The year is moving along quickly, and the Switch has been relatively busy in terms of major releases. On the eShop, though, April proved to be another packed month with a range of highly regarded ports and awesome new games. Once again, then, it's time to try and pick the best of them all from the last month.
These awards aim to celebrate the best of Nintendo's digital store, giving some love and attention to the games that could so easily be missed in the Switch's ever-growing download library. It's worth noting we've focus on download-only games and not retail downloads, DLCs and so on.
So, let's get started. Here are the best Switch eShop games of April 2022!
Honourable Mentions:
While these titles didn't quite make our top three this month, they're still certainly worth checking out:
- Arise: A Simple Story - Definitive Edition | Review: 8/10
- Blast Brigade vs. the Evil Legion of Dr. Cread | Review: 8/10
- Demon Turf: Neon Splash | Review: 9/10
- Dungeons of Dreadrock | Review: 8/10
- Slipstream | Review: 7/10
- The Last Friend | Review: 9/10
- Toodee and Topdee | Review: 8/10
3. Gotta Protectors: Cart Of Darkness (Switch eShop)
Gotta Protectors was a hugely fun game on 3DS that we loved, and it turns out that Gotta Protectors: Cart of Darkness is a hugely fun game that we love on Switch. No surprise there!
This title from development studio 'Ancient' offers a take of strategic mayhem across its campaign. It blends tower defence with action, which you can tackle solo or in local co-op with friends. The gameplay is great fun, but it's elevated further by sharp humour and excellent retro-style presentation.
Don't sleep on it, be sure to check out our review for a full breakdown.
2. The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe (Switch eShop)

This particularly iconic Indie game arrived on the Switch late in April, but has still managed snagged the silver medal.
How to explain The Stanley Parable. Hm. Erm... Well, in terms of its history it began as a mod that was so popular it was converted into a full game, and years later here it is on Switch. Pleasingly it runs very nicely, has a bunch of new content, and is still as fascinating and memorable today as it was when it was originally released.

1. Nobody Saves The World (Switch eShop)

This month's winner is Nobody Saves The World, the latest title from the brilliant Drinkbox Studios (which you may know for Guacamelee 1 & 2, which are also both on Switch).
This time around the studio has delivered a top down action RPG, and one of its many strengths is the freedom and creativity it allows the player to wield. You have the ability to transform into various types of characters, and there are skill and levelling mechanics that let you find your way to play and advance. As is typical of the developer, too, the game has a terrific art style and plenty of humour. We'll leave the final word to our review's conclusion.
"Nobody Saves the World is a thrillingly well-paced and enjoyable action adventure that Switch owners won’t want to miss. An addictive quest system, surprisingly deep class system, attractive art style, and punchy combat all come together to make for a varied and engaging experience that oozes quality at every turn. If you’re a fan of RPGs with a lot of customization, old-school Zelda games, or classic arcade beat ‘em ups, Nobody Saves the World is absolutely a title you need to add to your library."
< Nintendo Life eShop Selects - March 2022
How we decide our eShop Selects top three: As we reach the end of every month, the Nintendo Life staff vote on their favourite titles from a list of games selected by the editorial team. To qualify for this list, these games must have been released as a digital-only Nintendo Switch eShop title in that particular month, and must have been reviewed on Nintendo Life; we select the qualifying games based on their review scores.
Staff are then asked to vote for three games that they think deserve to sit right at the very top of that list; first choice gets 3 points, second choice gets 2 points, and third choice gets 1 point. These votes are then tallied to create a top three list, with the overall winner taking that month's top prize.

I have been enjoying both Arise and Demon Turf from the runner-up list but I chose Arise for the poll. Arise is a super relaxing 3D puzzle platformer. A couple of the other honourable mentions are on my wishlist.
Stanley Paradox I think would be too scary for me. I just went back and read the reviews for Nobody Saves the World and Gotta Protectors, and although they look interesting, they're both a bit too weird for my taste.
For some reason I am basically never a fan of the top 3 in these monthly eshop select lists, but always am interested in a lot of the runner ups.
Stanley game is one of the few games where a YouTube playthrough is the same as actually playing it, and it saves you a nice chunk of change. Just gotta find one without an annoying ass streamer screaming into the mic to create false excitement non-stop, at least I think that might be possible?
Nobody Saves The World, Demon Turf "2" & Arise are good games. Stanley Parable is on my backlog. Gotta Protectors & Slipstream are on my wishlist. Good month
My vote goes to Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter
Nobody Saves the World is such a surprise! Really fun game. Reccomended, at least if you can play it coop.
@SteamEngenius I’ve failed to find that myself,so good luck.
Toodee and Topdee wins for me absolutely. It's a fresh concept executed cleverly.
Stanley Parable is the true classic here. Otherwise, April was a relatively weak month for Switch (and gaming in general, as looks to be the case for Q2 overall, but that’s ok because February and March were fantastic and Q3 and 4 look potentially outstanding as well).
Wish I could just play games in general. Right now I'm playing my PS1 (Parasite Eve II) in between 50 hour work weeks and only getting 10 hours of sleep on the weekends. (Total for the ENTIRE weekend. Not per day)
no game really
