Honestly lets face it....nintendo development teams are becoming old and stale. They need new fresh people to create more new games like splatoon and to let new people and teams experiment with already existing IPs like earthbound.

Edit: Also they keep trying bring back the casuals and its not working. They need to make their games more to their core nintendo fan base.

If anyone other than Itoi makes an Earthbound game I'm not sure I'd be happy and I disagree with Ninty should be focusing on Ninty fans, keep them happy sure but they need to expand the audience like with Splatoon.

Definitely agree. Some games should be left to their creators. If Itoi ever decides to make another Mother, that's fine, I also think it's fine if he doesn't. I think it's the same reason why I thought Okami was better off without an unnecessary sequel.

I think earthbound was a bad example, I should of said Mario, F-zero or zelda

I agree partially. Console prices have progressed to the point where casual gamers would rather just buy games on steam. They're gone and they aren't coming back. They need to make games that are innovative but retain popular features from older games. They need third party support to draw in semi-casuals who like Nintendo's exclusives but won't pass up the good version (not ported months later and done lazily) of Call of Duty or Assasin's Creed to get them.

It depends on the casual gamer you are talking about. The casual gamers who played NSMB alone on the Wii, or delved into Brain Age on DS? Yeah there's gone. But the families who played NSMB, Wii Party, and Just Dance? They aren't going anywhere until there is another casual local multiplayer device.

It just seems like such an obvious decision to make. Spend the time and money to set up western teams to develop for the markets they're running. Done right, there would be far more options, far less droughts, and far more people happy with Nintendo's overall output.
Even where the VC is concerned, it would have a far more positive effect as more time could be spent getting them released.

Yeah, this seems like a very common sense solution to the problem with western appeal, expand Nintendo's western branches so they can work on games that appeal to Western gamers. Maybe something like this:

NA:
EAD America Group 1
EAD America Group 2
EAD America Group 3
Retro Studios
Next Level Games

EU:
EAD Europe Group 1
EAD Europe Group 2
maybe one or two more developers

This would open them up to giving IPs like Metroid and F-Zero more attention as well as open them up to new IPs with more Western appeal as well as revivals of old IPs like Duck Hunt, StarTropics, and the like.

True, but Nintendo would actually have to market the device as family-friendly like they did with the Wii to get them to buy the console. They totally blew it this time around.

What I dont understand was that they saw what a huge success new leaf was....so they decided to take a potentially big seller for the wii u(Animal crossing U) and turn it into a board game? Who at nintendo decided that this was a good idea?

I think if nintendo needs to start listening to the core nintendo fan, needs to listen to NOE and NOA and also watch where the console gaming industry as a whole is moving and adapt to that in their own weird way.

Exactly. Nintendo has taken a few beloved series and tried to make them unique, in the process ruining the game, because they DIDN'T listen to fans. They sometimes make games that, frankly, most people don't really want. Take the latest Donkey Kong game. Was it good and well received critically? Yes! But Nintendo had already made another platformer, really several platformers in the form of New Super Mario Bros Wii, Wii U, and 2. Like 25% of the games on the eshop are platformers. Was it a good game? Yes? Did we really need ANOTHER platformer so soon after the New Super Bros? No! How many games built around jumping on platforms can a person play before they get sick of the entire genre? Would you have taken another platformer over the possibility of a Metroid game on the Wii U?

Or they wanted to make different game using amiibo and thought being a board game would be cool idea...
Or Nintendo needed games and asked them to crank something out for this year, which makes sense given Happy Home Designer as well.
Even then, we have no idea if this really came at the cost of an actual Animal Crossing U and assuming it did is exactly why I recommend getting off the internet until you get passed your short sighted paranoia.

I didnt mean that they turned animal crossing U into a board game I mean they are using resources for the board game when it could of went to an animal crossing for the wii U. Sorry I should of been clearer.

Also they already have mario party 10 which uses amiibo and if they honestly wanted a board game for amiibo then it should of been a board game that spanned all nintendo properties rather then just animal crossing so it gives people more of a reason to collect them all.

Oh, no no. My annoyed attitude wasn't aimed at you, it was aimed at the other dude (who I'm recommending putting on your mental ignore list, as I'm tired of see him myself already).
But like I said before: its clear amiibo festival and Happy Home Designer are filler games made to fill in gaps for Nintendo's release schedule this year. The assets look reused from New Leaf, and most likely this game was probably started about maybe a year to a year and a half ago. Same to Federation Force, for all we know that could of been the only "Metroid" thing they were thinking of making/green lighting for a while.
Still, sorry if offended you.

This could work. It would also give them far greater capacity to develop games. They could also cut loose some dead weight 3rd party partners like Arzest and Paon.

Alternatively, they could buy a large western developer like Insomniac Games. Having a 200+ man team in the US could be really useful
