Update: Square Enix has now revealed the game to be The Turing Test. Details of the announcement can be found here.
Original Article: Square Enix Collective, a division of the well-known Japanese publisher which provides funding and publishing services to indie developers, has teased a new Switch announcement for later this week.
The studio is remaining tight-lipped on what the announcement might be, but you can see the tease for yourself below. In this very Twitter thread, Square Enix Collective went on to explain that it publishes "super cool indie games", so expect more of the same when this announcement does eventually drop.
Up until now, the only Switch game already confirmed for release by the division is Circuit Superstars, a cool-looking top-down racing game that was shown off during E3 2019.
In the replies to Square Enix's tweet, fans are being quick to jump on the idea that this means a Nintendo Direct is happening. Let us remind you that, while that isn't completely out of the question, making a Switch-related announcement doesn't always mean that a Direct is about to happen. We'd happily consume an entire Direct right now just as much as the next person, but let's all remain calm.
So, any thoughts or hopes on what this could be? Fire away in the comments.

The Secret of Mana 2.5D remake, please.
"Square Enix Indie Division"? So it's a part of an entertainment giant that is somehow also independent?
When did we start calling all simpler games "indie"?
Apparently what they do is "service provider for Indie developers", so basically they remove the indie out of indie games, but they say they let the developers keep creative control, so that's good.
@Agriculture SE Collective is just a publisher that gives smaller individuals a chance to get their games published, that's all. They're not just smaller games, they're games made by individuals or groups of individuals that have little resources to get their games out there by themselves.
Octahedron on Switch was published by SE Collective and that was a one-man creation that also happened to be absolutely brilliant!
@Agriculture it’s not new most “indie” music is bands on major labels.
Indie? I wish it was something Tomb Raider related instead
In B4 new Pikachu game
Not gonna lie, aside from the ones already on Switch (which are mostly really good from what I've played), I don't think I've heard about any of those games so I'm not sure what I should be hoping for. Can never complain with having more indie games to choose from though.
@DarthNocturnal I can dream... x(
Tokyo Dark was one of those SE Collective game and it was a great game.
@Agriculture indie dev, major publisher. So yeah, not an "indie game" in normal sense (developed and published by a small developer / publisher) but still an indie game.
@BenAV The Turing Test is also a great game imo.
Kingdom Hearts is comming to SWITCH in all its glory. where it belongs. : D
A final fantasy spin-off with "the office" characters?
I sense a nindies.
@Agriculture They say a lot of things, if you believe it you might not be that smart.
@sanderev That's not an Indie game. That's just a major publisher paying a studio to make them a game.
Hopefully, as an indie developer, they will still get access to use the catalog of Squaresoft/Enix IPs. The fans have waited long enough, and it's time we finally got a sequel to The 3D Battles of World Runner. Expensive VR set up? No thanks. I've got my red/blue paper glasses right here.
Maybe the Indie is porting the Final Fantasy VII remake. Well one can dream right.
If it's not Simpsons Hit & Run, I'm gonna lose it!
(the emoticon = being silly)
@Shiryu Yes. Yes. Yes.
@danemord Ummm....I'm down!
Might be an announcement for the international release date of Space Invaders Invincible Collection.
Tbh I wasn't real impressed with their last few offerings. Like there's no reason oninaki should have been $50 at launch. However, I am looking forward to seeing what they have up their sleeves.
@GhostGeneration
That logo screamed more GameCube than WiiU to me.
Forgotton Anne was a great game. I want to try Children of Zodiarc at some point. Mildly interested in this announcement.
That logo screams SE Collective to me.
Because that's obviously a "C". For Collective.
Not a U.
@Shiryu I mean, it's TOTALLY not happening but we can live in dreamland until further notice.
I hope it's a cool RPG game with blood and gore and lasers and swords and mice and tigers and cute foxes and no grinding and spaceships and medieval wagons and beer. Make it so.
I was very confused thinking this was Tokyo RPG Factory. But nah.
Could be real neat though!
You have just been reported to the athourites @Woomy_NNYes for your comment on losing it.
(The Emoticon= Just kidding)
@DannyBoi No. Please no.
