Personally I think they should drop Mario Party. They can't change the formula too much or people complain, but the current formula they have has gotten to be incredibly boring.
Oh yeah, traditional boards need to return. The new point a to point b ones are nice, but they don't compare to the ones of the first games.
Something I always loved from the first one was that each board had a unique and special epilogue instead of simply declaring a player the winner, I wonder why that never returned.
The problem I think is that Nintendo changed the series a bit too much, I kinda do want them to do something different with the series. But I played Island Tour and there's like...only 2 or so board out of all of them that I like. That...rocket board?...It like ended in 5 minutes...no minigames...WTF? (ok, one minigame happened, lol)

Keep it PG-13-ish.
Yea I don't think Mario Party need an originality since Mario Party Island Tour. That game is a lot different from normal Mario Party games. Trust me on that. I agreed with Mizore that Nintendo tend to think that having different things in games are good. I mean look at Paper Mario for 3DS.
@Mizore: I actually like the card one, rocket one, and an bullet bill one so far. I thought Bowser board might be fun for multiplayer but I haven't try it yet though.
PS: You can't hog all the girls buddy! At least give me Eureka! Renton or you don't deserve her!
I haven't gotten a new Mario Party game since... I think 2 or 3. It's been a long time. Maybe if the game returned to its roots and had some innovative 3 vs 1 gamepad minigames I'd be interested.

The card and item attacking one were my favorites, with Bowser's in 3rd, also, nevah! Eureka is my first anime girlfriend. x3

@Mizore: Probably the same for me unless I can't remember if I have an crush on Misty or Nurse Joy from Pokemon TV shows but I don't think so.
I really like the card and bowser too as you know already. I never tried Bowser in multiplayer and I can see that board game as fun. I think the card game going be very boring in multiplayer but I haven't try it out yet in multiplayer though. (I starting to think going first in card game going win anyway unless somebody else got first in SPECIAL mini game. So… you could say it is rigged! )
Something I didn't like about Island Tour is that the game feels more like a preinstalled app than a full price retail game.
There are no profiles, the game doesn't remember who you are. Every time you access the game and enter any mode you read the same introduction over and over. It could be your 75th time playing on that board or buying a bubble, but you will still be forced yo read the same tutorial you read the first time and every other time after that.
The so called Party Islands are ittle more than a bunch of soulless colored touch buttons and menus with a note reminding you that you should press the home button to stop playing.
The so-precious bubbles and mementos only unlock songs. Even the DS game had animated statues and a bios.
It was just pretty uninspired outside of the minigames and the boards.
@Moorpheel: Well I found one video in an bubble so far. but yea it is lacking in loop board games in generally. The mini games are not too bad except its doesn't have any 2vs2 or 1vs3 mini games at all. Yea the tutorial is kinda annoying but its make sense in multiplayer though but who can buy bubbles in multiplayer so your point is still valid.
PS: Almost all current and future 3DS and Wii U games telling you to stop playing if you are tired or playing it too long… -_- It is an Nintendo thing and it is in trend too.
They should definitely return to something resembling the original formula. The mini-games are doing just fine, but the board game itself really just needs new maps to remain interesting. Maybe bring back the Mini-game Rollercoaster and stuff they had in the first two games. Make the game more competitive, with more ways to screw your friends while possibly making rewards seem more... rewarding? There's just so much that they never should've changed about the game, in the first place. I don't know if they CAN change it back, anymore.
