The 2 big names in the new "Toys-To-Life" genre where you collect real life toys that can be used with video games to play as characters and give them power ups has reached that time of year again where the next installments are to be revealed!

First off, the new kid on the block, Disney Infinity which first launched last year is preparing to reveal "Disney Infinity 2.0" which we're still not sure is a new game entirely or some sort of expansion pack.

But what makes this new version so special? Easy. MARVEL

Disney will be discussion Disney Infinity 2.0 on April 30th!

And so, the big competitor, Activision, decides to rain on Disney's parade by giving us this:

That's right, the next Skylanders game will be revealed in NYC on April 23th! BEFORE Disney Infinity 2.0!

So the competition between the 2 games continues to get continuously intense! As a fan of Skylanders I can't wait to see what the next installment will look like and what exciting new Skylanders we'll see! And as a soon to be Disney Infinity fan I'm anxious to know what other Marvel characters we'll see and what exactly will make this "2.0 Edition" so special.

The toys-to-life genre continues to grow as "The Prodigy" is coming along greatly, and is set to release on consoles like Wii U sometime in the future, but for now, they're focused solely on PC.

And let's not forget that even Nintendo has plans to reveal new games that will make use of the Wii U's NFC technology this E3!

This is becoming a big year for toy based games, and at this rate you'll simply HAVE to pick sides and stick with 1 or 2 games only as this will get very expensive very quickly if you try to collect them all! What are you looking forward to?

I totally would have been all over this, like 10 years ago. Yu-gi-go! or Pokemon seem like no brainers for this sort of thing.

I'm not particularly interested in any of these(borderline interested in DI), but I'll be keeping an eye out.

What I don't understand is the mass desire for ninty to do this with Pokemon Wouldn't you be able to have more various types of game play if you had Access to all of nintendo's flagship mascots with a few weird surprises thrown in?

are you saying you want Nintendo to do this with Smash Bros?

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

no not with smash. a whole new ip just utilizing various nintendo characters. so you can have rpg/platforming/simulation/rts/racing ect in one open world title. think of how good disney infinity would be if nintendo made it. thats what im talking about. away to utilise all their ip's within reason in an ever changing growing lanscape.

^^ I think the whole Pokémon idea would be to keep appealing to the "Gotta catch 'em all" mentality that would make kids (and others) want to collect all the little figures

correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there like 700 pokemon? They won't even make a third of them. I still feel it's the wrong way to go. It would be a wasted opertunitu IMO

Would have preferred Star Wars to have been added to Disney Infinity.
Never mind, a game like this would mostly include the annoying characters anyway.

Gotta save something for 3.0

I'm pretty pumped for the DI Marvel reveals because I'm a huge nerd and maybe I can have Spidey beat up Aladdin villains in the Toy Box or something. Hopefully the two universes aren't separated or anything stupid like that.

Smash Bros is already halfway there with the figurine thing — all the characters are supposed to be toys. Not that I want to spend $12 for each Smash fighter, but it wouldn't exactly be a conceptual stretch of the franchise.

Man, about time we're getting some Skylanders 4 news. Kudos to the OP for breaking the news to me about Wed, Can't wait to see if the Swapforce will be hitting the road in some vehicles, well the top half of them anyway . The world needs more tank battles. And Wii U needs some games. I bought the 1st 2 on PS3 and Swapforce on Wii U to give the Gamepad some use, hope it continues.

Pokemon Rumble U only had 5 or 6 toys, they sucked, as did the game. Pokepark 3 should be their toy game. The 1st game you played as Pickachu, the 2nd added the B&W starters. The 3rd could add as few or many Pokemon as they wanted, preferably in 2 player like Skylanders though 4 would be even better like "Go Vacation". Pokepark 2 had a similar world feel to Skylanders, much more so than the main Pokemon games, 719, even 150, would be a lot to catch, though SKylanders must be close to 100 now. SSB needs to be kept toy free for the older gamers who fight in tournaments adding toys would kill it. Though ld be more than ok if Subspace Emissary got spun off solo like someone above said. But Pokemon is the obvious choice.

In talks of what Nintendo has planned for their "NFC game", I'm honestly stumped at what they could do.

Pokemon is such an obvious choice and I'm sure many would love it. But what the game would be about and how it plays would be the main question.

A new IP would certainly be interesting. And even if it's new IP that no one's ever seen, they could still be successful. Skylanders consists almost entirely out of brand new never before seen characters and they're doing incredibly well.

But using all their IPs honestly seems like the best choice to me. Aside from Disney, Nintendo practically owns most of the world's most beloved and well known characters and IP. It'd be like collecting Smash Bros. trophies in real life! Imagine that!

Everyone would buy them. I know I would...

Now THAT would be interesting! Imagine collecting little toy space soldiers and using them to fight aliens? That'd be pretty cool!
