If you end up getting a copy of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for Christmas, or if you're really not in the festive mood and have a copy already, you might want to spend a bit of time jumping into the game's next tournament event.
Starting on 25th December, a new Tourney called 'Dark Reunion' will be taking place in-game, exclusively featuring fighters "who have embraced the darkness" (thanks, Pure Nintendo). Naturally, this includes the game's latest character Sephiroth, so there's no better excuse to try your luck with a brand new fighter.
The tournament will run for three days in total, ending on the 28th; as always, the better you do in the tournament the better Spirits you'll receive as a reward.

“Embrace the darkness” is a missed opportunity to use Conquest Corrin- it’s in the lyrics of the games main theme!
(Embrace The Dark is also the title of chapter 6)

Wait, Luigi's not included in the available roster? You're telling me that guy's never sat alone in his room at night and embraced the shadow of his brother which he finds himself perpetually living under?
This is clearly an oversight on Nintendo's part.

I'm actually wondering. Aside from DLC characters, would the game automatically grant you the characters (temporarily) you don't have unlocked yet for these tournaments? I always had them unlocked since the first tournament I believe so I'm not sure.
@MakkaroniOni What's wrong? Bayonetta is a dark witch who fights the light in the shape of angels from the heaven.

There really aren’t enough villains to be honest. I always liked how Dissidia included both good and bad characters for every game in the series.

@the_beaver @MakkaroniOni it's also worth mentioning that "embracing the darkness" doesn't necessarily mean the character is "evil".
The Final Fantasy franchise itself has included stories about the balance of darkness and light, and how both sides have an equal potential for being destructive.
