Once again its your job to protect the Galactic Empire from an alien invasion using nothing but your trusty starfighter.
There were basically three Star Soldier releases for the PC Engine/Turbografx-16 system, not counting the cute 'em up spin-off Star Parodier. Two of those releases, Super Star Soldier and Soldier Blade, saw a release in the US...

Something which many thought would never happen is occurring today: Cho Aniki is being released in the US! Accompanying it is another TurboGrafx-16 import shooter: Final Soldier.

News TurboGrafx-16 Releases - September
It's the last Friday of the month, so Hudson has outlined their VC plans for next month. There appears to be a "game swap" of sorts taking place - The US is getting two games that Europe has had for a few months, while Europe is getting two games the US recently got!
The US can look forward to sampling the delights of two import shooters -...
News EU VC Releases - 2nd May - The Hanabi Festival Returns!
Europeans who have had their Wii for a while will no doubt remember last September - Nintendo of Europe introduced a special "Hanabi Festival" dedicated to give us import game goodness. With games such as Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Mario's Super Picross and Sin and Punishment becoming available to us for the first time ever, who could refuse? Certainly not us!
Well, it looks like Nintendo knows that we won't say no to imports, because today's update includes three games, all import titles, and all marked with the Hanabi Festival fireworks icon that the import titles last year were labelled w...
About The Game
A sci-fi top-down shooter, sequel to the Star Soldier games. Once again its your job to protect the Galactic Empire from an alien invasion using nothing but your trusty starfighter.
The game is divided in several stages in which enemies attack you in several waves until you reach the stage boss and proceed to the next one. Final Soldier incorporates four different gun pods mapped to each button, which can be fired independently or in conjunction. What you equip in each pod is up to you however as not only you get to select weapon loadouts between levels, but also shooting power-ups cycles to the available weapon types that you can incorporate mid-game.

How does this compare to the other Soldier games?
I haven't played it myself, but the general opinion is that it's the worst of the four Star Soldier games on TG (I'm not counting Star Parodier, but I am counting Blazing Lazers).
Yeah, this is certainly the weakest IMO. I know a lot of people love it but if you ask me it feels really poor compared to the other SS games, especially Soldier Blade.
3. a parodie of the star soldier series
I think this game is better than Super Star Soldier, but not quite as good as Soldier Blade. I do like the music in Final Soldier the best, though. Star Parodier is one of the best shooters ever made. Cute em' up or not. The soundtrack alone is worth the price of the game.
how hard is this game
Right before the final boss you get this wierd message:
Warning!!
Ultimate Enemy approching
Nice name for the last boss.
If you like shooters this is well worth getting. It is easier than the too tough Super Star Soldier and has better visuals. Not as good as Soldier Blade, yes, but few shooters reach that calibre.
Having been forced to try this game on emulation(they won't release it in the US for some reason, no matter how much I hope), I actually liked this game more than Soldier blade, the ability to choose the styles of the weapons really adds to the gameplay. Sure its no superattack like what Soldier Blade offers, but it's still brilliant, part of why Gradius III is my favorite horizontal shooter.
(waits patiently)
Hook a brother up
Thank G-D, it's finally coming to NA! I've been waiting forever for this game. Just a little longer...
It'd be nice to get this on Monday... I'd finally feel like the US was getting a somewhat steady flow of good games for a change.
Final Soldier is due out on the US VC on Monday, September 8. It's about time!
Do you have to restart a level when you die, or does Final Soldier let you respawn like Soldier Blade?
You respawn where you died.
Thats a relief
you can control this game like if its an extension of your body. this great!
Finally it has arrived! All that's left now is to wait for the day when I can actually get this
Edit: And that day is nigh!
Awesome game, glad I finally got a chance to play it. I really like the levels, especially the one with all the battleships. I agree that the visuals aren't spectacular, but still it does look nice, and some of the enemies look pretty cool. I really like the music in this game, as the tunes are nice to listen to, and some of them are pretty catchy. The power-ups are really cool too; more games should let you shoot your enemies with bubbles. All-in-all, I'm very satisfied with my purchase, and I can't wait to play it again!
Just finished playing through this game and I believe it's my favorite in the series. I especially like the ability to adjust weapon loads in between restarts. Five stars.
AhhhH! are you kidding? The music in tihs game is beautiful!
If you want a Hudson shooter that is actually not too tough to beat, then this is it. I love customizing the weapons. You can even shoot bubbles from your ship. That's hardcore!
Yeah, I definitely have to agree with Corbie, Final Soldier really does have the best music out of the entire Soldier series.
Damn, the second-to-last level in this game is hard!
