"This is war; survival is your responsibility" ~ HUNK
Today is a baby win, Tomorrow is a big boy win
When theres no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth.
I'm easy to scary so the demo was pretty terrifying at first. As I when on it got less scary. Enjoyed it a lot overall. I wish I could see better though. More than half the time my screen was black and white with blood all over.
Not being able to walk backwards while shooting is apparently a problem in Survival Horror gameses. .
hold L while aiming and you can walk backwards, forwards, or strafe while shooting. problem solved!
Hence why I changed the control scheme. From what I remember the default control scheme has the circle pad for movement and aiming, L for first person mode and I think A for shoot. So from what I could tell you couldn't aim, shoot and move at once because once you held down L the circle pad was just for aiming. Unless I was doing something wrong.
The third control scheme uses A/B/X/Y as a second analogue stick which was much, much better. When you hold L in that control scheme you can use the circle pad to move and A/B/X/Y to aim which is clunky but it works.
I may have to get this just because of how hot Jill is. That overhead view of her on the bed at the beginning? DAYUMMMM! Never played the RE games much, but right now I think I've been missing something!
I enjoyed the demo although I'm not sure I will get it because it's not my type of game.. I downloaded it mainly to test the controls without the circle pad pro, and to see the 3d effects on a game with "modern" graphics.. both aspects actually impressed me, the 3d effect when set to very high was very deep and although it bothered my eyes a little bit (with the slider all the way to the top too) but was beautiful to look at and made the environments come to life..
I used the gyroscope for aiming and it also enriched the experience although it ruined the 3d effect.. so it's a choice either 3D+CPP .. or no 3D+ gyroscope which are both good and have unique experiences each!
Gyroscope controls all the way. I didn't see this option at first and found aiming a chore, then turned it on and everything was smooth, including aiming while walking. I have no problem at all with gyro and 3d, because I evidently have steadier hands than others That was also my way of shooting all projectile weapons in OoT3D, and I loved it. I have no interest in a CPP for this game after trying gryo. For me, it's quicker and more accurate than analog sticks, no matter how many you tack on.
I died my first time on hell mode (haven't tried again just yet), and it felt like the old RE games: clearly not enough ammo to kill everything, so I'll have to make decisions.
Graphics look great, and I particularly like the injured / low-health effects. The scanner also has a neat effect.
I usually prefer more 3D (more!) so at first I used that "very strong" setting, but it causes too much ghosting and really didn't help much in this case. Just the normal 3D, but with the slider at max, seems much smoother to play.
I don't really care for the enemies, because zombified humans just seem eerier to me, but at least these things have the frightening tendency to pop up everywhere.
flashlight effect at the end was excellent, even though we don't get to see much of it.
having to switch weapons on the fly using the bottom screen makes it a bit more immersive and frightening than the old inventory screen where all the action patiently waited for you. It's great to have the map, secondary items, and everything else right there at all times.
After my play through this game last night I've come to a couple of conclusion! First off this game is beautiful to look at. The environments jump to life and the tension was definitely increased on hell mode. I also think with headphones the volume is just right and I found myself actually turning the volume down a few times and I have hearing problems in both ears. Gyro aiming is also the way I'm going with this game as its closest to Wii remote aiming the game has. I rarely lost the the 3d effect and it was the best control set up for me to play this game. As for turning the 3d up. There was to much ghosting on the highest setting. As good as it looked I won't enjoy the game if I see double images all game long. The second setting is what ill be using since it was not nearly as bad. Looking forward to this gem. Oh and thanks a lot waveboy for ruining the elevator part lol. I opened the door and tossed in a grenade!
Edit: lol I see warioswoods and I agree on a lot of things!
I was impressed with the demo. I need to go back and finish it, but having never been interested in an RE title before, this one definitely has me considering a purchase. :3
"Love your ego, you won't feel a thing, always number one, the pen with a bent wrist crooked king, sign away our peace, for your war, one word and it's over." ~ Deadmau5
Use the gyro to aim at the zombies, better accuracy.

The ghosting didn't appear for me as much once a I re-adjusted my 3DS' position, I just held it a little higher than usual. Did anyone else notice that the fog makes the framerate drop to around 25FPS?
Controls felt fine i needed min to check instructions but after that i felt perfectly happy with controls.
Am really good at resident evil games ive played nearly every RE game to date so i felt right at home playing this.
On first play through i completed it fine and didn't die once!!
i really like scanner thought it was great way locate more items that were unseen to naked eye:)
I did jump when two monster came from celling but thanks to my trusty shotgun they didn't scare me for long!!!
As for monster with big claws 4 slugs put him down and then 6 shots from pistol finished him off! if don't want get hit by him move away! blast from a distance.
i though graphics and general look game was boss!
i didn't notice anything wrong with frame-rate though
and i used standard controls shooting my weapon in first person felt natural!
but i think i would much more prefer it to be third person:)
overall great cant wait get it:P
If we knew how small we were are problems wouldn't seem so BIG!
Yeah the controls felt fine to me also. If you've played any of the Resident Evil games on Gamecube you'll feel right at home. I doubt I'll even need that circle pad pro thing. It sure is nice they are going back to the more traditional Resident Evil style other than those more recent Call of duty rip offs.

Yup, i agree. I was thinking i was going to get the circle pad pro along with RE:R but after playing the demo, i think i'll pass for the time being. I'll save my $25 gift card for something else, or keep it until i decide to get the circle pad. Next game after RE:R that i'm getting is MGS3D, which uses the circle pad as well. So might need to get it anyways.
RE:R demo was awesome, i got scared on two parts. And then i died. So i'll have to restart it again to finish the demo. So far though, it is by far the best graphical, sound, gameplay, scenic game i've seen on the 3DS. This is a day one buy for me, right after i get off of work.
Just got the demo and I got what I expected. Almost everything about it seemed solid except for a few hiccups like the compressed sound. I really had some tense moments in the demo and it gave me a more Dead Space vibe than RE4 or RE5, even the cheap scares seem comparable. There were moments where I was at the verge of death and had low ammo, and I applaud the game for that. There is no doubt that I will be getting this game day one, I am a fan of Survival horror/Action horror type games. Can't wait for the full game, and I will get that Zavvi Frankenstick bundle too.
The demo turned me from disinterested into a customer. I'll take it. Seems like some awesome, simplified RE action on the go, with tight controls and an impressively disarming atmosphere.
Looking forward to having the crap scared out of me.
Well now, the demo was scary, and not in the "zombies everywhere! Gotta use my rocket launcher!" way from the previous few games, it was the "I'm on a corridor, what's that sou-AAAHHHRG!" kind of scary from the older games. I may get this game!
Also, I died at the very first room when trying the hard mode....
