@acegibbo: The Big N history on one console, that'd be a real selling point to the nostalgia-driven masses.

@FTPinkRabbit: Once upon a time, maybe. But not now. So many people emulate Nintendo's back catalogue now days.

As for GameCube games coming to Wii U VC, don't count on it. Not now we know they are revealing the NX this year. Any plans for GameCube games will end up on there, if at all they even bother doing VC again. After this generation, and the lack of interest in getting the games out there, it wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo just abandoned the whole thing.

Ohhh and I just remembered, https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/wii_u_virtual_console/nint... Nintendo did cancel the trademark for Virtual Console at the beginning of last year.

I thought the answer to this question was pretty well established by now:

@FragRed: That's disheartening. I'll cling to the hope there's a replacement title in the works, but I'll admit emulators are becoming pretty prominent. Then again, with RBY topping the eshop sales last month for a week or two there's clearly a demand. It's just that a lot of folks would rather play rare or unattainable games like Melee, Pokemon XD, Mario RPG etc. I'll admit, I'm not planning on buying most of the old NES library though.

I wouldn't be surprised if something holding it back, like the way we had to save games via memory card. No other virtual console has once required a memory card. Or controller compatibility, even though we have the fightpad, there might be another barrier. If you for once think there shouldn't be an issue emulating it, remember that all the 3DS systems except for the NEW 3DS, weren't able to emulate SNES games due to the chip that processes VC & DS not being strong enough. Same with GBA, the special GBA & SNES virtual consoles for the 3DS didn't work like the rest of them. Google it I'm not finding an article for you. The N3DS has the proper processor chip, now it works like they intend it to. Or maybe it just boils down to that none of the GCN games have been emulated yet and they have to actually do it, where as a majority of the WiiU VC has been moved to the Wii before. Of course I always did think it would be weird that GCN arrives on the worst selling Nintendo console since VB/DD. As if the GCN didn't struggle enough, they'd push it out on an even more struggling system.
As for comparing it to N64, they barely released any for the Wii as it is, so if the WiiU gets too many more than we have now over time I'd be shocked. Not saying it's done, but if we got 5 more I'd be like wow. Thanks to stupid Konami, it seems like a lot of the VC died because there's no more Hudson Soft. Bomberman?!?!

Nah, the memory card has nothing to do with it, it's just a regular card with flash memory.

You can't just really discount that with other issues they've had by saying "nah it's just regular". LOL They've had too many simple issues they do nothing about for it not to still be a possibility.

But it isn't. It's literally a regular memory card. Any emulator can emulate a memory card.

I would imagine that it would require a LOT of horsepower to get Gamecube games running as they originally did, with all of the bells and whistles of VC functionality (off-TV play, save states etc.) whilst maintaining the game's original performance. We're now dealing with 1 or so gigabytes worth of ROMs here as opposed to only a handful of megabytes (if that!) of NES, SNES and N64 games.

I'm not sure if the Wii U would be capable of it unless the Gamecube hardware is somehow built into the system in a similar fashion to how the Wii firmware works on the Wii U. For whatever reason, Nintendo are insistent on full VC functionality for their legacy titles. I'd be happy if they were available at all, really. Save states are only useful for games WITHOUT in-built saving capability (or password-based progression) such as those in the NES/GB era. If Nintendo can get Gamecube games running (and saving) on Wii U natively, then I believe that is more than sufficient.

"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"

There's really nothing that's stopping GameCube games from being able to be on the Wii U e-shop except Nintendo themselves. It evens shows since many people proved that GameCube games can indeed run on the Wii U natively, just like the Wii games on the e-shop. (And GBA games on both the original and new 3DS). And none of them requires emulation.

Doesn't mean they run well

I don't want gamecube games on Wii U if I cannot use the gamecube controller. Sorry, but the analogue sticks have only slightly less dead zone than Xbox's and no analogue triggers. Monkey Ball would be a twitch fest.

Being able to run the game doesn't equate to the game running well, I've the GBA ambassador games on my 3DS and they do not run well. Likewise the Wii U may have Wii hardware in it, but it doesn't run all Wii games perfectly, I've found one so far that regularly freezes (Dragonball Z BT3) on the Wii U, whereas I can (and do) spend hours on it on the Wii (so it shouldn't be an issue with the disc).

@Yellowkoopa: It'd be necessary for most, wouldn't it, as the games required pressure sensors thw wii u lacks.

Probably because they can't even keep up with normal VC games. You want them to add another console?

@Pukentournament: Yes. The more the merrier. Because you just know we would get the big name Nintendo games first from the Gamecube if and when it ever comes to Virtual Console.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Pukentournament

The more the merrier if they were ever actually going to fill it up with games. Why add it as a tease just to give us maybe 1 or 2 games? Save it for the NX and spill it all out

Bass_X0

I'm in the U.K. and we regularly get two VC games a week. So yes, they are filling the VC up with games. It's just America that has sucky support for the service.

Europe isn't getting anything I'm jealous of. When I see your VC it's just a huge yawn, instead of a smaller yawn that we have. Everything that you once had that I wanted, we got anyway. I couldn't care less if they added GCN really, they'll probably skip over everything interesting and release the obvious games. Oh! Maybe they'll even release Twilight Princess because we've not played that 5 times now. JP is the only one to be jealous of.
