Hi everyone considering buying one of these, but a bit hesitant without having handled one myself.

Looking for reviews from those who have one.

I'm a bit sceptical about the anolog above the buttons, seems a bit strange, not optimal and perhaps designed specifically to differentiate from xbox/ps pads.

Could anyone give me an honest review, preferably in direct coparison to a ps3/xbox pad.

how does it feel? awkard to use? hurts hands? difficult to control?

thanks to all who reply.

It's the only controller I use with the Wii-U, unless gamepad controls are forced on me.

I have owned a 360 since 2007 and the pro control is just as comfortable, if not more so, than that one. It is much lighter, a bit slimmer, has a better D-pad and the battery life is ridiculous! I bought it in August, and have only charged it once after charging it the day it was bought.

For the first hour or so the button and analog stick placement felt odd, but now it's second nature and I don't even notice it anymore. A very underrated controller, and one you should own if you prefer normal/non-gimmick controls.

I can only compare it to the xbox controller and in my opinion it's much more comfortable. I can confirm what @FutureAlphaMale have said. Excellent battery life and very comfortable in the hand. The only thing I can add is that the weight and balance of the whole controller is very good. I also use this controller all the time unless gamepad use is forced upon me.

A pro controller is essentially a gamepad controller without the display. Same button layout & functionality. The feel is slightly better cuz it's lighter than the gamepad.

Thanks for the responses, what I wanted to hear i guess.

Could anyone elaborate on the buttons being below the right analogue though? This seems very odd to me and like it may be awkward to use?

Of course preferences differ, but I like the "Pro"-analog placement the most of the big three. It feels very natural when playing, say FPS, or anything that uses mainly 2xsticks and shoulder buttons. Even if the buttons are used actively, you don't have to spread your thumbs too far apart.

I recommend getting one if you often play MP locally or just want to use something lighter than the Gamepad.

Currently on the plate:
Mount and Blade: Warband – Napoleonic Wars
Chivalry
Super Mario 3D World – Finishing the last few levels.
Mario Kart 8

After a little bit of use it feels normal. I don't even notice it anymore. The first 30 mins or so feel odd though, as my thumb would instinctively go to where the buttons on a 360 would be.

I bought my control without having touched one before either, and I was not disappointed.

IMO, the best traditional controller Nintendo has ever made. Ferris Bueller says, "It's so choice. I highly recommend picking one up if you have the means."

I personally think the Pro Controller has the best analog stick placement of any controller on the market. I'm not a fan of the staggered design on the 360, and it doesn't require your thumbs to stretch so far like the Dualshock 3.

As I mentioned earlier, I think it's a great controller.
The only thing I miss compared to the xbox controller are the analog trigger buttons at the back. In racing games this allows you to control your throttle and brake input as you see fit but with the Pro Controller it's like all the other (clicky) buttons, either on or off.

I didn't know about this controller untill this thread, I think I will definitely have to get one or two of these.

It is depend on the game. I rather use Gamecube or Xbox 360 controller for 3D games like 3D world, 3D levels, 3D movement, and etc. I prefer PS3 or Classic Controller for 2D games. First I got the Wii U Pro controller and I was a bit worried that I probably find it discomfort. I really love it for SNES games and I did try the controller for Wind Waker HD and I find it better than gamepad itself. I use the gamepad for NES games since the controller is bigger for me. To be fair, Wind Waker HD have a bit different control scheme compared to original Wind Waker on Gamecube.

Umm… Care to have some gravy?

I don't really see any reason to have one unless you plan on playing with others. It's a good controller with 80 hours battery life(with rumble off, I think).

If all you play is single player, I don't see why someone would need one. It's basically a GamePad without the 9-axis, touch screen, NFC, built in camera, sensor bar, bottom port, IR blaster, speakers, stand thread, volume thing, and headphone jack.

Having used the Classic Controller Pro for Tri on the Wii, it felt awkward for a few days when playing Ultimate, but I got used to it soon...Not much else to say really.

I don't really like the classic controller pro for wii. Feels cheap and kind of weird, but I love the Wii U pro controller! It's definitely worth it. I actually like the stick placement (at least better that the playstation 3), but if you prefer the Xbox's layout, Nyko made a controller just for those people! I have both, and there are definitely things better about the Nyko one. Overall, though, I think you should get the Nintendo one! Try them both out if you can, though!

I like it much more than the DualShock 3 at least. It's pretty comfy, and the button/analogue placement hasn't really been noticeable despite thinking it looked weird when I first got it. It feels a bit light, but only in the start really.

Can't say how it compares to the Xbox controller, I haven't handled one of those since 2007 at a friend's house, if i remember correctly.

I like it a lot, but honestly, I'd rather have a GC-controller with two analogues and a better D-pad.

I just bought a wii u and I'm planning to buy a wii u pro controller for my 2 playmates. Can I run 2 pro controller + 1 gamepad regardless of any local multiplayer?

In addition to the Gamepad you can have 4 Pro controllers or Wii Remotes connected.
