I want to like Kirby, I really do...but I just don't get any enjoyment out of the games. I basically had to force myself through canvas curse. I bought superstar ultra, but have only played it for about 15-30 minutes. Fortunately, my 5-year-old loves it...he has worked through almost the entire game. He also made it through 75-80% of canvas curse.
I also want to like Sonic, but no luck there either. I grew up on Nintendo from the NES on (although I had an Odyssey 2, an Atari 2600, and an Intellivision prior to the NES) while my younger brother was a Sega fan (Master System, Genesis, and Sega CD.) I always hated Sonic...never enjoyed it much. Now that Sonic games have been coming to Nintendo consoles, I've tried a few times to give them a shot...but still don't care for them. My 8-year-old OTOH can't get enough Sonic...the 5-year-old also to a lesser extent.

For me it would have to be megaman. I bought megaman 3 for VC cause everyone said it was so great, and I thought it would be good, but I didn't enjoy it one bit.
I don't care for Kirby or Sonic either, but I also don't particularly "want to like" them. I would like to like Final Fantasy. I like a few of them, but even those I don't regard nearly as highly as most do. There are so many titles, but I just find most of them tedious. I'm looking forward to XIII though. It looks very pretty at the least.
For now I'll have to give it to RE 4 and 5. Not for any if there are any faults the games themselves have. I KNOW they are good games, and I know they have sharp controls. But they both just challenge my way of thinking too much.
For instance, my way of thinking, when it comes to Survival horror, or zombie shooting, is to lay on the lead till everyone but me is dead. If I am in a room, where I am waiting for evac or support, I think "I need to stay in this room till they come" thus I fortify myself and shoot shoot shoot.
However its not like that in RE 4 and 5. Apparently you need to run from building to building, not staying put, you need to run more then shoot. Thats something I cannot get my head around.
It kills me inside because you have this badass character like Leon Kennedy, who in my hands, dies more often the Kenny in Southpark.
I'm just going to have to wait for my friend to come over to play RE5 with me.
I couldn't really get into Sonic, but at £20 for the Mega Collection I could afford not to. Most galling though is that I just can't get into/am totally rubbish at First Person Shooters generally. When you're round a friend's house it's always the back up if there's a divergence of opinion. When Double Dash came out on Gamecube I persuaded myself for a long time that it was good but after a while finally accepted that it really wasn't. I also really wanted to like Bomberman but couldn't manage it. It's as if you can see that a game is technically good, but that it's just not for you. I think when you're younger you can end up hating games that way if people keep telling you it's meant to be good. Oh well, enough from me.
Bomberman is all about multi-player. If you think that is fun, then you like Bomberman. The one-player mode has always been pretty awful, decent at best. I don't know why they even bother with it.
Blast and '94 would be the better options. I don't know what the DS one is like, but the fact that "Story" is in the title makes me skeptical. My favorite Bomberman games were the SNES and N64 ones though, which unfortunately aren't on VC.
I have very fond memories of playing MegaMan 2 & 3 for hours on end as a kid (never really liked the original, but beat 2 & 3 many times) so was very excited to download them on VC. I still like 2, but don't remember 3 being so flippin' hard. I was ready to pull my hair out and haven't started it back up since. I also downloaded the original and was able to get through the robot masters without too much difficulty (I think I could only beat scissor man as a kid) but got stuck somewhere in Wily's castle (the section with moving, shooting platforms between insta-kill spikes on the floor and ceiling.)

I can't get into FPS games in general, sport simulators, realistic racers and Guitar Hero/Rock Band T_T I remember not liking Sonic games sometime ago, but now I'm really enjoying the Genesis and Master System titles. Also, I'm not really a Metroid fan. Corruption is fantastic, but I just never finished it.
You don't like shooters? Well anyway, I could never get into Final Fantasy, always hated RPGs. I can't get into Megaman either.
Metroid can hardly be considered a shooter half of them can't be, but one is a shooter. I don't dislike Metroid I just don't care about them enough to playthrough.
Halo, I have a friend who is nearly obessed with this game. He talks about it every day. I like the series but I for some reason never got into it, I know its great but I don't know why

But I don't really care much for shooters either.
You know the Metroids involve shooting multiple weapons at alien enemies on an adventure with extremely intense boss battles (that involved shooting) that are memorable to this day.
Oh, and the FPSs don`t count either since well you know it`s Metroid.
FYI if the 2-D sidescrolling Metroids are not considered shooters then neither is Contra nor Gunstar Heroes

Except Metroid is more of an exploration/adventure series, shooting things isn't a primary objective. Zelda games have fair amounts of combat, but I don't think I've ever seen them classified as hack n' slashes.
i WANT to like final fantasy and gears of war...and house of dead as well...oh well, i guess ill stick with mario and sonic and kirby and...kingdom hearts and...
I agree about Advance Wars for the same reason as Fire Emblem.
For me I really wanted to get into the Fire Emblem series seeing as though I love most things Nintendo and everything was great at first but there is just so much text to read that I eventually gave up.
I agree completely KS. I never understood why people like these Fisher Price guitars. I do love my SingStar though. It's a shame Nintendo doesn't seem to have a similar franchise on Wii, though I suppose I could get Rock Band with just the mic.
