That's not as secure, though. EDIT: Or accessible as @MorphTorok pointed out. Typing the 3DS friend code into the Wii U, then the NNID into the 3DS sounds alot more legit.
Once you lock into an account, you're trapped for certain ammount of time, just like Xbox 360.

My bro has an account on my Wii U, and you can still link to his account with a 3DS, but it only accesses his purchases, even though he can play the games I bought on my Wii U with his account.

Just speculation, but I know it will more likely work the way I described.

Friend codes are required, though. The friend code could end up being "replaced", but it will always be there.
If you type in my NNID, it will connect you to all my devices using that ID, but the ID will always be translated by a friend code for 3DS.
In otherwords, my NNID will link you to my friend code, but you never have to mess with that. That's still what's going on inside the machine regardless of whether you see it or not.
The NNID being usable on only one system at a time would destroy local multiplayer if that becomes an opton as well, BTW.

So technically, ya, the friend codes would disappear where it matters, but that's still how the 3DS recognizes communication data.

Besides the NNID being usable on one device at a time, I think you got it right.

Oh. It will probably be a 1-2 3DS limit, then 1 Wii U limit(meaning only 1).
The reason I say this, is because they could technically make it so that you can bring your ext. HDD to whatever Wii U you want, then just sign into your NNID to activate use of the ext. HDD.
You would still have to carry around a memory device, but it gives their servers a break.
I'd say any 3DS in range can still do download play, though, which doesn't require an account at all.

EDIT: I'm kinda skeptical on how many 3DS. I'm sure there will be 4 player local between Wii U and 3DS, but that's a ton of consoles to have laying around(if you have that many), with the account roaming free to boot.

There has to be a limit.

EDIT2: It could just be 1 3DS and 1 Wii U per account, because that makes one set of consoles. The PS3 has a 2 system limit, too.

LastEDIT: Also, Nintendo is the only one with free console online now, so that contributes.

They'll figure it out.
