Well how unwritten could they be if there are already two books about them?

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

If this game is well-implemented on the Wii U (the Gamepad is perfect for point-and-click adventures), this is a must-buy for me. I like the art style more than the new King's Quest adaption.

20-25 hours of gameplay, favourable reviews on the PC version and most of the soundtrack recorded with a live orchestra. Nice!

Bought this and played a few hours of it. It's a really fun fairy tale point-and-click adventure, with so many funny references to current culture (Mario, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Monsters Inc, Game of Thrones, and much much more). The graphics is really gorgeous, the music fantastic, and the voice acting is really good.

However the UI is traditional console button UI, with no extra Gamepad features except off-TV play. Also, there's a sound glitch, where the sound occasionally mutes for a few seconds.

I've sunk about 20 hours into the game; there are some genuinely funny moments but unfortunately it's not without bugs. The audio often cuts out or changes volume, while the controls are a bit sluggish and a little fiddly. The lack of touchscreen support is disappointing given the nature of the game.

It's froze on occasion and a few times I've had conversations about needing items I already held in my possession, which was a little confusing. The biggest glitch I've encountered was being unable to save the game, forcing me to either continue and hope it would rectify itself, or give up entirely. I persevered and about 7 hours later it finally allowed me to save. @jariw you mentioned Mario and Harry Potter so I think you'll be coming up to that point soon; it will be interesting to see if you also encounter this glitch.

The graphics, music and voice acting are really good but the overall vibe can seem a bit disjointed. The puzzles are mostly logical but sometimes the game will allow you to solve them before you (or the character) know why or what they are for, which can slightly ruin the immersion. The story is quite political with some lengthy and rather serious dialogue which somehow doesn't sit with the comical moments very well. It's almost as if the game is unsure if it wants to be serious or not, resulting in a slight lack of cohesion.

Despite my criticisms, and glitches aside, for only £15 I'm enjoying it.

Not wanting to spoil the party, but the Steam version of this can currently be obtained for £3.69 (even less with a discount code) from here:

Given the glitches mentioned above, and the lack of Wii U specific features, just thought people would appreciate knowing.

There is a game-breaking bug in the game: you can't save after you reach a certain point in the story; even auto-save stops working. Nordic Games you gotta patch this!

It's on sale right now on the eShop for only $5. Is the save glitch still present? That would be a killer, even at that price.

As far as I know they never fixed the bug.

Sorry to revive this, but I haven't found an answer anywhere online. I started playing this recently, and have come to the place where it won't let me save. Can anyone answer: exactly when does it let you start saving again? I tried to finish the 3 cleaning tasks that Wilbur is given thinking when I was done with Wilbur it would let me save, but gave up and went to bed after finding the library with only the sweeping left. I haven't found an answer anywhere, but @Monkey_Balls saying he had to play for 7 hours makes me think it is much farther along than that, and I definitely never have 7 straight hours to play.

@Xyphon22
I never made it to a point where I could save again, but I only played like 2 hours after that. The fact they never patched this says a lot about what they think of their customers.

Yeah, one would think this would have been a fairly easy patch (says the person with absolutely no coding or game-making experience), so it's sad that it is still there. But I like it a lot and I would really like to keep playing it. I will have to see the next time I try how long it has been since it saved and how quickly I can get back to my spot since I now know what I am doing.

@Xyphon22 There was a patch in December 2016 which supposedly fixed the save glitch - I haven't downloaded/tested it yet (having already completed the game prior to the update), but will try it out later if I have time. It'll mean playing through again so be patient waiting for my test results, ha.

In case the patch doesn't work... I made notes while playing which might be useful. The save glitch happened sporadically throughout the game and not always at the same places (but roughly so). I'll try to be vague to avoid spoilers - you should know when you get to the relevant part...

