Hi, I have just purchased a Wii U and I would also like to play some old Wii games. As someone who's used to only using a single controller, I am finding the numerous controllers for the Wii/Wii U a bit overwhelming.
So my question is, does the OLD Wii's Pro controller connect to the NEW Wii U Remote Plus? I'd like to be able to play some older Wii games and Virtual Console games and need to know which remote I should purchase.
Wii U doesn't have a Plus, lol...anyways the Classic Controller Pro only connects to a Wii Remote/Remote Plus. Doesn't work with the GamePad, the pad actually turns off when the Wii U enters Wii Mode. So you need an actual Wii Remote/Plus in order to play Wii games.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, the GamePad shutting off during Wii Mode also applies to the Wii U Pro Controller as well. (honestly they should update the system to allow this...especially with VC games)
To clear it up: The new remotes being sold next to the console are the same as the classic Wii remotes, despite having a Wii U logo on them. So yes, the classic controller pro for the Wii will connect to them.

Yep. It says Wii on the remote itself and on the box, so there's your indicator. They are just marketing it as a Wii U controller because it can be used for the Wii U.
It seems to have the 'Plus' extension built in, neat!
Yes it will work with the Wii Remote plus. I know buying a lot of controller sucks...I think I spent almost as much money on controllers as I did on my Wii U.
When I had my Wii, I had two Wii remotes, two nunchucks, two gamecube controllers, and two classic controllers (one pro, one normal)
When I got my Wii U, I bought four more Wii Remotes w/wii remote plus inside because I couldn't find the attachment..plus I didn't really want it anyway! I also bought two pro controllers (well one came with my Wii U ZombiU bundle, so I only bought one), to make up for the lack of Gamecube ports.
So now I have a total of 15 controllers that I can use with my Wii U (well 11 if you don't count nunchucks), and two extra Gamecube controllers lying around for when I use my Wii.

I believe that all Wiimotes now have the Plus built into them and have for awhile now.
