Following its closed-beta at launch, SMITE is now free-to-play on Switch and includes crossplay with PS4 and Xbox One players. Not only that, but players on other consoles can also pick up their game on Switch, with all progress and gear being shared across platforms.
The MOBA was always free-to-play elsewhere, but the Switch version was previously only accessible by purchasing the Founder’s Pack DLC which gave you immediate access to every god, plus a Switch-exclusive skin and some gems to spend as you please. Now, though, anyone can download the game and see if it tickles their fancy.
The Founder's Pack was a decent investment if you knew the game was for you, but now players who fancy dipping their toes into its multiplayer-online-battle-arena pool have nothing stopping them from nabbing it from the eShop immediately.
Check out our review if you're still on the fence - we said that "there’s a slow grind to earn skins via the Season Pass, but the game itself is one of the best entries in the genre and it’s right here on Switch – a cause for celebration and no mistake".
Have you been enjoying SMITE since launch? Is 'free' cheap enough to catch your eye, or have you got too many other games to play? Let us know if you'll be downloading this in the comments.

Paladins seems to be an okay TF2 style shooter, so I am willing to give it a go a few times.
points angrily at something he doesn't like SMIIIIIIIIITE!
...
Game seems fun. ^^; #TeamAthena #TeamArthur
I just tried it and after 4-6 minutes there still didn‘t start a single game. Waiting time in queue is 2minutes. Time was up, not enough players. Next 2 minutes, game started, everyone except one player chose their god, restart. In queue again. 2 minutes again. Not enough players again.
I uninstalled it already
@xpromisedx Was my experience in Beta as well. Reason why I didnt install it now. Sad
I've got this on ps4 with all the Gods unlocked but how do I carry over that progress onto the switch version?
33GB!? Wow. My SD card is crying right now.
@playstation_king You don't. Sony said no to the surprise of nobody.
Cross progression is just PC, X1, and Switch.
@mjharper not sure what you're talking about. the store just says around 8GB.
I've been playing this morning and finding matches in 30 seconds to a minute tops.
Maybe it's not the game and it's your connections?
So much misinformation and complaining about things that don't exist:
1. The game is not 33 GB.
2. The game connects super fast with other players.
We should do some "stop whining for no reason" free lessons here on NintendoLife.
If free Switch owners will download it.
I will just stay with the PS4 version instead since I don't really have room to download it on my switch.
As a fervant Smite player, I can only tell other people to get the game. It's a lot of fun and runs beautifully on Switch.
Hmmm. Having a blast with Arena of Valor at the moment.
How's Smite, compared with AoV?
Played it once... a looonnngg time ago on PS4, but didn't bother to learn any details back then and never played again...
@misterMike thanks for the info, the article isn't very clear as it says cross play with ps4 and xbox and can carry over progression from other consoles so thought that meant ps4 aswell
@misterMike I hear what you're saying. Though, for me they are both Switch games as I never played the mobile version of AoV, and never had a PC to play Smite on.
So in terms of Switch gameplay and Moba style, I was wondering on the how and what, since I very much enjoy AoV.
Just wondering on how the Freemium Smite is and all.
Already have Arena of Valor. But where's ROBLOX.
@mjharper
WOW 33 Gig!! I will give this a go and deleted it, unless it's really good.
I've never played the game before and the trailers are confusing what is the premise of the game
@Cosats
This is from the Nintendo UK site. I'm not sure if you were singling me out for "whining," but my "misinformation" is coming from a fairly legit source, so...
It's 8.2 GB btw... not sure why people are saying otherwise
@misterMike Paladins was most certainly not copied from Overwatch...do ya research
@playstation_king it only carries over with X-box and pc.
I have been enjoying some arena battles with my daughter. So if you guys are ever playing arena and there is a God running around smelling the flowers that would be my daughter. She is a work in progress.
Boring waste of time – the game has no character. It throws on you [removed] load of information, UI and UX is crap. Everything seems so generic. Do not bother with this.
It’s not horrible, but I find Paladins much more appealing.
In fact, that was my conclusion after trying it. It made me want to play some Paladins.
@Darknyht it is fun but when I played I had issues with game crashes at inopportune time during Ranked games. Good fun though when it works properly.
@Mrillustrates Paladins seems to have similar issues lately. I will keep that in mind. I was penalized yesterday as a deserter when the game itself just crashed out.
@Kulhy Please mind your language!
@Octane sure – sorry about that
@misterMike idk if you know about global agenda, the game paladins is a spiritual successor to, made by hi rez, but it lowkey came out years before overwatch was even considered. OW has a lot of characters that could almost be considered direct clones of GA characters. Please stop pushing this narrative lmao, it’s such old hat at this point. Paladins and OW are fundamentally different takes on hero shooters.
