I'm aiming to look for a small TV (for my room, also don't have that much spending money, lol), but I kinda figured since the Wii U supports the full 1080 I'd go for that. Seems like a lot of the TVs with the sizes I'm aiming for (early 20s, like 22 - 24 or something) only have 720p.

Anyways, that being said...am I REALLY going to notice a difference in visuals if I just went with 720p? Would you be like "Screw this, just go with a 720p."? xD
I just wanna make sure my games would look crisp and clear, but I don't really have anything here to help me compare.

the picture's just gonna be bigger in size when you play in 1080p - if you want to play in 1080p, I say get a larger TV that supports it. I think it still looks great in 720p

Dude, 1080p would be useless at that size. Just get a 20-something 720p LED or LCD, unless the 1080p models offer better picture quality and more picture controls resolution aside. Stick wih the 60hz models since they deliver less lag than the 120hz capable sets.

Honestly I think I'm thinking of something else and getting it mixed up, I'm thinking of games that are originally at a lower resolution win't look crisp and clear on a 1080p TV. (like the Wii games) Thinking it was the same for 1080 games on a 720 TV for some reason...lol.

Well, 720p LCD's have a resolution of 1366x768p(around that) so there would be scaling going on to crunch in a native 1280x720p Wii U game. Yet a 1080p display would beable to display 1280x720p properly. Still, at that size i don't think you'd beable to tell the difference. Not too sure on this one. I guess it's just better to play it safe and lean towards a 1080p set since you'd be getting a native resolution.

I have read that if you are getting 32" or less, 720p is fine. If you are going 50" or greater, you would want to look at 1080p for sure. If you're wondering though, there are a few brands (maybe one, just at several retailers?) that is a 24" 1080p model. It was at Best Buy I think...

I can tell the difference between 1080p and 720p on any size display pretty much. You should just go for 1080p if you can. You can get a 24" 3D Playstation display(240hz) for $200 including tax, which is the best deal in that price range, but if you need RCA or coaxial don't get it. It really depends on your budget, and whether you can save for a little longer to get a better one. Once you have a bigger TV, you'll be able to make room for it. Trust me.

It's basically going to sit next to my monitor since I like to multitask a lot while playing video games, besides we already have a big TV in the living room anyways. And I think an even bigger one once we move, so, yeah.

Many console games today only go up to 720p anyway, so it's not a big deal.

For sure, just putting in my 2¢. I would for sure get a 1080p one though. I got the 3D PS Display, then returned it because it was kinda small, and used the refund to buy a 39" 1080p 60hz Insignia. I almost even returned that to get a better refresh rate and 3D, but decided against it, because I've literally just been returning things constantly after I get more cash to upgrade my gadgets week to week, alot being sales. I got sick of it, and just stuck with what I have for now. Also, you can upgrade your TV to a 3D one using a converter box for $90, instead of paying an extra $200 for it built in, plus you can carry it around to convert any HDTV. Just an option for easy upgrade if they start making 3D games for Wii U.

If it's a TV:
< 32" : 720p is good enough
32" to 50" : 1080p
> 50" : owhen 4k hits 4k will be better

For a monitor/tablet:
< 5" : 480p is good enough
< 13" : 720p is good enough
13" to 24" : 1080p is ideal
> 24" : the "2.5k" level resolutions are a better bet
> 30" : when 4k is a thing....

I'm starting to give up on gadgets altogether kinda. Even in the 4K displays. It's better than what we have now for sure, but I could instantly come up with ideas to make it better, and it's not even out yet. I honestly expected a better 3D effect, built in sound, and connectivity in upcoming TVs. If they made a glasses free display with 10 layers of screens for better 3D, better speakers and included wireless speakers for surround, OLED and bluetooth, airplay, apps, etc. Maybe I'm just expecting too much from these things. My idea of a PERFECT TV would probably cost $200,000, but they're constantly improving gear, and then I think past that again.

There's another alternative if you only want it for the Wii U. I changed my monitor when I bought the Wii U. My new one is 24" widescreen, 1080p, with built in speakers and dual HDMI input. When I want to switch to the console I just press a button on the front of the monitor. Samsung S23B550VS

Anyways kinda figured it would be annoying to switch between the two screens constantly.

I use a 1080p Vizio for my Console Gaming, and it's really good. However, I have no idea how much it costs.It isn't huge, but I think you're looking for something smaller.

720p might end up getting a bit of the outside edges cropped off. mine does, I guess some sets will have a way to make it resize but not all of them. go into settings for miiverse and eshop and you can see the sizing option this is the reason for it. theres no option to do the same for games_bugs me the most for zombiu about 3/4 or one inch of my peripheral isn't there, I like to use it as an excuse for dying alot-something to blame.

Bumping this instead of making another new thread. Found a good TV online, how does refresh rates work exactly? Like, does the Wii U support 120hz? Or does it not really matter? Maybe I'm thinking of something else, but figured I'll double check to make sure...like if it'll work or whatever. xD

Higher refresh rates on TVs are mostly just used for displaying 3D content. If you hook a PC upto it you should be able to get that running at 120Hz but I'm fairly sure the Wii U won't run at 120Hz. However the Wii U does support 3D and the TV will allow it to run at 60Hz. What you should be more worried about with the TV are things like motion blur, contrast ratio, colour reproduction and input lag. Things which they can't put on a spec sheet and you'll have to find out by physically going to the shop and checking it out in person.... or trusting someone on the internet on it....

Oh and don't buy into the TVs claiming they can do 200Hz, 600Hz and other such things. Those specs aren't for the speed of the panel itself but are instead about image processing. Something that you will turn off when playing a game anyway to reduce input lag and, arguably, something that doesn't do much to improve visual performance much anyway. It's just a way to distract people who don't know what they're doing with some slippery spec quoting.

Never really had problems with input lag, so I should be fine there, anyways guess I'll post a link to the TV I was looking at on Amazon.

Ya, I've heard some displays claim 120 or higher hz, but thats just proccessing, and not actual hardware. I have a 39" 60hz insignia, and it will do everything I want/need it to. I do wish I could have the best gadgetry, but 4k coming out will automatically make people ocd out and go crazy they don't have the newest/best stuff available. I kinda think games look weird at higher rates honestly sometimes. I don't have money, and might have to eventually ghetto rig my s***, but if Wii U starts supporting 3D, I'm definately getting a 3D converter box that uses passive lenses to play in 3D.
