I've just bought my Pikmin 3 eShop key via online retailer and I can't wait to play it. However problem is
I don't have Nunchuk it's dead. Can I play with gamepad JUST FINE?

Yes it's fine infact I haven't played with any of the other control options. Aiming Pikmin with the analogue stick is a bit clunky compared to the WiiMote controls as I remember them but the GamePad screen more than makes up for it. Having the map there which allows you to move "commanders" (or whatever you call them) is incredibly handy.

In a nutshell yes and arguably it's better than the WiiMote controls in some ways.

I have only been using the gamepad and haven't bothered yet with the wii mote. I can see where the pointer might be better than stick but like said above its nice to have the map there and camera control

I recommend the Wii remote+ and nunchuck controls. I just keep the GamePad on my lap and glance over at the map occasionally to find lost Pikmin or command the characters.

You can play with the GamePad, but I think the controls aren't as good. You can throw Pikmin in any direction with the Wii remote, but you have to be facing where you're throwing with the analog sticks.

One of the shoulder buttons lets you take control of the pointer without moving the character.

I recommend the Gamepad because it brings the awesomeness

Ya, but you can't move while you're doing that, which the Wii remote control scheme allows you to do.

WiiMote for me with the game pad next to me, Full map easy access to go-there commands on game pad and so much easier to send/select Pikmin with the pointer.
Also although I knew for off-tv play I could use the Wiimote I assumed I would need to be in-front of the WiiU/Sensor Bar but thats not the case. Even in a totally different room than where my WiiU is the WiiMote works when playing on the Gamepad. Obviously can't have full view of the map at all times but press down on the cross-pad and the game pauses and switches to map view.

Games make a great console, not technical specs.

Why is this not RTS touch screen bliss as promised I can only guess.

It is a bit hard to target precisely with just the gamepad, especially some of the flying enemies. I wish I could use the right stick to move the targeting, but then the camera wouldn't have a stick.

Yeah...I'm used to it mainly because I've played the GCN version of Pikmin 2 all the time. With the Wii Remote you mainly get better aiming, I don't like it as much. 9mainly because of one little event of accidentally dismissing all of my Pikmin right at 0 on the countdown, lol

I've played the GCN and Wii version of the first two Pikmin games, and I didn't really prefer one over the other. But I definitely prefer Wii remote and nunchuck over pro controller/gamepad in Pikmin 3...the gamepad/pro controller schemes don't feel the same as the Gamecube ones, while the Wii remote is pretty similar. I miss having camera zoom/bird's eye view controls though
