From the press release, it looks like this update is only for US and Canada this time.

Yikes. Looks like they should have held off even longer until they could provide a better service. I have Tivo and Netflix, so the fact that those two features have been postponed really suck. Because I watch television using Tivo and because Nintendo TVii doesn't interact with Tivo at all right now, the feature is pretty much worthless.

If it was only a case of Tivo and Netflix being delayed, then it wouldn't be so bad. The problem is that the one feature I could use now, Amazon, is so terrible that I couldn't imagine anybody ever using it. Maybe I was doing it wrong, but basically there was no was I could see to enter my Amazon Prime account details into Nintendo TVii, so that meant anything it pulled up for Amazon would only show me the rent/buy options and wouldn't let me know whether or not it was even free to stream. That makes it 100% worthless at that point since it can't pull it what I can or cannot watch for free from Amazon. It gets even worse than that though. I clicked on one of the movies that I do know is streaming free for Prime members and what did Nintendo TVii do? It closed itself to launch the Amazon Instant Video app! Wow... so this is what we waited for? Nintendo TVii basically just searches the different services (incompletely in the case of Amazon, the only one I can use right now) and then when you want to interact with it, it has to open a different app from there? I thought the whole point was that Nintendo TVii was going to provide a central, unified experience.

I do have hope that once the Tivo integration is in there that the television viewing experience will at least be okay. Though the significant lag time to load and the seemingly unresponsive menus sure make it hard to want to put down a remote for the game pad. I'm pretty sure Netflix will suck since my guess is that it will behave identical to Amazon where it has to close Nintendo TVii and open the Netflix app. It shouldn't be nearly as bad as Amazon since all shows are free on Netflix so you don't have to worry about the Nintendo TVii search providing you inadequate information.

Pretty much. You add shows and movies to your favourites...and TVii shows you where you can watch them amongst the various services available to you. There is no way Amazon, Netflix, Hula etc.. would all allow their full experience (menu system, searching, etc...) to be built directly into a shared app like TVii.

And is it possible that the movies that only showed you rent/buy options are NOT movies available for free stream in the first place? Or are you saying you looked up movies you know for a fact are available to free stream and they were not listed as such?

With regards to the question about the free streaming, I did make sure I looked up specific movies that were available for free streaming for Amazon Prime members and those movies did not show any sort of indication of them being free to stream in the TVii application... they only said rent/buy. This makes the feature 100% worthless for Amazon Prime users looking for an integrated system for looking up movies to stream for free... which is one of the main purposes of Nintendo TVii.

As of right now, the only reason to use Nintendo TVii is for live viewing of television, and in which case, a normal universal remote works way better since it can actually change inputes on my receiver, adjust volume, and can control Tivo. We'll see once the Tivo integration is added whether or not Nintendo TVii even makes sense for non streaming users because right now it definitely sucks for any sort of streaming.
