Downloadable games on the DSi is the reason why I'm waiting to buy one. I don't expect console games to appear on the DSi but handheld games are certainly a possibility. Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket Color and possibly even the Atari Lynx - support for these handhelds would be great and is something that should come to the DSi. Perhaps Nintendo is gaining support from companies before they go ahead with it.
As it stands without a "Virtual Handheld" service, the DSi doesn't appeal to me that much. I have very little interest in DSiWare and the other features would be nice to have but aren't essential to make me buy a new DS.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!
I'm still waiting for a good reason to buy a DSi. One would be some cool DSi exclusive feature for Zelda Spirit Tracks, like a multiplayer level editor, and another one would be downloadable games worth getting. A Virtual Handheld would be a big step in the right direction. And with the Game & Watch series Nintendo has proven, that they are interested in releasing classic games on the DSi. But it's not like my life depends on it, so only a 9. ^^

Somewhere around a 47.9384. I won't even consider getting one until they put a Virtual Handheld on the thing. My DS Phat works perfectly, and I can still play all my great GBA games on the thing. I'm not trashing my Phat without good reason, and the DSi is not a good enough reason yet.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
This depends on the perspective. The DSi does not really need a Virtual Handheld to boost sales (due to the new features of the DSi, especially with the casuals.), yet would be excellent in getting the more dedicated gamers in getting a DSi (especially those who already have earlier models). A Virtual Handheld is necessary for those who want to play original GameBoy games (or see Pokémon Stadium in Virtual Console), and ABSOLUTELY necessary if we are EVER going to see GBA (or Virtual Boy, I so dare) games in the DSi (ESPECIALLY Mother 3!).