-Chapter 1: The first time I encountered the glitch - I couldn't save when attempting to enter the library (roughly where you seem to be now) or throughout the rest of this chapter.
-Chapter 2: I was finally able to save about 7 hours after the initial glitch. You play as another character then it switches back to Wilbur. Near the end of the chapter (after building the Golem) I was able to save and it was fine throughout the remainder of it.
-Chapter 3: The save glitch happened at several points in this chapter. Saving the game was fine until three characters needed to use a seesaw together. After that I couldn't save again until I was in control of a different character attempting to help a prisoner. It was then fine until I entered the library (with another different character): I was unable to save for the remainder of the chapter. On each occasion the time between being able to save was a few hours.
-Chapter 4: I was able to save at the beginning but it glitched as soon as I left the first area/room, and I couldn't save for the rest of the chapter. Note: Manually save before leaving the first room; if you rely on auto-save, you'll be taken back to chapter 3 when you reload (that's a tip in general: always use the manual save). I played this chapter in one go, which took about 8 hours, so didn't test the glitch too much (but I couldn't save the game in all that time).
-Chapter 5: The save glitch seems to rectify itself from this point on. I was able to save throughout this chapter and it was fine for the rest of the game.

According to my Wii U log details, I played this game for about 70 hours in total. I'd guess about 20/25 hours were used testing the save glitch. It doesn't always happen exactly where I stated, but roughly at those points of the game. Don't rely on auto-save! I noticed that the game can throw you back several hours when using it; manually save every ten minutes or so. There were two occasions where I had to play for roughly 7 hours before the save glitch rectified itself (between chapters 1 and 2, and the whole of chapter 4); however, I wasn't permanently glued to the game in that time, and I didn't test chapter 4 (I wanted to get to the end by that stage so just soldiered on while taking breaks).

I'll download the update and do some more testing (it'll give me a break from Zelda ). TBoUT2 is a great game - it's a shame the glitch ruins the experience and can turn it into a chore to play.

@Monkey_Balls Thanks. I played last night, so obviously the patch did not fix the glitch. But man, I was under the impression that the glitch was only in the one spot, not throughout the game. I really want to play this, but I just never have that many hours in a row to play to plow through before I can save again. I'll try again sometime soon and see what happens.

Hey, sorry to revive this thread again, but I recently got Thimbleweed Park and Violett on Switch and made me think of this game so I tried it again last night. I thought the patch save glitch might have been fixed because when I quit and replayed, I started where I quit. But when I actually got all the way out of the game and turned it back on, I was still back where I originally started, so obviously the glitch is still there. My question is, is there a way to tell when it actually starts saving again? My Wii U gets played so little now that we have a Switch that I think I can probably get away with just leaving it on for a couple of days until I get past the glitch, but right now it still tells me it's saving even though it's actually not, so how do I tell when the glitch is over and it actually does start saving again? I don't want to have to rely on the spot @Monkey_Balls mentioned because he also said it's not always exactly the same. Thanks if anyone actually still cares and has an answer.

@Xyphon22
I don't know what the exact spot is but it's HOURS after the spot where it stops saving.

kreen

Xyphon22

@kreen Yeah, so I've heard. I just don't want to think I'm safe to finally turn it off (which I will want to do because it will also mean the system has been on non-stop for days), just to find out the next time I play that I have just lost multiple hours of my game (and my life). It's just annoying because even now the "saving" icon and word shows up in the bottom-left corner all the time, so I'm not sure how to tell when it's actually true.

@Xyphon22 You'll know the glitch is over when you are able to manually save the game (in the pause menu) - the save option can't be selected when the glitch occurs. Unfortunately, all you can do is keep playing and checking the menu; obviously, as soon as you are able to select it again, save often.

I mentioned that the glitch didn't always occur exactly in the same spots, but it happened roughly at those spots (10-20 minutes either way) so persevere if you can. You should be safe to switch off the console after a manual save (I never had any problems with that). Ignore the auto-save; it's mostly useless.

Xyphon22

@Monkey_Balls But it does let me manually save from the menu. I have played for a little bit a couple of times the past couple of days for fun and to learn what to do so when I make my go of it I can at least do the first part faster, and I manually save every time, but I'm still always back in the schoolmaster's office every time I restart. I guess I'll just have to go with your timeline above of when it starts working again and hope it actually does. Thanks for the help, though.

@Xyphon22 Hm, that's strange as I can't recall noticing that before. I'm wondering if the patch/update merely fixed the save option in the menu (allowing it to be selected) but not the function itself; I also wonder if my glitch timeline is still valid post-patch (I haven't played it for a while so can't remember). I'd be tempted to delete the update data and play without it - at least then you'll know my timeline should be valid (I tested it many times with the same/similar results) - but as you've already sunk many hours into the game, restarting from scratch might not be ideal. Good luck; let us know how you get on with it.