@CurryPowderKeg79 Somebody at work would regularly act like they're getting angry at friends about things we like, that aren't a real problem -for comedy. "My god. If I here one more thing about you going to Chic-Fil-A for lunch, I'm gonna lose it!". 😡😜
@fadedcolors I think if there was a nindies there would be absolute chaos.
@Dman10 Tomb Raider is kind of Indie Jones related so I'd say there's a chance.
Probably a meh game like i am setsuna or the other rpg i cannot remember. The tokyo rpg crap factory one
The last thing we need is another Direct entirely about Pokemon. We need a Direct about other games coming soon, because there's not much on the horizon right now.
Probably a VARIOUS DAYLIFE (Apple Arcade Game) port coming to Switch?
Act Raiser / Soul Blazer remakes? A REAL TERRANIGMA US relase?
...A Final Fantasy VI Remake?
Why yes, I am in my 30s. Why do you ask?
Square Enix: We can't be bothered to bring our best effort to Switch, so here's some Indie devs we sponsored.
I remembered there was an indie game supported by Square Enix Collective after their game scrapped due to no fund.
This game developed by Magnus Games, published by 505 Games.
The game i meant was Re:Legend.
The game has been released on Steam version last year.
Hopefully the console version (Switch, PS4, xbox One) will be next.
Final Fantasy Explorer's 2 please
@Shiryu Why would anyone want that terrible remake? It's a worse version of a great game that's already on the Switch in a better format with a collection. Also, beyond that, this is Square Enix Collective, which did not have anything to do with Secret of Mana, so it definitely can't be that.
@Agriculture It's not that at all. They find developers who've already made games or nearly finished them, then they highlight three or four of them to gauge fan interest, then they help publish the ones that people seem most interested in. Mostly they take a cut of potential profits for helping advertise them. They're definitely still just indie games.
@Deltath Ah yes, we have been down this path before... Please understand Secret of Mana is a very important title from my entire life as a gamer and I picked up the remake on STEAM day 1. I was not as offended as "the internet" and enjoyed my time with the game, but the more I played it, the more I wanted to play it properly on the Switch instead of PC. I still do in fact, and I hope that Square-Enix lets me one day. Video games are a universal language but even so extremely subjective. That is why my mech GOTY 2019 DAEMON X MACHINA was not even in the runners up for NL GOTY, it "merely" got a 7/10 in our review and I do understand some people consider it utter crap, but lile the Secret of Mana 2.5D remake I ended up enjoying my time with the game by a much wider margin than expected.
@Shiryu I appreciate your thoughtful responses and for something like Daemon X Machina, I totally understand. Everyone has different opinions on games. While I didn't buy it, I actually really enjoyed the demo and if I thought my fiancee or my friends would get it and play multiplayer with me, I would have gotten it day one.
However, the Secret of Mana remake seems like a pointless game. Hear me out. It's not horrible, to be honest. It's fine. But it's also not different from the SNES game. They didn't add any content. The mechanics, the controls, the gameplay are almost 100% the same as on the SNES. Other than a MILDLY remixed sound track, a worse menu, and arguably worse/inarguably PS2 era 3D visuals, it's the same exact game. Even many of the bugs and problems were recreated. It's not even a Crash Nitro Kart situation where that game was remade identically gameplay wise but with wildly improved graphics. For most, the charming 2D was better. And even if you like the late PS1/early PS2 visuals, they're not substantially different. Assuming you already own the Secret of Mana Collection, which comes with three great games for $40 (frequently marked down to $20), why pay $40 again for an extremely similar version of the same game on the same system AND one that you already own on PC? I'm not trying to antagonize. I actually really am curious. I've rebought some things on Switch a number of times for various reasons myself.
I hope they announce Battalion 1944 for switch!
@Deltath Same reason I did not get the Secret of Mana on Switch. I did get Daemon X Machina and I love that game. The hype was too much and the reality is that no one ever played an Armored Core game for the story. Daemon X Machina feels like a good Armored Core game to me.
@Deltath The explanatio0n is actually quite simple: I have lived my entire professional life sitting around PCs and servers, so as you might imagine I am not very keen in going home to enjoy some video games... by sitting in front of a PC, namely a game that intertwined in my mind as a Super Nintendo console exclusive. Video games consoles = bliss / PCs = work.
