Okay yes, we know we're a tad late with May's eShop Selects, but come on, it was not-E3 season! Nevertheless, we're back again to round up the best offerings of the month; granted, it was a relatively quiet one for the most part, but that doesn't mean there weren't any diamonds lying in the rough (we might have even been a bit cheeky and included one or two boxed games this month - hey, it was a quiet one, okay?!).
So let's get cracking then! Well first round up some honourable mentions that didn't quite make our top three, but they're nevertheless well worth checking out regardless.
In the meantime of course, be sure to check out the eShop Selects for April while you're at it!
Honourable Mentions
- Layer Section & Galactic Attack S-Tribute | Review: 8/10
- Toaplan Arcade Garage: Hishou Same! Same! Same! | Review: 8/10
- Prinny Presents NIS Classics Volume 2 | Review: 7/10
- Soundfall | Review: 7/10
- The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story | Review: 7/10
3. OPUS: Echo of Starsong - Full Bloom Edition (Switch eShop)
Coming in at number three is the wonderful narrative driven title OPUS: Echo of Starsong. We called it "an emotional adventure that represents the apex of the series to date and easily one of the best story-driven games on Switch" in our review, highlighting the incredible atmosphere on display and the emotional heft that the story carries.

2. PAC-MAN MUSEUM+ (Switch)

Bagging the silver medal this month is PAC-MAN MUSEUM+, a delightful selection of some of the iconic character's most seminal releases over the years. It's got plenty to offer, with online leaderboards and missions to complete, and we just loved how solid the emulation was for each game. Some of the extraneous content might have been a bit lacking, but that doesn't take away from the fact that this compilation includes some of the greatest games of all time.

1. Citizen Sleeper (Switch eShop)

And in first place this month is Citizen Sleeper, a game that many of our staff unanimously enjoyed. Its strong narrative and writing can be compared to the likes of the incredible Disco Elysium, and we particularly enjoyed the beautiful art style on display along with the awesome synth wave soundtrack. Definitely one to purchase if you like strong role-playing games!

How we decide our eShop Selects top three: As we reach the end of every month, the Nintendo Life staff vote on their favourite titles from a list of games selected by the editorial team. To qualify for this list, these games must have been released as a digital-only Nintendo Switch eShop title in that particular month, and must have been reviewed on Nintendo Life; we select the qualifying games based on their review scores.
Staff are then asked to vote for three games that they think deserve to sit right at the very top of that list; first choice gets 3 points, second choice gets 2 points, and third choice gets 1 point. These votes are then tallied to create a top three list, with the overall winner taking that month's top prize.

Soundfall is the only game I've played out of these so far. Definitely buying OPUS: Echo of Starsong as soon as it gets a decent sale though.
PAC-MAN MUSEUM+ wins hands down for me; super fun and well-made game even if it's sad there's no ms pacman. I haven't actually played any of the others, but Soundfall is on my wishlist- it looks neat but I am terrible at rhythm games so I am undecided about getting it.
@FishyS I was thinking about picking up Pac-Man Museum+ until I learned that there was no vertical, aka tate, mode for the arcade games. Namco had already made that option available in its other collections and Arcade Archives have released these titles seperately with the vertical mode intact, but they cost more than this compilation. Anyways, it m made me hold off.
Wholeheartedly recommend Citizen Sleeper. Phenomenal game. Brilliantly written.
Gonna start campaigning right NOW for Pro Gymnast Simulator to make it into the June eShop Selects article.
For me, in May, I’d pick PAC-Man Museum. Citizen Sleeper is pretty good as well, from what I’ve played of it, but PAC-Man is PAC-Man. Quite honestly, it’s hard to argue against something as solid as a package of PAC-Man titles.
Pac-Man Museum is amazing 😍 So many interesting and addictive games that were maybe slept upon until now by many people (I didn't know a lot of them even existed)
I tried PACMAN Museum on GamePass but felt there was some major input lag, may be just an Xbox issue though.
OPUS: Echo of Starsong is incredibly slow-paced (and there are some very long segments where you can't save your game and have to completely redo them if your child decides to grab your Switch and play something else), but I'm enjoying it as much as its predecessors. Once again, the world-building is fantastic.
@HeyNavComm I've heard there's some latency on the other versions, but I have the Switch version and there I didn't notice it much.
PAC-MAN Museum + is my favorite modern collection in a while just for the games alone, even with the weird absence of real options for the games besides a crappy zoom-in option and CRT filter, and Pac-Mania being way too bright somehow, I still enjoyed myself and for $20 (at least digitally on Switch), you get a pretty alright time.
