Another day, another trailer for the upcoming Mortal Kombat 11. This time, three more characters have been confirmed to be playable.
The video, which you can check out for yourself above, focuses on the game's story. There's fantastical talk about a temporal crisis, the need for those from different eras to join forces, and mystical realms, but we also get a decent look at several characters which hadn't previously been shown off.
Erron Black, Cassie Cage, and Jacqui Briggs, all of whom debuted in 2015's Mortal Kombat X, are featured throughout the trailer and are now confirmed as being playable; we're even treated to a quick glimpse of each of their gruesome fatalities. We also stumbled across the full fatality clips for Cassie and Kano via GameSpot below (needless to say, expect some incredibly gory footage).
Of course, all footage shown here will be running on a console with more power than the Switch, but it'll be interesting to see how the portable version plays when it finally arrives next month.
Are you feeling hyped for this one? Let us know if you plan to grab a copy in the comments below.

Still curious as to why we haven't seen Switch gameplay yet. I'm confident in it so I haven't canceled my preorder, but it does make me wonder.
Glad to see Cassie and Erron Black are back.
Erron Black, Cassie Cage, and Jacqui Briggs...
Does anyone really care for these characters?
Could we change the bloody thumbnail? Bit too much gore for first thing in the morning
Edit:Bloody as in actual blood, not the British expression
Looking forward to this, haven't played a MK games in quite a few decades
Dear NetherRealm: Get over here and show some pure Switch footage already!
Probably one fatality...the other ones look like their desperation moves.
If Bayonetta actually makes it to the Switch version, I’ll do it. Right now I got it preordered my Scorpio. I find the violence hilarious in its over the top delivery.
I don’t mean to be “that” guy, but I happened to be browsing the website with my son (who is 7) who was slightly shocked at the covering image of this article and is now asking lots of questions about why that man was being killed.
So, Nintendo Life, please bear that in mind for the future.
<Dad mode: Off>
Edit: I think Movie Sonic just traumatised him more...
From what I've seen, each character seems to have a few drawn-out (5-10 second) animations that happen in most fights. I hope I've somehow got the wrong impression there because I reckon I'd get bored of those pretty quickly.
I'm here to suggest a different cover page thumbnail as well. Not what I was expecting to see when I came to check on nintendo news.
Probably is prudent to change the thumbnail, NL - I used this website to find reviews of DSiware games when I was a kid and I don't know that 10-12 year old me would have wanted to see a guy's eyeballs exploding or whatever the heck is going on there. There's a lot of reasonable parents who wouldn't want their kids seeing that either.
@Platinumhobo
There was footage in the last direct that had no detail or shadows, so I would guess that's what the Switch version is?
I do wonder if this game will hold up without top end graphics, as I always find MK to have very junky controls in comparison to SF or Tekken.
If Shao Khan is important to the story he shouldn't be a preorder bonus. He will be on the disc but you cannot access him. That practice has to stop.
I haven't finished 9 yet, X (XL actually)... I only unsealed it... and now 11 will be the current entry. I'm way overwhelmed by backlog... Especially with fighting games. I love them, but as I don't usually play them online, I take my time and now this is what happens.
Just wait for the inevitable Game of the Year/"Definitive" Edition. Warner Bros. Games hasn't released a game that didn't later bundle all the DLC together for a cheaper price yet.
It will be interesting to see how this runs on Switch... I'm guessing not great, but hopefully good enough for casual players.
The lack of proper d-pad on the JoyCon and the false inputs on the Pro controller could be a problem.
@Sabrewing
I would all but guarantee a GOTY edition during the holiday season for other consoles, but it seems much less likely for Switch... maybe digital only.
Would it kill GameXplain to talk about this game?
They said they would consider crossplay down the line. Switch has to be 60fps. No way a cross platform fighting game would work if it wasn't smooth across all versions.
I'm happy for the return of Erron Black but the two kids, not so much.
I'm very happy Erron Black and Cassie Cage are back. They better have Jacqui an interesting gameplay style to be fun compared to MKX
What's up with all these gun battles? Isn't Mortal Kombat supposed to be about martial arts?
I just want the horror movie characters back. They were great fun.
@Kienda
Nothing wrong with being "that guy". I understand. That thumbnail is unnecessary. If you click on an article about Mortal Kombat then you know you are probably in for seeing some gore. But this is just right there without much chance to avoid it.
@Baart Projectiles are nothing new to Mortal Kombat; they've had fireballs and energy balls since MK1.
