Its a game with a great story but it not worth its current price. It shouldn't cost more than 5 bucks. The gameplay can be boring (as in... all you're doing is running back and forth) and the card game does get stupid. It also abruptly ends.... Lol just beware. I bought the game and I enjoyed it but I wouldn't recommend it at its current price.

I'm sure it will go on sale at some point as all the Guild 01 went on sale at some point. Personally I felt it was worth the 7.99.
I actually loved the card game and collected 100% of the cards. I might go through the game again soon even though I'm sure I didn't miss a thing. Actual play time can go up to 15 hours collecting all the cards but the game can be beat in a few hours
Still playing 3DS but will have Switch soon for multiplayer with friends. I miss you guys! Adam, Joni, Gavin and the rest of the Blue Rogues from the Phantasy Star Zero Days.
So I just beat this game and I wanted to see if I'm missing something. I did not know much about the story beforehand, but what I had seen were people discussing if everything was just taking place in Sohta's mind or not. That doesn't even seem like a possibility to me. It's strange and not realistic, sure, but it's a video game. It doesn't have to be. Did anyone here think it was all Sohta's imagination?

Nah. It wasn't his imagination
I thought it could have been either. I am leaning towards the imagination thing though
always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)
I got it at the December sale for 5€ - it's one of those games that I wouldn't have regretted buying for the full price. Definitely the best of the Guild serie.
It's really really good. There's not much to do, gameplay wise, but put it this way: how much does it cost nowdays to go to the cinema and see a good anime?! That's it I guess - it's a great anime with a phenomenal built-in card game (someone please release a whole game based on that card game, it is mega). I really recommend it to anyone with the slight interest in japanese culture and humour.

I expected a game, got a movie with a focus on running along the same 6 streets and finding little rocks which turn into cards. It tried to give a feeling of human innocence, but with rocks turning into cards, all the spoilers (there's like 2 in the whole game), and the japanese vibe, it was impossible for me to relate to. And even a movie doesn't leave major plot hanging like this does. It just rubbed me the wrong way; even on sale this wasn't worth it for me, it even only lasted 2 hours!! My only eShop purchase where I want my money back.

A good game personally, really thought I was going to regret my purchase. The biggest problem is the card game being not that much fun (zero strategy required, you have to make some lucky guesses in and hope that you win) and remembering the characters names is really hard. However, the game is very well written and even though I can't relate to most of the very Japanese things in it, I can relate to the innocence of being a child that this game conveys.
It is a bit expensive seeing as how short it is, but it's definitely something everyone should pick up whenever there's another sale (and they have been on sale quite a lot).

If you think the card game takes "zero strategy", then you're doing it wrong. Yes, luck is in involved based on how the initial cards are placed, but then it becomes a logic problem.
I do think it would have been cool to keep your record against different opponents. Some were definitely tougher than others; mostly because of the cards they owned, but some seemed genuinely better strategically.

I personally thought the card game had a lot of strategy involved - I mean, it would have been just luck if it was the classic rock-paper-scissors, but when the win/lose predictions come into play it becomes a mixture of strategy and chance (as proper card games should be).
Critique on the ending is also pointless because 99% of western indie games have endings that make no sense - at least Tokyo Tale makes no sense from the beginning so it's rather consistent.

@klimbatize In my experience of the card game, I won every card game within 5 tries (give or take 1.) However when I fought Nanafushi (the bully character) for the first time, I had to play the card game over 40 times before I won. Every prediction I tried to make resulted in a loss. I was constantly changing my predictions and trying different things, and only won through blind luck.
While it definitely does help to upgrade your cards and find new and different ones, the placement of the cards in the beginning pretty much dictates if your going to win or not in my opinion.

Yeah, don't take this the wrong way, but I wonder if you fully understand the mechanics of the game. It should never take more than a handful of tries to beat any of them if you use the hints correctly. Yes, you can have an initial placement of cards that make it impossible to win, but most games will be winnable because you can figure out anywhere between 2-5 of the opponents card types through the hint system and the initial Win/Loss report. I'm confused when you say "every prediction I tried to make resulted in a loss." There is no predicting. You either know what a certain number of your opponent's cards are or not through logic.
I'm not claiming the game doesn't have it's fair share of luck; it definitely does, just like any card game. But the game should not be reduced to just blind luck if the rules are understood.

@klimbatize No offence taken, I don't play a lot of card games (either in RL or in a game). I do pay attention to the hint system and try to position my cards so that I will correctly beat the opponents cards when I know I will lose. The problem I find is that the opponent will shift their cards and pretty much cancel out mine (I've even lost a couple of times when I was in a winning position). Maybe I don't really take into account what the other cards (not highlighted by the hints) could be.
Despite this, I enjoyed the card game, and the game overall. I just personally feel that there's TOO much luck involved in the card game for my liking.

If the game is just 3-4 hours long, what could make this game a great choice for the price? But as I am now reading the last comment here, I'd probably give it a try. I'm still after a game that can be fun and most esp. a game that has great graphics!
