With no EA and Konami support the Wii U is gonna be missing the big sport franchises like FIFA, Madden and Pro Evo so what's the chance of Ninty releasing non-Mario sports games to plug this hole?

edit
One of the 1st retro games (that was canned) was a US football game and Sega could dust off Virtual Strikers.

Man, I loved the Mario sports games on the 'cube. Power Tennis, Superstar Baseball, Strikers, Toadstool Tour, and of course Double Dash, that's where it was at. I had more fun with those than any EA Sports game, to be honest.

I don't think it's a sealed deal that Konami is done with the Wii U yet though. They're just biding their time, waiting to see if the install base grows. Konami and Nintendo go way back, and they're not going to ditch them after one bad console.

I'd love to see some Mario Sports game on Wii U. Maybe they can make a new one, Mario Hockey haha....no seriously my friend is a hockey nut so he'd love it. They are semi trying with Wii Sports Club HD, but that only has so many sports to choose from. I wouldn't be against any of it, especially since I've never cared about EA sports games anyway. Come back Techmo Bowl!

Nintendo could make another Play Action Football, maybe make an All Nintendo team in it.

Why no konami support?

They should really get PES, or make their own sports division. Have sports games will go a long way to sell this console in EU and the US.

Remember Nintendo Pennant Chase Baseball?

The NBA Courtside and Ken Griffey JR. Baseball were solid, slightly arcade entries in the sports genre in their day. Nintendo has history here. Considering their love of baseball and the current complete lack of baseball games in the marketplace, I would not be surprised to see them make another attempt. Actually Wii Sports baseball felt pretty good for what it is, if they want to incorporate motion controls, that could be legit. Though, I'd love to see a new arcade baseball game in the vein of Baseball Stars 2.

Super Mario Slappers (Hockey) by Next Level is something I've been coveting for years. Even Mario football could be cool if they go the arcade route (in which there are few contenders since the NFL Blitz days).

Either way, it's a shame that the potential the Wii U has for innovating sports games is unlikely to be realized.

NFL Blitz was one of the few Football games I've ever liked. That game was awesome on N64. I am never really a fan of sports games, but Mario strikers curved my opinion a bit. I'd definitely like to see some more in the same vein as that. Hockey for sure.