@backup368 those are at least related to martial arts lore in some way. Adding guns just makes it generic. Like Shadow the Hedgehog.
I love that they gave Cassie a version of Johnny Cage's SNES MK1 fatality.
I wish there was a DLC where you could play as characters from Monty Python. Imagine playing as John Cleese from the Ministry of Silly Walks--just crazy leg kicking the crap out of everybody.
@J_C You must now be 18+ to enter this website!
Seriously, who ever chose the thumbnail should be talked you. I mean what's next... a porn thumbnail??
@subpopz I know, considered him to be a funny outlier / clown of the game like Johny Cage.
@Kal_el_0724 how about we didn't get offended at every thing. This isn't Disney World / Resetera.
@Baart Well Cassie Cage is an infantry unit, Erron Black is a cowboy, why would either of them use magic?
@Baart I don't get it either. Nintendo is gaming company NOT kid-gaming company. Sure they have things like Pokémon and Mario but still I do not associate Nintendo with kiddie stuff.
@backup368 I have no opinion on them, it's been a while since I played a Mortal Kombat game. But yeah, I don't like the way they chose to develop the world and yearn for ye olden days hehe.
@Baart Ok well I'm sorry. I didn't realize only adults come to this website. But even some adults don't like graphic content like what's depicted. But I'm happy you're find with it.
Nintendo is kid-friendly. Not kid-ONLY. Stop complaining about the thumbnail cover.
Cassie fatality with a heart sign made me cackle with cracking laughter in surprise! Brilliant! Good to see humour in gaming!
@Baart This first instance of guns in Mortal Kombat was 1995 with Stryker in Mortal Kombat 3.
Looking good in my opinion. Still not sure I am going to buy it yet
Love how everyone is upset about a violent image, but yet no one complained when the other post today is about high school visual novel that features inappropriate looking high school female characters.
@Syndrome actually, it is not about whether Nintendo is kid friendly or not. It is about this websites audience.
The imagery used is 18+ (or at least 15+) and yet it is displayed without warning on the home page of what is generally speaking a family friendly website.
Most websites display warnings before revealing such content or that content is hidden within an article and you choose whether you want to see it or not.
This website has been covering horror games and has many videos of this game with blood, guts and all. That is not the problem as the content is hidden within the page. They have even warned about it before and if I recall correctly we have even been warned by this site’s authors before seeing “risqué” content.
Some of us were simply advising against using such imagery on the home page without the option for people to avoid it.
@Dman10 I get your point, but personally speaking, whenever my son has seen a scantily clad lady he giggles about it or hardly notices.
When he sees gore or horror it upsets/disturbs him and can give him nightmares. And he can’t ignore it.
That’s the difference between the two. Things that shock people will get a stronger reaction and gore is generally more shocking than inappropriate cartoons.
The gaming industry appears to think the backwards on these things though by encouraging excessive gore while clamping down (or at least looking down) on sexualisation.
Konfirmation of new kharacters is always kool.
@Kienda I usually don't use my desk top when browsing gaming sites. That's my way around something.
After much dithering and on finding a sweet price at Base I've pre-ordered physical Mortal Kombat 11 on Switch. I reckon the Switch version will go down as a masterpiece of pushing the Switch to its limits. I'm sure this will be achieved partly by having dusty/foggy backgrounds like in Trials Rising but that doesn't bother me. I don't play fighting games to stare at the background! If the fighting mech is great and looks amazing and the sound and soundtrack is fantastic I'm sold.
I kould have ordered the Xbox version of Mortal Kombat but I reckon the Switch version being portable and sociable will end up more fun than the technically graphically slightly superior Xbox version. For than reason I reckon the Switch version will end up with better user ratings than the Xbox version. Switch wins!
Really, the only problem anyone is having in this comment section is a gory image being on the front page of the site without any warning. There's no need to be enlightened people looking down your noses at quaint Victorian morality - nobody is saying to censor anything.
Kienda is right on both counts: a warning is typical for websites and reasonable, and nudity has different psychological effects than gore.
Im fine with the gore thumbnail but i understand the reasons of the folks about his kids. And i realized NintendoLife changed the thumbnail, so thanks in his names.
@Trikeboy He's dead story wise, so O'd confidently bet that Shao Kahn is just a bonus and not a story character locked out as dlc.
@Platinumhobo Shao Kahn is clearly in the story trailer leading an army of bad guys.
