Topic: Is the GC controller the best choice for Super Smash Bros 4?

I need a favor from you guys, I'm someone that's very skillful with games especially with nintendo games but I've never played Super Smash Bros that much but it's something I really want to be good at because I simply just like it. To my question, now that the official Gamecube Adapter for the Wii U is back in stock, I wonder if it's worth getting it + an original GC controller for the Smash? I've never played with a GC controller but it's something I can adapt to because I am a fast learner. The thing I don't know right now, is experience and I want to ask you guys, is it really that big of a deal to use a GC controller for Smash? Another thing I'm curious about are these Wii U Fight Pad controllers that has the same support as a Wii Classic Controller, it's cheaper and lots of people say it's a good choice while others says the opposite. So here's my two questions; Should I get this adapter following with a GC controller? Second; For you guys that tried out this Wii U Fight Pad, how is that controller compared to the original GC controller? Because I can't seem to find a concrete answer to that. Please answer me guys, I'm dying for some advice, tip or knowledge, it's driving me crazy not to know the difference between them before buying one of them. Thanks in advance.

Personally, I think I play equally well with the 3DS, Wii U GamePad, Pro Controller, and GameCube Controller.

I think it's just a matter of preference.

If you really want one, get one.

Of course, I'm not a super-competitive Smash Bros. Player...

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

Alright, it seems clear to me that most people recommend the GC controller. But I'm still crazy about the idea that this Wii U Fight Pad isn't so famous among gamers, because it got great reviews but no one is comparing it with the original GC controller. Because if this Fight Pad is a better version of a GC controller, then I would rather choose that one because of the cheap price, and it supports other games that Wii Classic Pro supports, not to mention that I don't have to buy an adapter.

Again, if you really want a GameCube Controller, then get it and the adapter. If you don't, use whatever other methods you have at your disposal. I don't feel like I play any better with one controller over another (excluding JUST Wiimote and Wiimote+Nunchuck), so if you don't want to spend the extra cash, just become proficient with whatever control option you like the best.

Yes, I know. I've seen them at my local GameStop. Well, how about this? You get the Fight Pad and see how you like it. If you like it, great! If not, save up and grab the GameCube Adapter and Controller.

Though, I'm not one of the purists that only wants to play with a GameCube controller, so make what you will of that.

Really depends, I've been using a gcn controller for the last 3 games and just find it the most comfortable out of all the options but I'm sure someone new to the series would find the Pro controller the same.

How on earth did you get that from the quoted post? That's not what he said at all.

The GC controller is a great controller, but it's not some sort of holy grail. I have a bunch of GC controllers and the adapters myself, but they're only used for local multiplayer. If I'm playing solo I just stick to the gamepad, the difference is negligible.

I think the Pro Controller is the best, with the second being the 3DS but we can't use it as a controller online.

I ordered the Gamecube controller and the adapter because I thought it was the "god" of all controllers and I honestly hate it. I hate that the buttons are all placed in weird spots and they're all different shapes. I'm convinced the only reason people think it's so great is because of nostalgic reasons. I never owned a GameCube so I have no connection to it. I think it's awful.

No controller is the best for Smash (though Wiimote only is most definitely the worst). It all comes down to preference. I personally got used to 3DS and I did well with that, but now on Wii U I can play with either my Classic Controller Pro, or my Hori Battle Pad (similar to the Wii U PDP Fight Pad, except better as it's closer to the GCC imo) just fine. I can't play with the Wii U Gamepad, Wiimote or Wii+chuk for the life of me, though.

Since you're on the fence about the PDP Fight Pad, I just recommend to get a Hori Battle Pad instead. They don't have as much variety in their skins (only Mario, Luigi and Pikachu right now) but I own the Pikachu one since they released it a few months back and it's worked wonders for me with Smash and other games that support the Classic Controller.

Just find what controller you do best with and stick to that, you don't need to jump the Gamecube bandwagon, y'know.

It all comes down to preference. From top to bottom, these are my controllers of preference:
1. Wii U GamePad
2. GC controller/Pro Controller
3. Nintendo 3DS(I love it when I'm playing Smash 3DS, but I can't really handle 3 screens... X( )
4. Wiimote + Nunchuk
5.Wiimote - I used to be a Wiimote user, but now I can't even stand it...

God first.

I've used Classic Controller, Pro Controller and GameCube Controller (with Gameseek adapter which works pretty well, though isn't perfect). Of these I prefer the GameCube controller. I like the single Z button and the short throw of the C stick and I like the odd shapes; placement of the buttons.

I'm not a big fan of the original CC, but that's what's at my partner's place if I'm playing with her kids - they both use the remote alone which baffles me!

From what I've seen, people prefer the GC controller for two reasons, mainly:

1) Because they've been using it since Melee and it's very familiar and comfortable for them.
2) Because it's wired, resulting in a few microseconds of difference in input leg.

If you've never played Smash before, you'll most likely be just fine with the Pro Controller, or heck even the Gamepad.

Heck no. I believe that the Wii remote is the best choice.
