Topic: Will Forcing My Wii U To Shutdown Brick It?

So i've been having a lot of issues with my Wii U freezing since i got it back in september, i called Nintendo Support and they told me it was probably my Internet speed which was 6 mbps, i decided to upgrade my speed to 18 mbps and since then i haven't had any freezes till today, it was about 1 week since my last freeze that this happened today, but that brings me to my question "Can forcing my wii u to shutdown by holding the power button brick it?" I've forced it to shutdown so many times that I'm scared that its going to break :/ i take really good care of my consoles and I get so worried when things happen to them lol

As long as you won't unplug it, it will be ok. There is a small chance of bricking, but you have nothing to fear about that much. Maybe just dust it off or something, maybe it's overheating

It's unlikely that would brick your console. I've had to pull the power cord on my 360 I don't know how many times over the years because the the system will lock up and not even pressing/holding down the power will shut it off and it's never bricked. I had to do that to the Wii U a couple of times shortly after it came out and it didn't hurt it. Thankfully Nintendo has improved the OS since then and I've not had anymore lock-ups.

in most cases(be they consoles or PC) all you gotta do is make sure there's no kind of important data being transfered. I don't know much about the WiiU(don't have one) but NEVER NEVER force shutdown in the middle of an update. just remember this and the chances of bricking will be low

Maybe it'd be better as a brick.

I'd look into the heat issue - is the wii-u hot when it shuts down, and if so, is it being kept in an enclosed space where the air it vents comes back to reheat it? No expert, but Dave24's suggestion makes sense.

No its not hot when ever it shuts down, it usually happens when I'm playing COD GHOST or COD BLACK OPS 2, before it would freeze when ever i would play online, and i figured it was a problem with my internet speed so i increased it, it hasn't frozen yet while playing multiplayer but it froze today while i was moving through the menus really quick, it just froze and started making this buzzing noise, and its not in an enclosed space it has an entire shelf for its self!

If COD then it is to be expected, because this game is unoptimized, so it crashes sadly.
Is this buzzing coming from the console?

It shouldn't be that way, and I'm sure it is not because of the internet connection. Does it sound like the fans are working faster? If you have warranty, then use it and call them to fix it

Almost all electronics are the same. Unless they are performing something like a firmware upgrade, forcing it off or unplugging it will not brick it. The best thing to do with almost all electronics in the case of a freeze or malfunction is to power off in some manner and then unplug for at least 10 seconds. This is how long it takes the power to dissipate from memory and circuitry which could be corrupted in some manner. You problem sounds like a potential hardware issue, as you are getting a sound from the Wii U console itself.

The only thing I know of that could make a buzzing sound from the Wii U would be a disc in the drive or the fan. The hard drive is SSD, so no moving parts.

I hope you get it figured out soon and when you do, please post your resolution for others.

The CoD games on Wii U are basically guaranteed to freeze at least once out of the times you play it. Your best bet is making sure your router is up to date.

I have 9mb/s and nothing ever freezes. I've had feezes, but not that many. The last time my Wii U froze was back in February in Lego City, unless you count CoD Ghosts(I know where it freezes, and it's not the Wii U's fault).
