Topic: Nintendo's psychic reading and MORE!

For some strange reason, Destructoid seems to have felt the need to call in a PSYCHIC for this year's E3 predictions. I learned of this from a post on Earthbound Central because one of the things she predicted was Mother 3 on DS (not one of the predictions lending her credence). Her readings for Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony as companies seemed eerily spot-on to me for a woman who supposedly wouldn't know all that stuff beforehand. Overall, I'd call it a very interesting read that should probably be taken with a block of salt. I'm not the kind of guy who naturally believes in this kind of stuff anyway, but I thought it would be an interesting discussion piece. So here's the link, and post what you think!

Hehe! That reading describes Nintendo TOO well to not mean anything. I fully expect Nintendo's E3 showing this year to be an improvement but it won't be the "comeback" for the company that we are all hoping for. That said I'd like to make my own Wii related predictions if I may:

  • Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus will be the highlights of Nintendo's Wii software line up, at least the company will present them that way.
  • There will either be a new mainline Mario or Zelda game shown for Wii but not both. The other franchise will be mentioned as (still) being in development. I'm leaning towards it being Mario (a Galaxy based sequel of course) that's shown due to the fact that Spirit Tracks was revealed only two months ago and Nintendo wouldn't want people to overlook it anticipating a Wii version.
  • Pikmin 3 will be shown, and a New Play Control: Pikmin 2 North American release date will be announced within the same section of the presentation.
  • Nintendo will NOT announce North American release dates for Disaster, Another Code R and Fatal Frame.
  • Nintendo will announce North American release dates (or vague time periods) for Endless Ocean 2 and Sin and Punishment 2.

A couple of notes;
First, Wii Fit Plus is likely to be that "huge" game that Nintendo warned retailers to save space for this holiday season, so prepare to be disappointed on that front, at least if you're not a fan of Wii Fit anyway.
Second, I have no faith Nintendo will be the show stoppers they use to be at this conference and I don't think any of you should get your hopes TOO high. Assuming you keep your anticipation in check, though, I think you just might be happy with the fairly conservative showing Nintendo will likely have this year.

A Mario Galaxy sequel would be welcome, but considering we haven't had a Wii-exclusive Zelda yet and it has been longer since the last Zelda, I think that is more likely to be announced. Perhaps it'll feature some Spirit Tracks connectivity to justify releasing both in the same year? Personally, I doubt a Mario or Zelda will be announced for this year on Wii.

@Adam

The reason I think Mario over Zelda is because the engine is already there, as well as many of the games concepts, as stated by Miyamoto when discussing ideas he wanted to impliment but were ultimately not used in the original Mario Galaxy, due to time restraints. Considering that, and the fact Nintendo needs a heavy core franchise hitter this holiday season (Sin and Punishment doesn't really count as it's a fairly obscure series by comparison), I think a Super Mario Galaxy sequel could very likely be shown. I'd like to note that last year it was Animal Crossing but this was a huge miscalculation by the company considering how derivative that game was.
A from the ground up Wii Zelda, however, will likely take a great deal longer to develope because Nintendo seems pretty dedicated to revitalizing the series with innovative new features. What those will be (I'm putting my money on some kind of Motion Plus compatibility) is anyones guess but I think fans will be pleasantly surprised. Obviously they can't do that on the Twilight Princess engine alone, not as it is right now at least.
Normally I would agree with you that niether will be shown but the fact that Nintendo made a point to mention them at last years presser, makes me think that they wanted to make sure we'd see these efforts sooner than later and I'm sure BOTH those games are within the companies top priorities right now. No matter what happens next week should be very interesting.

They have been mentioning both forever though. Right from the start Miyamoto was saying there is a new Mario, Zelda, and Pikmin being worked on. Pikmin is the only one not to have any representation (lest we count NPCs), so that is more likely than the others. I think it'd be a mistake to ignore so many other Nintendo franchises in favor of returning to one already made on Wii, especially if it's a direct sequel. People will think they're out of ideas, not a good impression to give at E3.

Well, she was certainly right about the sequels, wasn't she? Not right about Mother 3, though (big surprise).

Rapadash6 was more or less spot-on except for the third listing, which was sadly totally wrong. Pikmin 3 was barely even mentioned, and we STILL don't know when (or if) we're getting NPC Pikmin 2!

I almost passed out in excitement when Reggie introduced Golden Sun DS because I thought he was going to announce Mother 3. It was the only Nintendo RPG I could think of that was long overdue a sequel, which is how he introduced it. You'd think I'd have given up hope by now.

Yeah, I would. I mean, I have. I told you already that I knew he wasn't leading up to Mother first thing he said "six years." Golden Sun is excellent in its own right, however, and is certainly worth looking forward to.

Yes, you did tell me that already. You're so smart.

Well, I told YOU that, but posted it here on the off-chance that anybody else comes along, reads it, and gives a rodent's rear end. Not likely, but whatever.

I sure hope no one gives me a rodent's rear end. I didn't ask for this.

The yes/no questions were obviously boloony, but the reading of the cards has been quite precise until now.

@Adam
I also thought about Mother at that moment, I was so exited I missed when he said "six years" , oh well Stuff is right Golden Sun is a great franchise, I'm ready to meet Isack one more time .
