Honestly, i am a pretty negative person when it comes to video games and the wii u is awesome. They're a few flaws, like the one mentioned above and nintendo land not having an online multiplayer, but there arent as many as i would have thought. The gamepad truely amazing. I havent touched my ipad since i got it. Its a tablet. It would be awesome if it could work away from the wii u, but thats just getting picky. I am eagerly awating there updates and hopefully a lot of apps come to nintendo eshop. I would love some free app games to be able to play on my gamepad.
Yeah, if you want that sort of functionality the Wii U isn't the device for it. If it gets Skype support down the road then things will change but 'till then it's not going to happen. Don't hold your breath for Skype either.
That said if I wanted to do video chat I'd just use skype on my TV anyway. Or pick up my iPad/iPod Touch/Smartphone/Laptop/Netbook and sit it on the coffeetable next to my TV and load up skype.... or bring the gamepad to my desktop... it's not like there is a shortage of options
Some playlists: Top All Time Songs, Top Last Year
"Don't stir the pot" is a nice way of saying "they're too dumb to reason with"

Well, la de da, Mr. Richpants. Not everyone has a million devices that are capable of skype or video messaging.

Wasn't bragging was just showing how many devices already have this sort of functionality. All of those things I mentioned, besides the iPad, are a good two to three years old at least. I doubt someone wanting to make video calls to an iPhone over their broadband connection via their launch day WiiU doesn't have at least a laptop with a webcam somewhere in their house. If they don't have at least one device like that then their priorities are wrong.

I have an ipad, laptop and a desktop, but that doesnt mean they should exclude a feature because another device already does it. They want to revolutionize gaming and online as a whole, i believe this feature would help them to achieve their goal. Imagine if every company thought like that. "Oh Microsoft already has an operating system, lets not make one." - Steve jobs.. Not.
Read my whole post not just the part DudeSean quoted to make a point which ignored the point of my post. As I said it's not a feature it supports and future support isn't something you should expect. If it does get it eventually it will be with Skype most probably but I thought the same of the 3DS and it still doesn't have it. So if you really feel the need to make video calls outside of the Wii U proprietary video calling service use one of your other devices.
and no, I'm not saying they shouldn't do it because it would be a bad idea. I'd love to see either Skype or something as widely supported as Skype on the Wii U. What I'm saying is that it doesn't do it and that it's not something we should expect to see happen given nothing has been said. At this point in time your best option is to use some other device instead. Run a Google Talk chat through Linux on some obscure piece of hardware if you must but realise there's a lot of options out there that allow you to do this even if Nintendo stubbornly refuses.
It's like the complaint that the Wii lacked DVD playback. Who cares? Didn't people have enough spare DVD players already?
Its pretty irritating. These little things are adding up. Not that im saying this system isnt awesome... Dvd playback and video chat cross device shouldnt just be thrown out of the window just because theyre easy to access. What i love about the ps3 and 360 is how they can act as the only entertainment device that you need. With both the wii u and wii you have to have another device. No reason to argue though, I was just trying to see if it had the feature of cross device. I facetime with my girlfriend during her lunch breaks at work and i was using my gamepad at the time lol. Would be cool to recieve a call while play Mario on my video game system.
