Topic: Wii U audio issues

Hello,

I have seen similar posts to this but none address the issue.

Right, I have my Wii U connected to my non-HDMI monitor via a DVI-HDMI adapter. The problem is of course that there is no sound.

I have heard people say that they have been able to get sound through the use of rca cables. I have no idea how to do this. And, playing Wind Waker without sound is not desirable lol

Hope someone can help me out.

Have you checked the sound on the wii U? I know that if you set the sound to surround some PART of the audio (never heard of all audio disepear though)

Pokemon X
Bravely Default
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. The thing is that DVI is not able to carry sound. But, I don't know how to connect the Wii U to a speaker system.

I would not have a problem if Nintendo did not separate the audio streams for WW. I can only hear the sound from the gamepad and not the monitor.

the only thing I can think of doing since your already going from HDMI to DVI is to use the headphone jack and maybe plug some computer speakers into it. But thats really going to depend on whether or not you want to use the game pad as you wont be going to far with speakers attached to it lol. I believe in another post, it was mentioned that the Wii U wont support dual out. Meaning that if your using the HDMI you cant use the component cables to use the left and right audio. So Im guessing the only other option to use is the gamepad as your audio source.

@sofaking
You can use component/composite for audio since the latest update on Sept. 30th.

This sounds promising. How exactly do I use that to get sound?

Thanks

You always could do that since the Wii U launched using the composite/component Wii cables.

Of course that is only if your monitor has the proper inputs.

Sorry for all the posts. But having no sound on Wind Waker is driving me nuts lol

My monitor has no audio out. Can I connect those audio cables to my pc speakers somehow?

You need red and white inputs on an audio device. Use the HDMI for video in the system settings, then go to audio and press X(or touch the option in the top right corner) and choose non-HDMI as your audio output cable.

You still need inputs for those cables, and it will limit you to stereo vs. 5.1 PCM via HDMI.

Or you can find a splitter with a headphone jack/fiber optic and do that. You will also be limited to stereo in that setup, except for Dolby Pro Logic II on Wii games, I presume.

Thank you for the answer. Sounds like you know your stuff.

I bought a set of Logitech Z323 Speakers with a subwoofer: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002L3TSMU/ref=oh_details_...
Along with a set of Wii RCA cables to plug into the subwoofer. Is there anything else I need to get sound through the speakers?

EDIT: I looked at the link. That should work just fine for a 2.1 setup.

Just to give everyone the heads up, this solution works. Wind Waker HD with sound... at last
