgrade my special attack. There's also a Kappa item that autorevives you once that I think I had. After that, just retry until you do it...
You can also get an item that negates any damage for ten (I think) hits. That in addition to the revive item & loads of rice cakes, is what you'll need to tackle the final boss (and max life, of course).

I think Sakura Samurai had the right degree of difficulty. The game requires much observation and patience. You can't simply strike at your whim. You have to observe the enemy's movement, find the exact moment he is vulnerable, and then strike. I personally found it very satisfying whenever I striked an enemy down due to those qualities. The real challenge are the bosses. Whereas many of the previous encounters have you be ableto spot their weakness once, the bosses change their routine several times and therefore the act of striking him successfuly the first time will rarely work the second time and you will have to observe and test against his new routine.
I believe many reviewers don't take the time to really appreciate/get to know the depth of a game. They make an assessment of the game after their intial impression and go with that. Also there are some reviewers who write reviews on genres that they are very lacking in or care very little about.
While I haven't played the game in a while (got to the stronghold of the last boss but his henchmen, especially those damn ninjas, have so far kept me from confronting him), I still hold the game in high regard and yes I had a blast playing it. I've always meant to go back after taking a short break but I tend ot get a strange case of ADD when it comes to new games...
Pretty dang hard! I kept putting it down because it was too difficult. Each time I play it though, I advance a little further. I'm still not that far, though. Beautifully made game, though!

Was it worth the $7 bucks? I was thinking of getting the game, but I already have enough games on my plate.
