By reading the first impressions of nintendo land, they talk a lot about players using the Wii nunchuks. especially the zelda game where you need to use the wiimote to make sword moves like in zelda skyward sword.
My concern is this: is it obligatory to use a nunchuk on the WiiU, or will the wii gamepad pro do the job. (especially for nintendoland)
to put it simply, i dont own a Wii, never had a nunchuk and dont plan to buy those expansive controllers. I hate motion control games, im a standard gamepad fan. I planned to buy a premium system at launch with nintendoland, and a gamepad or 2 so i can play with my daughters and girlfriend. The only reason I would buy the nunchuk thing would be to play older Wii games that seem worth it, and require that gamepad.
if the WiiU can use regular gamepads for other players, that would be perfect. elseway i might reconsider buying the premium version and go for the basic one, and not get nintendoland. which is a shame since that game looks PERFECT for my family.
I'd suggest getting a WiiMote + Nunchuck and a Pro Controller. I would guess that a lot of games will still support the WiiMote even if there is full support for the Pro Controller. If you want to play some Nintendo Land and also Super Mario Bros or whatever then that'd be your best option.

"Don't stir the pot" is a nice way of saying "they're too dumb to reason with"
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
Literally no games are going to be out at launch where you can even use more than one gamepad. As such Nintendo isn't selling Gamepads until a game that uses two comes out. For multiplayer, you will need a wiimote and nunchuck. And if you watch videos of the gameplay in Nintendo Land, you'll see motion control is a lot more than just waggle... there's no way you couldn't have fun!
hmmm yeah maybe.
by gamepad i meant the pro controller thing that looks like the xbox pad. not a second tablet.
When I said I would probably get a regular version instead of the premium, its was because i wouldnt get nintendoland if the only option for second players would be nunchuk.
anyway, skywake has a point. maybe ill get a procontroller AND a nunchuk. maybe i will even go to 2 nunchuk. i have a large family, we need lots of gamepads
but those nunchuk cost a lot. 80 dollars without taxes for nunchuk and wiimote... this is mainlky why i would prefer gamepad pro at 49,99
It really depends on what sort of games you're more likely to get 4 (5?) people around the TV at once for. If it's going to be games like New SMB, Rayman and later on Mario Kart it probably won't matter too much which combination you get as long as you have enough. If it's going to be Smash Bros and CoD then it's probably better to lean towards the Pro Controllers a bit more. If it's more likely you'll be playing Nintendo Land endlessly and maybe picking up a bunch of Wii games then the WiiMotes are probably the better bet.
So as I said, get one of each and test the waters a bit. If you find later on that you really want more WiiMotes then go with that, if it's Pro Controllers then go the other way.

smash bros is ESSENTIAL and perhaps the main reason why im getting a WiiU. been addicted to Melee for years! still played when the ps3 was out.
but playing older Wii games is also very important, as I never owned a Wii so i missed a couple of worthy titles. (mario galaxies, paper mario, zelda and xenoblade chronicles) luckily, i have friend who owne the Wii so ill be able to play lots of Wii games without having to buy them :-3
also, im getting pikmin 3 at launch. i checked the gameplay video this morning, and I must say the wiimote and nunchuk will be very interesting with it, so ill get the WiiU premium, a wiimote and pikmin. might skip the wiipad pro until i feel like its essential.

thanks for your advices everyone
Pikmin 3 won't be there day one. It'll be there soon though, so I'd get the Wii U and launch since they're selling out already.

Why isn't Pikmin 3 ready for launch? I thought it has been in development forever and just ported it from the wii to wii u
Because it isn't done? It was never confirmed it was completed on the Wii, nevermind there's a bit more involved than just porting it when putting on a totally new console...
Unless you're having parties though you really only need one remote plus+nunchuk if you're not planning on getting any multiplayer Wii games and that's just for asymmetric multiplayer. I should also think you could get them second-hand pretty easily which should reduce the cost.
well i have a big family. 4 daughters, my girlfriend and me. thats a load of people who will want to play!
but things arent looking good, nopreorders available for the premium version, and no way in hell i will get the basic one. looks like my answer is to wait for the next shipment after xmas.
