The Pokémon Company has announced that Japanese Sword and Shield players will soon be able to get their hands on a shiny Zacian and Zamazenta for the very first time.
Previously, the shiny Zacian and Zamazenta rollout had only been confirmed for South Korea, where fans who pre-order Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl will be eligible to receive a code for the special Pokémon. With a Japanese distribution now also confirmed, there's certainly more hope that players all around the world will eventually be treated to the elusive pair, too.
For Japanese players, the distribution will be taking place at video game stores nationwide later this month. Fans will be required to take their Switch consoles in-store and show staff their home menu from 22nd October, showing off the icons for either Pokémon Sword or Shield. Then, staff will reward those players with codes that can be used to download either a shiny Zacian or a shiny Zamazenta.
Maybe if we all cross our fingers at the same time, The Pokémon Company will announce a western distribution, too. Ready? Go!

Wait a minute... that's just a regular Zacian!
Common GameStop....
Just distribute them online! Even if it's through a newsletter or something.
I don't understand why we need to go to the game store for it, and I don't think the staff understand either. They're always very confused...
I hope I can get a Zacian. I can't be bothered to gun for other legendaries, but I'm a sucker for having both cover Pokémon in one generation. I have Shield, in case it wasn't obvious.
@Kimyonaakuma The reason is to get you in a store so they have the opportunity to try to sell other items to you like preorders, trading cards, etc.
They don’t do these giveaways just to be nice. It is purely a marketing tactic.
Yeah I'm not going to a store, Switch in hand, to show the cashier that I do indeed own the Pokemon game
This is ridiculously foolish given the pandemic is on the rise yet again. Nobody should be going to a store just to get a Pokemon code. Especially since these codes don't require a purchase so the store gets nothing out of it other than another possible exposure. Nintendo should just have these be a Mystery Gift digital distribution and gamers get both Shinies just by logging on between certain dates and downloading. There, simple, and no unnecessary exposures. Save going out of your home for tasks that are ACTUALLY important.
@DarthFoxMcCloud What part of the world do you live in? The USA is currently experiencing a downward trend, not that that means it’s over, but it does signal that things might be getting better. But it’s foolish to believe that Covid is keeping people home. For example the Venom sequel just saw the highest box office numbers since the last Star Wars movie in 2019. Again, these Pokémon distributions are intended to get people in stores so they can sell more merch. They’re not giving shinies away just to be nice.
Guys relax, at least wait until we have confirmation that it's gonna be a store distribution.
I mean I agree those are annoying but we can at least wait for the confirmation before grabbing pitchforks.
Imagine living in South Korea and being forced to preorder an overpriced, inferior demake of a classic just to get a shiny in another inferior game.
This is a perfect reminder of why I have grown to greatly prefer the Series X over the Switch at this point. Nintendo's disguisting greed and shady business practices get worse all the time.
This is the only thing that would make me preorder
In-store code distributions need to be a thing of the past except in areas where internet access is poor.
@DarthFoxMcCloud People are filling Sports stadiums these days. Kind of too late about the ramifications of going to a GameStop.
Imagine having to go in-person to a store, and risk getting COVID, just to get a code for a few shines in a Pokemon game. Hard pass.
